Brigdamme

Sint Laurens is a village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is located in the municipality of Middelburg, about 3 km north of the city.

Walcheren (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈʋɑlxərə(n)] ) is a region and former island in the Dutch province of Zeeland at the mouth of the Scheldt estuary. It lies between the Eastern Scheldt in the north and the Western Scheldt in the south and is roughly the shape of a rhombus. The two sides facing the North Sea consist of dunes and the rest of its coastline is made up of dykes. Middelburg, the provincial capital, lies at Walcheren's centre. Vlissingen, 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) to the south, is the main harbour and the third municipality is Veere. Originally, Walcheren was an island, but the Sloedam, constructed in 1871 for a railway, and poldering after World War II have connected it to the (former) island of Zuid-Beveland, which in turn was connected to the North Brabant mainland by the Kreekrakdam (Completed in 1867). The Veerse Gatdam, completed in 1961, has connected Walcheren to Noord-Beveland.

University College Roosevelt (UCR), formerly known as Roosevelt Academy (RA), is a small, honors undergraduate liberal arts and science college located in Middelburg in the Netherlands and the sole university in Zeeland. It offers a residential setting, and is an international honors college of Utrecht University. It is named in honour of the Roosevelt family, which traces its ancestry to the province of Zeeland.

Middelburg Town Hall is situated at the market of Middelburg, Zeeland. It is considered one of the finest Gothic buildings in the Netherlands. Construction began in 1452 and was supervised by several generations of the Flemish family of architects Keldermans. Construction was completed in 1520, the town hall received a facade with Gothic windows, red-white shutters, smaller turrets and twenty-five statues of Zeeland's counts and countesses. The building has one main tower, which the Middelburgers call 'Malle Betje'. This mocking name comes from the fact it used to run behind the town's other clock tower, the 'lange Jan'. A meat-auction or 'meathall' used to be situated in the building, which had a separate entrance. Whereas the town hall itself is still used for weddings, since 2004 its spaces are in use by the University College Roosevelt, the local university. The former meat hall has been in use as an exhibition space for the SBKM since 1980.

Middelburg Abbey (The Abbey of Our Lady) is a former Premonstratensian abbey in Middelburg, the Netherlands. At one time it was the centre of a large monastic complex.Today parts of what survives are used for a museum and as offices. Located approximately 65 km (40 miles) west of Bergen op Zoom, Middelburg is the principal town and regional capital of Zeeland in the Netherlands.

Het Groot Paradijs is a defunct restaurant in Middelburg, in the Netherlands. It was a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star in 1996 and retained that rating until 2002. For 2007, it was again awarded a Michelin star.The owner and head chef of Het Groot Paradijs was Ferdie Dolk.In the first star period, 1996–2002, Ron Henderikse was head chef.The restaurant closed in 2007, with the owners opening a new restaurant in Domburg.The restaurant is housed in a Rijksmonument.

The siege of Middelburg (1572–1574) lasted over a year during the Eighty Years' War. A Dutch rebel army with the support of the English laid siege to Middelburg, which was being held by Spanish forces under Cristóbal de Mondragón, on 4 November 1572. The Spanish held out and only capitulated on 18 February 1574, when news arrived that a relief effort to save Middelburg was defeated at Rimmerswiel.

Middelburg (Dutch: [ˈmɪdəlbʏr(ə)x] ) is a city and municipality in the south-western Netherlands serving as the capital of the province of Zeeland. Situated on the central peninsula of the Zeeland province, Midden-Zeeland (consisting of former islands Walcheren, Noord-Beveland and Zuid-Beveland), it has a population of about 48,000. In terms of technology, Middelburg played a role in the Scientific Revolution at the early modern period. The town was historically a center of lens crafting in the Golden Age of Dutch science and technology. The invention of the microscope and telescope is often credited to Middelburg spectacle-makers (including Zacharias Janssen and Hans Lipperhey) in the late 16th century and early 17th century.

The Zeeland Library (Zeeuwse Bibliotheek) in Middelburg, Netherlands, is the official library of Zeeland and the academic library of University College Roosevelt.

Buttinge en Zandvoort (or Buttinge c.a.) is a former municipality in the Dutch province of Zeeland, which existed until 1816. In that year, it was made a part of the municipality of Grijpskerke, and it is now part of the municipality of Veere. The only recorded village in the municipality was Buttinge. Zandvoort was a former hamlet between Buttinge and Middelburg. It may have been a larger village in medieval times, but around the middle of the 19th century, there were only a former mansion and a population of about 50 left.Buttinge c.a. was a free estate before the introduction of the municipal system around 1800. As such, it automatically became a municipality, albeit sparsely populated. The estate used the following coat of arms: 'or, a double-headed eagle gules'. Upon this CoA a flag was designed, using the same eagle, but on a horizontally divided yellow and red flag. The eagle itself has then mirrored colours.In 1816, Buttinge en Zandvoort merged with Grijpskerke en Poppendamme and Hoogelande into the new municipality 'Grijpskerke', which was by far the largest settlement. Grijpskerke in turn merged into Mariekerke in 1966 and finally, in 1997, into Veere.

The Canal through Walcheren in the Netherlands crosses the east of Walcheren. It connects the Westerschelde and the Veerse Meer.

Middelburg is a railway station in southern Middelburg, Netherlands. The station opened on 1 March 1872 and is located on the Roosendaal–Vlissingen railway. The services are operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen. The station lies on the south side of Middelburg across the canal from the centre. The station area has undergone a metamorphosis since 2000. A new, modern bus station was built (previously the stops were located on the other side of the canal).
