University of Alicante

The Miguel de Cervantes Virtual Library (MCVL; in Spanish: Biblioteca Virtual Miguel de Cervantes, BVMC) is a large-scale digital library project, hosted and maintained by the University of Alicante in Alicante, Spain. It comprises the largest open-access repository of digitised Spanish-language historical texts and literature from the Ibero-American world. When officially launched in 1999, the BVMC was the first digital archive of Spanish-language texts on the internet, initially reproducing some 2,000 individual works by 400 of the most significant authors in Spanish, Latin American literary and Hispanic Africa. By 2005–2006 the number of registered and available works had reached over 22,000. The library is named for Miguel de Cervantes, the famous 16th-century Spanish author and one of the most illustrious names in world literary history. From its inception in 1999, this library has chosen to apply structural markup based on XML and the TEI encoding scheme for the creation of its documents.

Dona Lluna: A Tribute to Womankind is a sculpture by Saülo Mercader, standing in the middle of a rotunda, in the heart of the City of Sant Vicent del Raspeig, the home of Alicante University, in Southeastern Spain. It was unveiled on March 11, 2007 by local dignitaries and a symphony orchestra from Madrid. The sculpture, representing the shape of a powerful and massive female body, weighs 2 tons and is 4 metres high. The sculpture is surrounded by twelve painted stones ( 2 metres high) forming a lunar calendar. It is inspired by Saülo Mercader's birth in 1944, in a mansion called Los Molinos in the city of San Vicente del Raspeig where he lived for the first five years of his childhood. Dona Lluna is a Valencian name which means Moon Lady. It is engraved with the statement, "Aquí nací, aquí doy" ("I was born here, I give–her this work of art–here").

San Vicente del Raspeig (Spanish) or Sant Vicent del Raspeig (Valencian), or simply San Vicente / Sant Vicent, is a municipality located in the comarca of Alacantí, in the province of Alicante, Spain, inside the conurbation of Alicante city (6 km away and perfectly communicated). It has an area of 40.5 km² and according to the 2007 census, a total population of 55.434 inhabitants, with a large student population because it contains part of the University of Alicante (Universitat d'Alacant), a major educational institution. The town was founded in 1836 with the motto sequet però sanet ("dry but healthy"), but it was not considered a municipality until 1848.There are two important festivals every year: the Bonfires called Fogueres de Sant Vicent taking place during Summer, and the festival of Moors and Christians during Spring. The city has many quarries of limestone that enable the existence of cement factories.

Nazareth College, Alicante, is a work that was initiated by the Society of Jesus in 1957 to tend to the educational and other needs of at-risk youth and their families in the community of Alicante, Spain.

Estadio José Rico Pérez is a multi-purpose stadium in Alicante, Spain. It is currently used mostly for football matches, being home to Hércules CF. It also hosted World Cup matches when Spain organized the event in 1982. With a capacity of 29,500 seats, it is the 19th-largest stadium in Spain and the 3rd-largest in the Valencian Community. It was built in 1974, and is situated 2 miles outside Alicante city centre. The stadium is named after the former chairman of Hércules CF, José Rico Pérez.

Pabellón Pedro Ferrándiz is an arena, designed by Enric Miralles, in Alicante, Spain. Formerly named as Centro de Tecnificación de Alicante, it changed its name in honour to the Spanish basketball coach and member of the Basketball Hall of Fame Pedro Ferrándiz on 14 January 2014.The arena holds 5,425 people. It is primarily used for basketball and the home arena of Fundación Lucentum Baloncesto.

Alicante Terminal (Valencian: Alacant Terminal) is the central railway station of Alicante, Spain. Commonly referred locally as the RENFE station, the station is part of Adif system, and is a terminal station. The station accommodates RENFE long-distance and medium-distance trains, and it is the origin of lines C-1 and C-3 of Cercanías Murcia/Alicante (suburban trains). The station is not related to the narrow gauge railway Alicante-Dénia managed by FGV and part of the city's tram network. In 2013, AVE (high-speed) railway reached Alicante. While a new intermodal station is to be constructed in place of the current terminal, a temporal terminal is to be utilized by the high speed trains.

The bombing of Alicante was an aerial attack against the Spanish city of Alicante on 25 May 1938. It was one of the deadliest aerial bombings of the Spanish Civil War.

The siege of Alicante took place from December 1708 to April 1709 during the War of the Spanish Succession. The city of Alicante was besieged by a French and Spanish force loyal to Philip V. They were opposed by the garrison, an Allied force under the command of John Richards. After several months of siege, having successfully completed their task of delaying the enemy, the garrison eventually agreed terms of capitulation which allowed them to be evacuated to waiting British ships. The siege is most notable for a very large mine which was dug under the fortifications and detonated, killing Richards and many of his troops in February 1709.

Estudiotel Alicante (also Riscal) is a skyscraper and hotel in Alicante, Spain. It is located at Poeta Vila y Blanco Street 4 in 03003 postal area near Plaza de los Luceros. It is 117 metres (384 ft) high, with 35 floors. It is the tallest building in the city, ahead of El Barco in Albufereta at 111 metres (364 ft).The building was designed by local architect Francisco Muñoz Llorens and completed in 1962. Besides its height, the building is also distinguished by the geometrically designed parapets on its south face. It has 78 hotel rooms.

Alacantí (in Valencian and local Spanish)—also known in Spanish as Campo de Alicante and Comarca de Alicante—is a comarca in the Valencian Community, Spain. It is bordered by the comarques of Marina Baixa and Alcoià to the north, Baix Vinalopó to the south and Vinalopó Mitjà to the west.

The Archaeological Museum of Alicante (Spanish: Museo Arqueológico Provincial de Alicante, Valencian: Museu Arqueològic Provincial d'Alacant, abbreviated as MARQ) is an archaeological museum in Alicante, Spain. The museum won the European Museum of the Year Award in 2004, a few years after significant expansion and reallocation to renovated buildings of the antique hospital of San Juan de Dios. The museum houses eight galleries that use multimedia to allow visitors to interact with the lives of past residents of the region.
