Light Hall School

Bills Wood is a local nature reserve and park located in Shirley, Solihull. It covers an area of approximately 6.6 hectares (16 acres) and consists of a square parcel of woodland surrounded by residential suburbs. To the east the wood is bounded by the school playing fields of Light Hall School. A wide range of plants and animals makes the wood an important urban space, and was therefore granted local nature reserve status in 1991.

St James the Great, Shirley is a Grade II listed parish church in the town of Shirley in Metropolitan Borough of Solihull in the West Midlands, England. It is part of the Anglican Diocese of Birmingham.

Solihull Lodge is a residential area of Solihull (to the southwest of Shirley), near its border with Birmingham (Yardley Wood and Warstock areas). The area developed originally from a number of farms which were located near to the Mill Pond on Priory Road. The arrival of the Birmingham–Stratford canal enabled more development, and now the area has a population of around 2,500. The area includes Peterbrook Primary School, The Lodge Public House, Solihull Lodge Community Centre, and local shops Oxhill Road One Stop and Esso Spar.

Solihull West and Shirley is a constituency of the House of Commons in the UK Parliament. The constituency was created as a result of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies and was first contested at the 2024 general election. The constituency name refers to the town of Shirley and the western areas of the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull. This is part of a boundary review that resulted in the borough being split between three Westminster constituencies.

Shirley Baptist Church is a Baptist church in Solihull near Birmingham, England. The church building is situated on Stratford Road (A34) with halls facing into Trinity Place in the Parkgate pedestrianised area. The church was founded in 1797 and is a member of the Baptist Union of Great Britain and the Evangelical Alliance.

Shirley railway station serves the Shirley area of Solihull in the West Midlands of England. Situated on the North Warwickshire Line, the station, and all trains serving it, are operated by West Midlands Trains.

Dickens Heath is a large modern village and civil parish within the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull in the English county of West Midlands incorporating the much older hamlet of Whitlocks End. It was previously part of the civil parish of Hockley Heath, and borders Cheswick Green and Tidbury Green in Solihull, as well as Hollywood in Worcestershire. Situated 3.5 miles southwest of Solihull town centre, Dickens Heath new village had a population of 4,793 people as taken at the 2021 census.

Highgate United Football Club is a football club based in the Shirley district of Solihull, having relocated from their original location of Highgate in Birmingham. They are currently members of the Midland League Premier Division and play at the Coppice.

Palmers Rough is a local nature reserve and park located in Shirley, Solihull. It covers an area of approximately 7.3 hectares (18 acres) and consists of two separate woodland blocks; Palmers Coppice to the east, and Squires Coppice to the west. They are separated by open grassland and include for two football pitches and a small children's playground. A wide range of plants and animals makes Palmers Rough an important urban space and was therefore granted local nature reserve status in 2000. The presence of Palmers Rough is noted within the Domesday Book, and suggests that the woodland dates back over 900 years.A walk through the woods is especially rewarding in springtime when bluebells produce a vivid carpet of colour.

Robin Hood Cemetery and Crematorium is located near Shirley, West Midlands, within the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull, in the West Midlands. The cemetery was opened in 1917 and covers an area of 45 acres (18 ha) and comprises extensive landscaped lawn graves interspersed with ancient woodland. A cemetery chapel was built in 1931, and the crematorium was built in 1958, including for modifications to the chapel to cater for the cremation facilities.There are 43 Commonwealth service personnel buried in the cemetery whose graves are registered and maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, 2 from World War I and 41 from World War II. A World War I Victoria Cross recipient, Thomas Turrall (1885–1964) is buried here. Janet Parker, a medical photographer who in 1978 became the last person to die from smallpox, was cremated here in accordance with disease control measures.The cemetery is very nearly full to capacity and the council generally only allows interments in existing graves. There are however above ground vaults, which were constructed in 2005, for cremated remains for which leases are available.

Major's Green is a village in the Wythall parish of Bromsgrove district and is the northeastern-most settlement in the county of Worcestershire, England. The village is served by Whitlocks End railway station as well as bus service A4 to Solihull, and is the location of The Drawbridge Public House named after the adjacent drawbridge on the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal.The village is closely associated with the surrounding West Midlands county (3 of the 4 roads from the village lead into the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull) in respect of transport and amenities, and as such can also be considered an outer suburb of Shirley. Indeed the village was located within Solihull Municipal Borough and hence the county of Warwickshire until 1962. Originally the county boundary had continued along the River Cole between Houndsfield Lane northward to Peter Brook but in the 13th century it moved half a mile westwards to Trueman's Heath (The Fordrough) and the 700 year old pre-1962 border continues to delineate the Birmingham B47 from the Solihull B90 B postcode areas. Thirty years after the change in county, as part of a Local Government Boundary Commission for England review, Solihull MBC initially suggested that Major's Green should be transferred from Bromsgrove back to its area, but subsequently withdrew the suggestion in the face of opposition from others.The nearest primary school is Mill Lodge, with the nearest in-county primary school being Coppice, Hollywood, which is also equidistant with Tidbury Green School. Being in-catchment, secondary aged children living in Major's Green are guaranteed a place at Woodrush High School if they so choose, whilst Light Hall School is also within walking distance. Hollywood Travel excursions and coach hire company is based in the village, as is the five lake Woods Farm Fishery and the adjacent Wake Green Amateur Football Club (both located next to the Drawbridge PH). The clubhouse of Shirley Town (junior) Football Club, based opposite the railway station car park entrance on Tilehouse Lane, opens as a public cafe at weekends.The site of an Iron Age hill fort, Berry Mound lies just outside Major's Green as does the eastern end of the North Worcestershire Path (on Peterbrook Road near the junction with Aqueduct Road). Another waymarked path starts just a few hundred metres north in Green Lane Park. This is the Cole Valley Route from Shirley (Mill Lodge) to Chelmsley Wood via Small Heath (Ackers) passing through the Shire Country Park. The direct link between the ends of the two paths, Aqueduct Road, is not pedestrian friendly however, particularly under the high narrow canal bridge known as Major's Green Aqueduct.
