Becontree

Parsloes is an electoral ward in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham.

Dagenham Heathway is a London Underground station serving the town of Dagenham in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, east London. It is on the District line between Becontree and Dagenham East. It is 7.7 kilometres (4.8 mi) along the line from the eastern terminus at Upminster and 26.5 kilometres (16.5 mi) to Earl's Court in central London where the line divides into numerous branches.

Dagenham () is a town in East London, England, within the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. Dagenham is centred 11.5 miles (18.5 km) east of Charing Cross. It was historically a rural parish in the Becontree Hundred of Essex, stretching from Hainault Forest in the north to the River Thames in the south. Dagenham remained mostly undeveloped until 1921, when the London County Council began construction of the large Becontree housing estate. The population significantly increased as people moved to the new housing in the early 20th century, with the parish of Dagenham becoming Dagenham Urban District in 1926 and the Municipal Borough of Dagenham in 1938. In 1965 Dagenham became part of Greater London when most of the historic parish become part of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. Dagenham was chosen as a location for industrial activity and is perhaps most famous for being the location of the Ford Dagenham motor car plant where the Ford sewing machinists strike of 1968 took place. Following the decline of industry, the southern part of Dagenham adjacent to the River Thames forms part of the London Riverside section of the Thames Gateway redevelopment area, with a new district of Beam Park under construction on the former site of Ford Dagenham.

The Sydney Russell School is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form located in Dagenham, London, England.

Parsloes Park is a 58 hectare public park in Dagenham in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. It is owned and managed by the borough council. A small area opposite the Wren Road entrance is managed for wildlife and designated as a Local Nature Reserve called Parsloes Park Squatts.The park derives its name from the Passelewe family, who owned the land in the thirteenth century. Paintings of the old manor house are held in the Valence House Museum. The land was acquired by the London County Council in 1923. The park was opened by MP Christopher Addison on 13 July 1935, marking the official completion of the Becontree estate. It has a children's play area, football pitches, tennis courts, a basketball court, a bowling green, and a lake. Parsloes Park Squatts is an area of rough acid grassland with a historic hedge.In the 1930s, the stretch of the Gores Brook which flowed through Parsloes Park was channelled through a pipe and buried. The brook now runs in culvert for approximately 430 meters under the eastern section of the Park. In 2022, Thames21 supported by the Mayor of London's Green and Resilient Spaces fund, announced plans to deculvert the stretch of Gores Brook running through the park.There are entrances in Parsloes Avenue, Gale Street and Wren Road. Parsloes is also a ward of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. The population of the ward at the 2011 Census was 9,839.

Alibon is an electoral ward in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. The ward was first used in the 1978 elections. It returns councillors to Barking and Dagenham London Borough Council. The boundaries of the ward were subject to revision in May 2002 and May 2022.

Valence House Museum is the only surviving of the five manor houses of Dagenham. The timber-framed museum building, partially surrounded by a moat, is situated in Valence Park off Becontree Avenue, in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, London, England. The building has been used as a manor house, a family home, a town hall, the headquarters of the library service and now houses a museum.

Parsloes Manor was a manor house in what is now known as Parsloes Park in Dagenham in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. In 1585, it was described as containing 10 messuages, a cottage, 10 gardens, 2 orchards, 100 acres of arable land, 20 acres of meadow, 50 of pasture 30 of wood and 40 rent.In 1619, William Fanshawe purchased the house and 91 acres attached to it for £1150 from Edward Osborne. The house was owned by the Fanshawe family for over 300 years.In 1819, it was enlarged, the walls were faced with new brick and the windows were replaced in a neo-gothic manner. The house fell into disrepair and was demolished in 1925.

Robert Clack School is a sixth form entry comprehensive school in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. Russell Taylor is the Headteacher of Robert Clack School. He is a former pupil of the school and joined the teaching staff in 2002. As the Senior Deputy Head from 2008 until August 2017, Taylor worked closely with the previous Head before being appointed as Headteacher in September 2017.

The Dagenham East rail crash was a railway accident on the London, Tilbury and Southend line of British Railways which occurred at Dagenham, United Kingdom. The accident took place at around 19:34 on 30 January 1958 and was a rear-end collision involving two late-running trains. Conditions at Dagenham East station were foggy at the time. The accident occurred after one train had passed a signal at danger due to a driver error in the thick fog. Ten passengers were killed in the accident and 89 injured. Four members of railway staff were also injured. The trains involved were the LMS 2-6-4 tank engine hauled 18:20 Fenchurch Street to Shoeburyness and the BR standard 2-6-4 tank hauled 18:35 Fenchurch Street to Thorpe Bay. Each train consisted of 11 coaches with approximately 500 passengers. The 18:35 train ploughed into the back of the 18:20 departure which demolished three carriages and derailed several others. The locomotive of the 18:35 train and leading carriage were derailed. Some wreckage blocked the adjacent London Underground line but did not cause any further accidents. One of the locomotives involved in this accident (80079) survives today at the Severn Valley Railway.

Dagenham was a borough constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament that elected one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. It was replaced at the 2010 general election largely by Dagenham and Rainham.
