Ports of Auckland

The Auckland Harbour Board was a public body that operated the ports of both Auckland and Onehunga from 1871 to 1988 and was dissolved in 1989. Its successor organisation is Ports of Auckland, which assumed the possessions and responsibilities of the Harbour Board.

Spark Arena (also known as Auckland City Arena, and formerly as Vector Arena) is a multipurpose arena in Auckland, New Zealand. The venue is located at Quay Park, Parnell, very close to Britomart Transport Centre and The Strand Station. The arena cost approximately $94 million, and of this sum ratepayers contributed $68 million for the facility to be managed by QPAM, the NZ operator, in New Zealand's first big public-private partnership. This runs for 40 years before ownership is transferred to the city. After delays due to construction-related issues, the arena's first concert was Rock Star Supernova on 24 March 2007.

The Auckland Railway Station is the former main railway station of Auckland. Opened in 1930 on Beach Road, it replaced the previous Queen Street railway terminus which is approximately where the current main railway station, Britomart is located. The 1930 station was the third station to serve as the rail terminus for Auckland, and remained the sole station serving the CBD until its closure in July 2003, when Britomart became the new terminus. Two platforms of the former station are once again operational as part of the renamed Strand Station. The remaining platforms are now a stabling area for AM Class electric multiple unit trains. The railway station building has been redeveloped as an apartment (formerly student accommodation) building known as Grand Central Apartments. The building has been disconnected from the platform area since the 1990s. The Strand Station has been disconnected from the stabling facility since the 2010s. All three areas are inaccessible from each other from a general public perspective.

Quay Park is a junction on the Auckland railway network in New Zealand. It normally links Britomart with Newmarket station for Western Line, Southern Line, and Onehunga Line services, which use a common set of tracks (the Newmarket Line) between Britomart and Newmarket. The Strand station has been closed to suburban train services since the opening of Britomart in 2003 and is now used as the terminus for the Auckland–Wellington Northern Explorer service via the North Island Main Trunk line and for chartered excursions. The junction can be switched in order to use The Strand as a backup for Britomart if required. The Wiri to Quay Park project announced in 2017 is expected to ease congestion on Auckland rail lines, improve rail freight access from the Port of Auckland to the Westfield yards and allow more frequent passenger and freight services. It is associated with the future third mainline. Funding for the project was announced in 2020. The project is to start in 2020 and be completed in 2024. The work at Quay Park will include adding two scissor crossings and separating freight from commuter tracks.

Point Britomart (Māori: Te Rerenga Ora Iti) was a headland in the Waitematā Harbour, in Auckland (Tāmaki Makaurau), New Zealand. Located between Commercial Bay and Official Bay, the point was later quarried away to produce fill for land reclamation in Mechanics Bay, and almost no physical trace remains at street level in what is today an area of the Auckland CBD and the Auckland waterfront.

The sinking of Rainbow Warrior, codenamed Opération Satanique, was a state terrorism bombing operation by the "action" branch of the French foreign intelligence agency, the Directorate-General for External Security (DGSE), carried out on 10 July 1985. During the operation, two operatives sank the flagship of the Greenpeace fleet, Rainbow Warrior, at the Port of Auckland on her way to a protest against a planned French nuclear test in Moruroa. Fernando Pereira, a photographer, drowned on the sinking ship. France initially denied responsibility, but two French agents were captured by New Zealand Police and charged with arson, conspiracy to commit arson, willful damage, and murder. The scandal resulted in the resignation of the French Defence Minister Charles Hernu, while the two agents pleaded guilty to manslaughter and were sentenced to ten years in prison. They spent a little over two years confined to the Polynesian island of Hao before being freed by the French government.Several figures, including then New Zealand Prime Minister David Lange, have referred to the bombing as an act of terrorism or state-sponsored terrorism, with scholars since describing the attack as an act of state terrorism.

Quay Street is the northernmost street in the Auckland CBD. The Auckland Ferry Terminal, which has ferries running to Devonport, Waiheke Island, and other places in Waitematā Harbour; the Hilton Auckland hotel; and Ports of Auckland are on the north side of the street. The Britomart Transport Centre, Queen Elizabeth Square and Grand Mercure Auckland hotel are on the south side.

Anzac Avenue is a street in Auckland, New Zealand's most populous city. It was constructed between 1914 and 1919 to link Beach Road to Symonds Street, and was named as a memorial to the troops who died in the Gallipoli campaign.

Auckland Law School is one of the eight faculties that make up the University of Auckland. The Faculty of Law is located at the City Campus, between Waterloo Quadrant and Eden Crescent. It is in close proximity to the Auckland High Court. In 2020, Auckland Law School ranked 50th in the world and best in New Zealand on QS World University Rankings. The University of Auckland’s Faculty of Law is the largest of its kind in New Zealand. It boasts experts in a variety of fields, including commercial, public, human rights and environmental law.

The Auckland High Court, also known as the Tāmaki Makaurau High Court, is a Gothic Revival courthouse in the Auckland city centre, New Zealand. The Court is one of three locations used by the High Court of New Zealand across New Zealand. It is registered as a Category I heritage building by Heritage New Zealand.

St George's Bay (Māori: Te Wai o Taikehu) is a reclaimed bay on the southern side of the Waitematā Harbour that was one of the inner city bays. It was framed by two substantial headlands, Points Dunlop and Barnabas separating it from Mechanics Bay in the west, and Campbell's Point, after John Logan Campbell, separating it from Judge's Bay on the east. Point Dunlop and Point Barnabas have since been quarried away entirely, and Campbell's Point partially. This was originally known as Cooper’s Bay, after the first Colonial Treasurer, George Cooper, then George’s Bay, and finally St George’s Bay. St George’s Bay Road led down to the shoreline where remnants of the early cliff survive. The Maori name for the area is Waiataikehu or waiakehu, ‘waters of Taikehu’. Taikehu is the ancestor for the ancient Ngai Tai tribe. St George’s Bay was cut off from the sea in 1920 and then reclaimed.

Mandrill Studios was a recording studio in Parnell, a suburb of Auckland, New Zealand. Many of New Zealand's prominent artists have had their work recorded there.
