It is sparsely populated, and residents rely on nearby Gumeracha for educational and commercial services. The town developed on a parcel of land taken up by the South Australian Company. The first manager of the station was William Beavis Randell who named a home he built, Kenton Park, after his home town in Devon.The Kenton Valley Post Office operated from 1873 to 1973. The school operated from 1904 to 1943.

It is home to a state primary school and small hamlet settlement, connected to Cudlee Creek. The original township within the valley was demolished to make way for the Millbrook Reservoir. Buildings at this location included a small private school and a hotel. The Milbrook Primary School was destroyed as part of the Ash Wednesday fires in 1983. A new school was subsequently built on the site It is now most renowned for the location of a large water reservoir, operated by the South Australian government for Adelaide's water supply. The reservoir remains as a pumping station point for the Kangaroo Creek reservoir. These people moved into the Cudlee Creek area when the reservoir works began in 1914.The former township of Chain of Ponds was removed due to the possible reservoir's impact upon the settlement.

Gorge Wildlife Park is a privately-owned sanctuary in the Australian state of South Australia. It is at Cudlee Creek in the Adelaide Hills and continues to be operated by the same family that established it in 1965. It is 30 km northeast of Adelaide. Situated on 14 acres of land, under shaded trees, paths meander among the largest privately owned collection of Australian animals. The park provides contact with a range of Australian native animals as well as exhibits of Australian and exotic animals and birds. A feature is the opportunity for visitors to hold a koala. Gorge is the only place in Australia that still keeps a greater rhea.Gorge Wildlife Park is involved in protection and preservation of some endangered species such as the brush-tailed rock-wallaby (petrogale penicillata).

Mount Torrens is a town in the eastern Adelaide Hills region of South Australia, 46 kilometres east-north-east of the state capital, Adelaide and 8 km east of Lobethal. It is located in the Adelaide Hills Council and the Mid Murray Council local government areas. At the 2006 census, Mount Torrens had a population of 337.

Millbrook Reservoir is a 16,000-megalitre artificial water storage reservoir in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia. It was built from 1914 to 1918 during World War I to control water flows in the upper River Torrens and provide gravity-fed water to Adelaide's eastern suburbs. It is named after the small town of Millbrook, demolished and removed during construction. During the 1970s, the nearby town of Chain of Ponds was also removed to prevent pollution of the reservoir's water.Millbrook covers 178 hectares (440 acres) behind a 288-metre (945 ft) clay-cored earth dam. It lies on Chain of Ponds creek, a tributary of the River Torrens. Water in the reservoir is piped from a weir near Gumeracha but it is also used to balance storage of River Murray water via the Mannum–Adelaide pipeline. It also captures approximately half of the Torrens' water flow.John Tippett named the town of Millbrook in the late 19th century after Millbrook in his native Cornwall.

Cromer is a locality in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia. It spans the boundary between the Adelaide Hills Council and the Barossa Council northwest of Mount Pleasant and includes the Cromer Conservation Park. Early farmers in the area included the Hannaford family. Cromer was the scene of an alluvial gold rush in 1870 at a site named Bonney's Flat on Hannaford Creek. (Bonney Flat Creek is 30 km away, west of Balhannah). The school opened as "Para Wirra" in 1898. It was renamed Cromer in 1899 and closed in 1950. The post office opened in 1910 and closed in 1944.
