Ardgay railway station is a railway station serving the village of Ardgay and its neighbour Bonar Bridge in the Highland council area of Scotland. The station is on the Far North Line, 57 miles 70 chains (93.1 km) from Inverness, between Tain and Culrain. ScotRail, who manage the station, operate all services.

Ardgay ard-GY (Scottish Gaelic: Àird Gaoith or Àird Ghaoithe) ["high wind"] is a small Scottish village on the south west shore of the Dornoch Firth, Sutherland and is 1 mile south from Bonar Bridge and lies at the entrance to Strathcarron, the valley of the River Carron and is at the mouth of the Kyle of Sutherland. In the Highland Council area, Ardgay is in Ward 1, the North, West and Central Sutherland ward. The Ardgay & District Community Council serves the area. Ardgay is also the postal town for the area covered by IV24, even although Bonar Bridge is a larger settlement and provides the Delivery Office for the IV24 local area.Ardgay is served by Ardgay railway station. The hamlet of Kincardine lies less than 1 mile south east along the A836 coast road. National Cycle Route 1 passes through Ardgay.

Kincardine (Scottish Gaelic: Cinn Chàrdainn) is a small hamlet in Sutherland, situated on the west end of the south shore of the Dornoch Firth. The village of Ardgay is less than 1 mile north west of Kincardine along the A836 coast road.

Bonar Bridge (Scottish Gaelic: Drochaid a' Bhanna, pronounced [ˈt̪ɾɔxɪtʲ ə ˈvan̪ˠə]) is a village on the north bank of the Kyle of Sutherland to the west and the Dornoch Firth to the east in the Parish of Creich in the Highland council area of Scotland. The Kyle of Sutherland ("the Kyle" for locals) is a river estuary of the Rivers Oykel, Cassley, Shin and Carron that all enter the Kyle above the bridge at Bonar. The estuary (downstream) and the rivers (upstream) separate Sutherland from Ross and Cromarty to the south, and the estuary opens into the Dornoch Firth to the east.

The Migdale Hoard is a group of early Bronze Age jewellery discovered by workmen blasting a granite knoll behind Bonar Bridge, Scotland, near what is known as "Tulloch Hill" in May 1900. It is named after the nearby Loch Migdale. Dating from about 2000-1150 BC, the artifacts are in the custody of the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. They include a bronze axe head, sets of bronze bangles and anklets, and a series of beautifully carved jet and cannel coal buttons that may well have adorned a Bronze Age jacket, bronze hair ornaments and fragments of an elaborate bronze headdress.

Ardchronie (Scottish Gaelic: Àird Chrònaidh) is a hamlet in the Highland Council area of Scotland. It lies on the south side of the Dornoch Firth, about 2 miles south of Bonar Bridge. Upper Ardchronie is on the hill above Ardchronie.

Invershin railway station is a railway station in the Highland council area of Scotland. The station is on the Far North Line, 61 miles 34 chains (98.9 km) from Inverness, between Culrain and Lairg. ScotRail, who manage the station, operate all services.

Invershin (Scottish Gaelic: Inbhir Sin) is a scattered village in the Parish of Creich, 6 miles (10 km) south of Lairg and 4 miles (6.4 km) north of Bonar Bridge in the south of Sutherland in the Scottish Highlands and is in the Scottish council area of Highland.Invershin is located close to the junction of the River Shin and the River Oykel. Lands of "Inverchyn" or "Inverchen" are mentioned in 13th century documents. The motte remains of Invershin Castle are located near Invershin.It is served by Invershin railway station, and is the location of the Shin Railway Viaduct which carries the Far North Line across the Kyle of Sutherland. In 2000, a footbridge was added to the northern side of the viaduct and is part of National Cycle Network Route 1.

The Kyle of Sutherland (Scottish Gaelic: An Caol Catach) is a river estuary that separates Sutherland from Ross-shire. It flows into the Dornoch Firth at Bonar Bridge, and is fed by the rivers Oykel, Shin, River Cassley and Carron. The downstream extent of the Kyle of Sutherland is the eponymous bridge at Bonar Bridge. The upstream end of 'the Kyle' as it is locally known, is the furthest inland extent of tidal water, which corresponds to 'the bailey bridge', beyond Rosehall. The Kyle did separate Sutherland and Ross-shire for centuries until 1975 when the old Scottish counties were abolished. The counties of Sutherland and Ross became districts of the Highland Region, with altered boundaries. As a result of this, the Kyle became wholly part of Sutherland, though most locals continue to refer to the original boundaries.

The Shin Railway Viaduct (also known as the Invershin Viaduct or Oykel Viaduct) is a railway viaduct that crosses the Kyle of Sutherland.The viaduct carries the Far North Line between Inverness and Wick and Thurso. Invershin railway station is at the north-eastern end of the viaduct, while Culrain railway station is a short distance to the south.
