Rubislaw Church

Queen's Cross is an area in the West End of Aberdeen, Scotland. It is located just west of the main thoroughfare of Union Street and about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) from the geographical town centre at Mercat Cross. Queen's Cross itself is the intersection of Fountainhall Road, Queen's Road, St Swithin Street, Albyn Place and Carden Place, where there is a roundabout with Queen Victoria's bronze statue in the middle. The statue of Queen Victoria at Queen's Cross, marks the beginning of Aberdeen's West End. The statue itself was originally located on St Nicolas Street, and was moved to its present location in 1964 (when what is now Marks and Spencer was built). The statue replaced an Alexander Brodie marble statue of 1866 (now within the Town House). It was erected by the Royal Tradesmen of the city to commemorate Her Majesty's Jubilee. The statue was originally to have been marble, sculpted by Pittendreigh Macgillivray, ARSA, however this plan was not executed. Granite was the next possibility, but the statue was considered too small and delicate for this material. Finally a bronze was ordered from C. B. Birch, ARA, who had produced a marble statue of Queen Victoria for the Maharajah of Oodypore. The statue faces west, looking up Queen's Road towards Balmoral, the Queen's summer residence. There are two Church of Scotland churches at the intersection; Queen's Cross Church and Rubislaw Church, and also St Joseph's Primary School. The surrounding buildings and their streets are typical of the Victorian period in which they were built. They are built of the local gray granite. The Queen's Cross area, particularly Queen's Road and Albyn Place, is home to the offices of many finance businesses who have moved into the old Victorian mansion houses. There are also a number of exclusive restaurants and bars in the area. This area is considered by many in the local area as the centre point of the West End of Aberdeen.

Queen's Cross Church is a congregation of the Church of Scotland. It is located at the intersection of Carden Place and Albyn Place, at Queen's Cross in the heart of Aberdeen's west end business community. It is a short walk from the main shopping areas of the city and several main hotels. The church was designated as a Category B listed building in 1967 and was upgraded to Category A in 1984.

Albyn School is a coeducational private day school, founded in 1867 in Aberdeen, Scotland. Albyn was originally an all-girls school before becoming co-educational in 2005. The school has a nursery, primary school and secondary school; pupils can attend from 2 years old to 18 years old.

Albyn Hospital is a private hospital in Aberdeen, Scotland. It is situated on Albyn Place, and is managed by BMI Healthcare.

Holburn West Church is a congregation of the Church of Scotland. It is located at the intersection Ashley Park Drive and the Great Western Road, in the west end of Aberdeen, Scotland. The church building was opened for worship in October 1894. The Sanctuary and entrance to the church was refurbished in 2004. The church has a choir that is under the patronage of The Duchess of Kent. The Organist and Choirmaster is James G.R. Campbell. The organ was built in 1922, by Abbott and Smith and overhauled in 1974 by N.P. Mander.

Aberdeenshire (Scots: Aiberdeenshire; Scottish Gaelic: Siorrachd Obar Dheathain) is one of the 32 council areas of Scotland. It takes its name from the County of Aberdeen, which has substantially different boundaries. The Aberdeenshire Council area includes all of the area of the historic counties of Aberdeenshire and Kincardineshire (except the area making up the City of Aberdeen), as well as part of Banffshire. The county boundaries are officially used for a few purposes, namely land registration and lieutenancy.Aberdeenshire Council is headquartered at Woodhill House, in Aberdeen, making it the only Scottish council whose headquarters are located outside its jurisdiction. Aberdeen itself forms a different council area (Aberdeen City). Aberdeenshire borders onto Angus and Perth and Kinross to the south, Highland and Moray to the west and Aberdeen City to the east. Traditionally, it has depended economically on the primary sector (agriculture, fishing, and forestry) and related processing industries. Over the last 40 years, the development of the oil and gas industry and associated service sector has broadened Aberdeenshire's economic base, and contributed to a rapid population growth of some 50% since 1975. Its land represents 8% of Scotland's overall territory. It covers an area of 6,313 square kilometres (2,437 sq mi).

Bonnymuir Green Community Trust is a community-owned green space in Aberdeen, Scotland, running a sustainable community garden and café.

Rubislaw Playing Fields in Aberdeen, Scotland is an 18-acre (73,000 m2) sports field for Aberdeen Grammar School and for the Scottish Premiership rugby union team Aberdeen GSFP RFC. Of course other sports are played here such as Hockey – at National league Level by Aberdeen Grammar Hockey Club, football and cricket. The pavilion at the park was built as a war memorial to pupils from Aberdeen Grammar School who died in the first world war. An extension to the existing granite pavilion was opened in February 2009. A new Astroturf all-weather pitch has been completed which is used every day of the week.

Victoria Park is a small park in the city of Aberdeen, Scotland. The park has an area of five hectares and was opened to the public in 1871. It is named after Queen Victoria. In the center of the park is a fountain made of fourteen different types of granite that was presented to the citizens of the city by the Granite Polishers and Master Builders of Aberdeen. A greenhouse and conservatory used to present in the south-east corner of the park, but were demolished in early 2014 as a result of repeated vandalism.Restoration work on the fountain, which is category A listed, took place between September 2021 and April 2022. The work allowed the fountain to operate again.

Midstocket is an area of Aberdeen, Scotland. It is named after the Forest of Stocket, which was a gift from Robert the Bruce to the people of Aberdeen in 1319. The income from the forests land formed Aberdeen's Common Good Fund. Midstocket Road cuts through the area and is generally seen as the focal point of the Midstocket Area. The streets between Midstocket Road and Westburn Road from Mile-End School are considered to be in the Midstocket Area. Between Rosemount and Mile-End School is considered the Mile-End area despite Midstocket Road passing through it. Midstocket Parish Church, which is also used as a community facility, is located on Midstocket Road.

Harlaw Academy is a six-year comprehensive secondary school situated 200 yards from the junction of Union Street and Holburn Street in the centre of Aberdeen, Scotland. It is directly adjacent to St Margaret's School for Girls. The academy draws most of its pupils from its associated primary schools, namely, Broomhill Primary School, Ferryhill Primary School, Kaimhill Primary School and Hanover Street School. Ross McLaren has been headteacher since February 2020.

Rosemount is an area of Aberdeen, Scotland. When referring to Rosemount, the area is generally taken to include Rosemount Place and the surrounding streets. It is situated to the north west of the city centre and is bounded by Berryden, Midstocket and Queens Cross. The area is largely Victorian with grey granite tenement blocks representative of the period. At the west end of Rosemount larger houses exist on streets such as Belvidere Crescent. Victoria Park can be found in the north of the area. Rosemount Place itself is a very busy street for both cars and pedestrian and has small shops lining almost the entire street. It maintains a lot of traditional premises such as butchers, fishmongers, cheese shops and bakers. This area is one of the few still in existence in Aberdeen where many independent stores can be found. Due to this fact, it remains popular and many businesses are prosperous, with empty units rare.
