Hurst Green, Lancashire

Aighton, Bailey and Chaigley is a civil parish in the Borough of Ribble Valley in Lancashire, England, just west of Clitheroe. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 1,307, an increase from 1,249 in 2001.The main settlements in the parish are Hurst Green and Walker Fold. Other places are Aighton, Bailey and Chaigley, originally three hamlets forming a township. Stonyhurst College is located near to Hurst Green, within the parish.

Stonyhurst is the name of a 1,000-acre (4 km2) rural estate owned by the Society of Jesus near Clitheroe in Lancashire, England. It is centred on Stonyhurst College, occupying the great house, its preparatory school Stonyhurst Saint Mary's Hall and the parish church, St Peter's.

St Peter's Church is a Roman Catholic Parish Church in Stonyhurst. It is the parish church for Hurst Green, Lancashire and a chapel for Stonyhurst College. It was built from 1832 to 1835 and designed by Joseph John Scoles in the Gothic Revival style. It was founded by the Society of Jesus and has been served by Jesuit priests since. It is a Grade I listed building.

The Jesuit origins of Stonyhurst College in Lancashire, England, have enabled it to amass a large collection of books, a number of which concern recusant history, whilst artefacts from all over the world have been donated to the school by Jesuit missionaries and alumni. The school has four main libraries: the Arundell, the Bay, the Square and the More (dedicated to Saint Thomas More). It also has two museums: the Do Room and the Long Room.

Stonyhurst St Mary's Hall (commonly known as S.M.H.) is the preparatory school to Stonyhurst College. It is an independent co-educational Catholic school, for ages 3–13, founded by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). It is primarily a day school but has some boarders. As the lineal descendant of Hodder Place the school lays claim to be the oldest preparatory school in the country.It is adjacent to Stonyhurst College, outside the small village of Hurst Green, near Clitheroe in Lancashire, England.

Dinckley Brook is a minor river of Lancashire, England. The stream rises at the confluence of several minor watercourses at Wheatley Farm close to Copster Green and flows northwards, through Cunliffe House Wood and under Dinckley Bridge (near to where it meets Park Brook). The brook continues past Brockhall, Great Wood and Bradyll, continuing past the Brockhall training base of Blackburn Rovers and through Mill Wood. Soon afterwards, Dinckley Brook falls into the River Ribble.

Stonyhurst College is a co-educational Roman Catholic independent school, adhering to the Jesuit tradition, on the Stonyhurst Estate, Lancashire, England. It occupies a Grade I listed building. The school has been fully co-educational since 1999. A precursor institution of the college was founded in 1593 by Father Robert Persons SJ at St Omer, at a time when penal laws prohibited Roman Catholic education in England. After moving to Bruges in 1762 and Liège in 1773, the college was headed for oblivion, but for the generosity of an old boy, Thomas Weld (of Lulworth), who intervened. Weld's enormous benefaction enabled the expatriated school to establish itself on English soil in 1794 when it was granted the Stonyhurst estate. It provides boarding and day education to approximately 450 boys and girls aged 13–18. On an adjacent site, its preparatory school, St Mary's Hall, provides education for boys and girls aged 3–13.

The Punch Bowl Inn was an 18th-century grade II-listed public house in Hurst Green, Ribble Valley, Lancashire, England. It consisted of a number of independent buildings, including what were originally two cottages and a barn, and a 19th-century extension. The pub was reputed to be haunted by the ghost of a highwayman. The pub closed in 2012 and afterwards stood empty. It was demolished in June 2021 without any planning permission to do so and an investigation followed, leading Ribble Valley Council to instruct the owners to rebuild it.

Dinckley is a small village and civil parish located in the Ribble Valley, in Lancashire, England. Owing to the limited extent of the population details from the Census 2011 are maintained within the civil parish of Billington and Langho. The parish is situated on the south side of the River Ribble, 6 miles (9.7 km) north of Blackburn. The northern boundary of the parish is formed by the River Ribble, and the eastern boundary by Park Brook and Dinckley Brook. The parish is part of the Langho ward, which is represented on Ribble Valley Borough Council by two councillors, both from the Conservative Party.Dinckley Ferry was a rowing boat which crossed the river connecting the village to Hurst Green. The ferry was replaced by a suspension bridge in the 1950s.

The Old Zoo is a modern country house in Brockhall Village, Lancashire, England, 6 miles (10 km) south-west of Clitheroe. It was finished in 2000 on the site of the old petting zoo of Brockhall Hospital. It was designed through a competition held by RIBA. The house was commissioned by property tycoon Gerald Hitman in 1997, and the winning design chosen out of over 120 entries was by Homa and Sima Farjadi. The New York Museum of Modern Art named The Old Zoo as one of 26 examples of the finest present-day house design worldwide in 1999. It has 15 acres (61,000 m2) of gardens.It was featured on the BBC Four program Living with the Future. John Tempest, former RIBA vice president, called it "the best contemporary house built in England since the 1930s" and Giles Worsley, former architecture editor of the Daily Telegraph called it "the most radical house in England".

Brockhall Village is a gated community in the Ribble Valley, Lancashire, England. The village is in the civil parish of Billington and Langho and is 7 miles (11 km) north of Blackburn. Developed during the 1990s by property entrepreneur Gerald Hitman, Brockhall Village occupies the site of a former mental hospital and is the home of the training facilities for Blackburn Rovers F.C. Homes on the estate are among the most expensive in Lancashire.

Old St Leonard's Church is a redundant Anglican church 1 mile (1.6 km) northwest of the village of Langho, Lancashire, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building, and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust.
