Kennedy Plaza

Burnside Park is a small park situated in Downtown Providence, Rhode Island, adjacent to Kennedy Plaza. The park is named for Ambrose Burnside, a general in the American Civil War from Rhode Island. An equestrian statue of Ambrose Burnside was erected in the late 19th century and sits in the center of the park.

Major General Ambrose E. Burnside, also known as the Ambrose Burnside Monument, is a monumental equestrian statue in Providence, Rhode Island, United States. The statue, located in the city's Burnside Park, was designed by sculptor Launt Thompson and depicts Ambrose Burnside, an officer in the Union Army during the American Civil War who later served as the governor of Rhode Island. Ambrose had died in 1881 and the project to erect a statue in his honor began shortly afterwards. It was dedicated on July 4, 1887 in a large ceremony that included several notable guests of honor, such as General William Tecumseh Sherman, Colonel Robert Hale Ives Goddard, and the governors of both Connecticut and Rhode Island. The monument was originally located in Exchange Place (now known as Kennedy Plaza), but it was moved to its current location in the early 1900s. As part of the move, the pedestal was replaced with one designed by William R. Walker.

The Industrial National Bank Building, located at 111 Westminster Street or 55 Kennedy Plaza in downtown Providence, Rhode Island, was built in 1928 as the Industrial Trust Co. Building, and was designed by the New York firm of Walker & Gillette. At 428 feet (130 m) with 26 floors, it is the tallest building in Providence and the state of Rhode Island, and the 28th tallest in New England; when it was completed it stood several stories higher than the recently finished Biltmore Hotel nearby.Known through the years as the "Fleet Bank Tower", the "Bank of America Building", and, most recently, "111 Westminster", locally it is commonly referred to as the "Superman Building", because of its visual similarity to the headquarters of the Daily Planet newspaper seen in the Superman comic book and shown on The Adventures of Superman TV series from the 1950s. The building has been vacant since Bank of America moved out in April 2013. An estimate in 2016 was that it would take $115 million to rehabilitate the building. Requests for public financing were rejected in 2017.

The Federal Building is a historic post office, courthouse and custom house on Kennedy Plaza in downtown Providence, Rhode Island. It is a courthouse for the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island. It was built in 1908 by Clarke & Howe of limestone and steel and has a courtyard in the center.

50 Kennedy Plaza (formerly known as Fleet Center) is a postmodern skyscraper in Providence, Rhode Island. At a height of 285 ft (87 m), it is currently the sixth-tallest building in the city and state. The building is named for Kennedy Plaza, which stands to the structure's northeast. Built by Gilbane Building Company, notable occupants with headquarters in the building include Fortune 1000 company Nortek, Inc. and private equity firm Providence Equity Partners.The building's exterior façade features in "granite framing green-reflective-glass side elevations". Its location, sandwiched between the 125 m (410 ft) One Financial Center and the 130 m (430 ft) Industrial National Bank Building, ostensibly detracts from its height with architectural historian William Woodward calling it, "a trifle too low for the site." In company of its two neighbors, however, the building forms part of one of the most identifiable parts of the Providence skyline. This section of the Providence skyline is featured on the animated television series Family Guy. The building is accessible via 100 Westminster St., which has been owned by Paolino Properties since 2014.

The Alliance of Artists Communities is an international non-profit arts organization. Founded in 1991 following a pilot program and recommendation through the MacArthur Foundation, the organization is focused on advocacy, promotion, and cultivation of residencies for artists and artist communities. The organization created the first national directory of artist communities in 1995.Members of the Alliance include the MacDowell Colony (Peterborough, New Hampshire, US), the Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts (Helena, Montana, US), Yaddo (Saratoga Springs, New York, US), and Red Gate Gallery (Beijing, China).The organization's headquarters are in Providence, Rhode Island, following an invitation in 2002 by then Rhode Island School of Design president Roger Mandle.

Providence City Hall is the center of the municipal government in Providence, Rhode Island. It is located at the southwest end of Kennedy Plaza at 25 Dorrance Street in Providence. The building was constructed between 1875 and 1878, and designed by Samuel J. F. Thayer in the Second Empire style. In 1975, the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is also a contributing structure to the broader Downtown Providence Historic District.

The Westminster Arcade (also known as the Providence Arcade, Arcade Providence, or The Arcade) is a historic shopping center at 130 Westminster Street and 65 Weybosset Street in downtown Providence, Rhode Island built in 1828. It is notable as the first enclosed shopping mall in the United States and has been lauded as a fine example of commercial Greek Revival architecture. It served as a shopping center for many years before falling into decline in the late 20th century. It has since been closed for renovation and rehabilitation several times, and most recently reopened its doors in October 2013 as a residential and commercial mixed-use building. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1976.

The John O. Pastore Federal Building is a courthouse of the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island located in Providence, Rhode Island.

Tony Lepore (born October 17, 1947), popularly known as the Dancing Cop, is a retired American police officer who danced while directing traffic in Providence, Rhode Island during the December holiday season. Lepore has also done stage performances.[1] Lepore began dancing while directing traffic in 1984 as a way to relieve boredom. After he retired from the Providence Police Department, city leaders asked that him to return during the holiday season in 1992. He agreed to a contract to return as a reserve police officer and continued the practice in ensuing yearsIn 2015, Providence officials elected to terminate Lepore's contract. Lepore alleged that they fired him for organizing an anti-Black Lives Matter protest.In 2019, Lepore announced his retirement and move to Florida.

The United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island (in case citations, D.R.I.) is the federal district court whose jurisdiction is the state of Rhode Island. The District Court was created in 1790 when Rhode Island ratified the Constitution. The Federal Courthouse was built in 1908. Appeals from the District of Rhode Island are taken to the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit (except for patent claims and claims against the U.S. government under the Tucker Act, which are appealed to the Federal Circuit). The United States Attorney for the District of Rhode Island represents the United States in civil and criminal litigation in the court. As of December 13, 2021 the United States Attorney is Zachary A. Cunha.
