Balmberg Pass (elevation 1078 m) is a high mountain pass in the Jura Mountains in the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland. It connects Welschenrohr and Günsberg. The road is one of the steepest pass roads in Switzerland, with gradients of up to 25%. The road is not recommended for novice drivers, big, wide or long vehicles, buses, vans and trucks, caravans, or trailers. It is however, ideal for motorcycles. Oncoming traffic in the middle or on the wrong side of the road can sometimes be encountered, especially in the bends. During periods of snow or ice, the road is closed from the pass summit to Welschenrohr on the north side.

The Balm ruins (German: Ruine Balm or Ruine Balmfluh) are the remains of a fortified cave dwelling at the foot of Balmfluh (alternative spelling: Balmflue) in the Jura Mountains, in the municipality of Balm bei Günsberg in the Canton of Solothurn. It is that canton's only cave stronghold and one of the few in Switzerland. It is a Swiss heritage site of national significance.

The Weissenstein (1,395 m) is a mountain of the Jura, located north of Solothurn in the Swiss canton of Solothurn. The culminating point of the chain is distinguished by the name Röti. It is the easternmost summit above 1,300 metres in the Jura Mountains. Until the end of 2009 there was a chairlift (length: 2339 m) from Oberdorf to the spa hotel on the 1,284 metre-high summit near the Weissenstein Pass. It was replaced by a gondola lift at the end of 2014. The tunnel of the railway line Solothurn-Moutier from Oberdorf to Gänsbrunnen on the other side was opened in 1908. The gondola lift crosses the railway track in front of the tunnel portal at Oberdorf, which is the only setting of this kind in Switzerland. The pass road leading from the village of Oberdorf across the Weissenstein Pass (1279 m) to Gänsbrunnen is one of the steepest in Switzerland (22%).

Welschenrohr (French: Rosières) is a former municipality in the district of Thal in the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland. On 1 January 2021 the former municipalities of Gänsbrunnen and Welschenrohr merged to form the new municipality of Welschenrohr-Gänsbrunnen.

Solothurn ( SOH-lə-toorn, ZOH-, German: [ˈzoːlotʊrn] ; French: Soleure [sɔlœʁ]; Italian: Soletta [soˈletta]; Romansh: ) is a town, a municipality, and the capital of the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland. It is located in the north-west of Switzerland on the banks of the Aare and on the foot of the Weissenstein Jura mountains. The town is the only municipality of the district of the same name. The town got its name from Salodurum, a Roman-era settlement. From 1530 to 1792 it was the seat of the French ambassador to Switzerland. The pedestrian-only old town was built between 1530 and 1792 and shows an impressive array of Baroque architecture, combining Italian Grandezza, French style, and Swiss ideas. The town has eighteen structures listed as heritage sites. The official language of Solothurn is (the Swiss variety of Standard) German, but the main spoken language is the local variant of the Alemannic Swiss German dialect.

Blumenstein Castle is an estate house in the municipality of Solothurn of the Canton of Solothurn in Switzerland. It is a Swiss heritage site of national significance. In 1952 it became the home of the Historical Museum of Solothurn.

The Kantonsschule Solothurn is a gymnasium in the municipality of Solothurn, Switzerland. With approximately 1,800 students (stand: 2007) it is among the biggest schools in Switzerland. The current principal is Stefan Zumbrunn-Würsch.
