Castle Gresley

Gresley railway station was a railway station at Castle Gresley, Derbyshire on the Leicester to Burton upon Trent Line.

Linton is a settlement and civil parish in South Derbyshire, England, 5 miles south east of Burton-on-Trent. The population of the civil parish taken at the 2011 Census was 2,303.Nearby settlements are the town of Swadlincote and the villages of Castle Gresley, Overseal, Rosliston, Cauldwell (pronounced "Cordal") and Botany Bay. Many former fields to the south of the village are now wooded areas, forming part of the National Forest. Linton village consists of a primary school, a convenience store with a post office, one pub, two churches, a village hall, a community room called The Brick Room and Rickman's Corner Community Hall. The Brick Room belongs to Linton Church; it may have been a schoolroom years ago. The highlight of the year used to be the Sale of Work (a craft fair) held in late November of early December, and the Harvest Supper. The bus services locally to Swadlincote and Burton upon Trent are provided by Arriva Midlands and Diamond East Midlands. Linton Primary School is on Main Street towards Linton Heath.

Gresley Priory was a monastery of Augustinian Canons regular in Church Gresley, Derbyshire, England, founded in the 12th century. Following the Dissolution of the Monasteries, the priory church became the village's parish church of St George and St Mary It was the church that gave Church Gresley its name. Excavations undertaken in 1861 reveal the priory's buildings were situated around a cloister to the south of the church; the refectory occupied the south range, and two chapter houses occupied spaces to the east of the cloister. Of the original 12th-century priory buildings, only the foundations of the church and the lower section of the tower remain; this is due to large scale rebuilding works done around 1820. The church is Grade II* listed.

Church Gresley is a large suburban village and former civil parish in the South Derbyshire district of Derbyshire, England. The village is situated between Castle Gresley and the town of Swadlincote, with which it is contiguous. By the time of the 2011 Census the village was a ward of Swadlincote, of which it is now effectively a suburb, and the population of Church Gresley ward was 6,881. The village forms part of the border with Leicestershire to the southeast. Nearby villages include Albert Village, Linton and Overseal.

Gresley Rovers Football Club is an English football club from Church Gresley, South Derbyshire. Gresley is a member of the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands and plays home games at the Moat Ground. They were known as Gresley Rovers until 2009, when they were reformed under the name of Gresley F.C. In July 2020 the club readopted their original name, Gresley Rovers.

William Allitt Academy (formerly William Allitt School), is a co-educational secondary school located in the village of Newhall, Swadlincote in South Derbyshire, England.The school was founded in 1895 as the Newhall Central Board School, when the Newhall Oversetts and Newhall High Street Board Schools were merged. In 1914, the school was split into separate boys' and girls' schools, but these recombined in 1939. Due to subsidence from mining, it relocated to a new site in 1959, and was renamed after local councillor William Allitt. In 1966, it became a comprehensive school.Previously a community school administered by Derbyshire County Council, in September 2022 William Allitt School converted to academy status and was renamed The William Allitt Academy. The school is now sponsored by the Falcon Education Academies Trust.The school's headteacher is Jackie Cooper. Deputy Headteacher Mike McCandless was acting head teacher from September 2013 to April 2014 and previous to this the head teacher was David Clarke. Clarke took over after John Crossley retired in 2010 having been head at the school since 1996.

The Pingle Academy is a co-educational secondary school and sixth form located at Coronation Street in Swadlincote, South Derbyshire, England. The name comes from the former Pingle Farm; Pingle being a Midlands term for a small field or allotment.

Overseal is a village and civil parish in South Derbyshire district of Derbyshire, England. It is 3 miles (4.8 km) south of Swadlincote, 5 miles (8.0 km) west of Ashby-de-la-Zouch and 13 miles (21 km) south-southwest of Derby. It had a population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 2,450. Situated within the National Forest area, it is near the villages of Netherseal and Lullington as well as being close to the border with Leicestershire. It is one of the southernmost settlements in Derbyshire. Historically both Overseal and Netherseal were part of Leicestershire: they were transferred from Leicestershire to Derbyshire in 1897, in return for Leicestershire absorbing several of Derbyshire's enclaves (see county enclaves).
