Blackwood railway station, Adelaide

Coromandel railway station is located on the Belair line. Situated in the Adelaide southern foothills suburb of Blackwood in South Australia, it is 17.2 kilometres from Adelaide station and 254 metres above sea level.

The Wittunga Botanic Garden is one of three Botanic Gardens in Adelaide, South Australia administered by the Botanic Gardens of South Australia, a State Government statutory authority; the other two are the Adelaide Botanic Garden located in the inner city's parklands, and the Mount Lofty Botanic Garden. The Wittunga garden is located on Shepherds Hill Road, Blackwood, on the western scarp of the Adelaide Hills. Beginning as a formal English garden at the home of Edwin Ashby in 1901, it changed over the years assisted by the efforts of Edwin's son, Arthur Keith Ashby to include South African and native Australian plants. Wittunga’s displays of these plants are especially spectacular in spring and include rich collections of Erica, Leucadendron, and Protea, complemented by displays of exotic and unusual bulbs and colourful annuals. The majority of the South African plants in the garden come from the Cape Province district which has a climate similar to that of Adelaide. The Australian collection features plants from the Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island, southern Western Australia and includes a fine collection of eucalypts. Meandering pathways through the Terrace and Sandplain Gardens give visitors the opportunity to see these distinctive and colourful collections. Many different birds can be seen attracted by the good supplies of nectar produced by the flowers of plants in the collection. In 1965 Edwin Ashby's son Keith donated the garden to the State. It was opened to the public in 1975 and is managed by the Botanic Gardens of South Australia. The garden features several small rotunda with seating, lawns suitable for picnicking and a trail of interpretive botanical signage. Connected by a spillway, two ponds in the park support a variety of native water birds and amphibians. Among the resident birds are Pacific black ducks, Australian wood ducks, Australasian grebes and Eurasian coots. A population of Murray River turtles can often be seen basking on the surface or on the ponds' muddy banks during warmer months.In 1980, it was listed on the now-defunct Register of the National Estate.

In 2009, demographer Bernard Salt of the Sunday Mail judged Glenalta to be Adelaide's most liveable suburb, citing its "affordability, access and ambience".

Hawthorndene is a south-eastern suburb located in the Foothills of the Mount Lofty Ranges of Adelaide, South Australia. The current 2019 median price for a 4-bedroom house in Hawthorndene is A$610,000 with an average of 78 days on market.Hawthorndene is home to the popular Apex Park with two tennis courts and a large family playground with Barbecue and toilet facilities. The park is next to "Joan's Pantry" Cafe & Restaurant which underwent major renovations in 2016. Joan's Pantry was first opened in 1920. It overlooks Hawthorndene Oval and has a Community Garden. Hawthorndene is also home to the Blackwood CFS South Australian Country Fire Service Station which is located on Gorse Ave, Hawthorndene.

Blackwood Forest Recreation Park is a protected area located about 12 kilometres (7.5 miles) south of the Adelaide city centre in the suburb of Hawthorndene. The recreation park was proclaimed under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972 in 2001 to retain land purchased in 1908 by the Government of South Australia for use as open space for recreational purposes. The recreation park is classified as an IUCN Category III protected area.

Blackwood High School is a co-educational secondary school located in Eden Hills, a south-eastern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia, offering an international baccalaureate middle-years programme with six nearby primary schools and diploma programme as the "Mitcham Hills College". It is also a special-interest high school that specialises in netball. Blackwood High also offers an enrichment program for identified "gifted" or "talented" students.Primary schools involved in the Mitcham Hills College are: Belair Primary Schools Bellevue Heights Primary School Blackwood Primary School Coromandel Valley Primary School Eden Hills Primary School Hawthorndene Primary SchoolThe school developed a resource with Sturt Police on "Teenage Parties" that has been adapted by Victorian private schools Scotch College and Toorak College. The Adelaide-based hip hop group Hilltop Hoods formed at Blackwood High School. The school also has a canteen, and is the site of the Blackwood Community Recreation Centre. As of 2022, the school has adopted a rule which bans students from using their mobile phone during school hours. This has been met with a lot of criticism from both students and parents as it makes it a lot harder to communicate with each other.
