UMass Chan Medical School

UMass Memorial Health (UMM Health) is the clinical partner of the University of Massachusetts Medical School and the largest healthcare system in Central Massachusetts. It is a not-for-profit/nonprofit healthcare network providing all levels of primary to quartenary healthcare.

The Worcester State Hospital Farmhouse is a historic psychiatric hospital building at 361 Plantation Street, on the former grounds of the Worcester State Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts. Built in 1895, it is a well-preserved local example of Georgian Revival architecture, and is notable as a prototype for similar buildings in the Massachusetts state hospital network. It served as an outbuilding of Worcester State Hospital until 1969, housing select residents who worked in its fields. It now houses state mental health offices. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2017.

Worcester State Hospital was a Massachusetts state mental hospital located in Worcester, Massachusetts. It is credited to the architectural firm of Weston & Rand. The hospital and surrounding associated historic structures are listed as Worcester Asylum and related buildings on the National Register of Historic Places.It was once known as the Worcester Lunatic Asylum and the Bloomingdale Asylum. The hospital dates back to the 1830s. On January 12, 1833, the Worcester Insane Asylum opened. It was the first of its kind in the state. During the first year, 164 patients were received. As the facility soon became overcrowded, superintendent Merrick Bemis called for the construction of a new asylum. A massive structure was to be laid out in the Kirkbride Plan and located on Belmont Street. Construction began in 1870 and the newly built Worcester State Hospital was completed in 1876 at the cost of well over a million dollars. The wards were named after places in Massachusetts as well as numerous founders of the American Psychiatric Association, such as Howe, Appleton, Woodward, Gage, Hooper, Folsom, and Thayer.

Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital is a 320-bed hospital opened on 16 August 2012 in Worcester, Massachusetts that replaces both Worcester State Hospital and part of Taunton State Hospital since some is still in use. This hospital aims to be recovery driven in the aspect of finding alternative and productive methods to help individuals who struggle with a psychiatric diagnosis.

Lake Quinsigamond (also Long Pond) is a body of water situated between the city of Worcester and the town of Shrewsbury in Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States. It is 4 miles (6.4 km) long, between 50 and 85 feet (15 and 26 m) deep, and has a surface area of approximately 772 acres (3.12 km2). Lake Quinsigamond hosts 8 islands with the majority owned by private citizens. Two islands are connected to land via bridge. The largest island, Drake Island, is still state owned. Water from the lake empties into the Quinsigamond River in the Blackstone Valley.

White City was an amusement park located in Shrewsbury, a suburb of Worcester, Massachusetts. It bordered Lake Quinsigamond and ran from 1905 to 1960.

The Bloomingdale School is a historic former school building at 327 Plantation Street in Worcester, Massachusetts. Built in 1896, it is a notable local example of Richardsonian Romanesque architecture. It was used as a school until 1982, after which it was converted into residences. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

The Richard Barker Octagon House is a historic octagon house located in Worcester, Massachusetts. Built sometime between 1855 and 1865, during a brief period in their popularity, it is one of two octagon houses in the city, and a relatively rare instance of one built using Orson Squire Fowler's recommended gravel wall technique. On March 5, 1980, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The EcoTarium is a science and nature museum located in Worcester, Massachusetts. Previously known as the New England Science Center, the museum features several permanent and traveling exhibits, the Alden Planetarium, a narrow-gauge train pulled by a scale model of an 1860s steam engine, and a variety of wildlife.

Bloomingdale Firehouse, also known as the Brown Square Station, is a historic former firehouse at 267 Plantation Street/676 Franklin Street in Worcester, Massachusetts. Formerly home to the Worcester Fire Department's Engine Company 6, the building was built in 1895–96. It is a well-preserved example of Queen Anne and Colonial Revival styling. The building served as a firehouse until 2008, when it was replaced by a new station, located at 266 Franklin Street, the site of the well-known Worcester Cold Storage and Warehouse Co. fire. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. It has been converted into a private residence.

North High School (or Worcester North) is a public four-year high school and one of five public high schools in Worcester, Massachusetts, United States. The original North High was located on Harrington Way and was built in 1972 as a junior high school. It became North High in 1980 when the old North High on Salisbury Street was closed, sold to a private developer and subsequently turned into condos. There are approximately 1,300 students that attend North, which boasts a diverse student body. Non-Hispanic Whites make up 11 percent of the student body while Hispanics make up 34 percent. African-Americans comprise 47 percent and Asians make up 8 percent. The mascot of North High is a polar bear and the school colors are black and orange. North High School offers a variety of extra-curricular activities such as clubs and sports. It is also most noted for their boys basketball team, which won the district title in 2005. In March 2023, the boys basketball team won the MIAA Division 1 Basketball State Championship at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, MA. North High's building was considered old and run down. The new building was ready for use in 2011 and is approximately 225,000 square feet (20,900 m2). The Worcester City Council gave the go-ahead to a new North High in 2000, when the cost was estimated at $5 million. But the project was slow to get off the ground while on the waiting list for a construction grant, while the State Department of Education and the State Treasurer reorganized the School Building Assistance Program. The ten year delay and rising construction costs pushed the price tag of the new school to $8 million. The new building opened for the 2011–2012 school year.
