Robgill Tower

Bonshaw Tower is an oblong tower house, probably dating from the mid-16th century, one mile south of Kirtlebridge, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, above the Kirtle Water. It is adjacent to a 19th-century mansion. The tower was one of a number of structures built along the Scottish border in the 1500s as protection against incursions by the English.

Kirtlebridge is a village in Dumfries and Galloway, southern Scotland. It is located 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) north-east of Annan, 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) north-west of Kirkpatrick-Fleming, and 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) south of Eaglesfield. The village is located where the A74(M) motorway and the West Coast Main Line railway cross the Kirtle Water. It has one pub, the Village Inn, which has five letting rooms for B&B. It is dog friendly. Evening bar meals are available. There is a Quiz Night every other Monday. The pub is closed on Wednesdays, other days the pub opens at 7.00pm. Kirtlebridge railway station on the main line formerly served the village, and a nearby junction marked the start of the Solway Junction Railway to Annan. The Kirtlebridge rail crash occurred at the station on 2 October 1872, and resulted in 12 deaths.Not far from the village is Bonshaw Tower and its more recent adjoining house. Bruce's Cave or the Dunskellie Grotto is a relatively small and mainly artificial cave created in the red sandstone cliffs about 9 metres above the Kirtle Water at Cove, Kirkpatrick-Fleming, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. It has been associated with Robert the Bruce and the famous incident with the spider struggling to build its web.

Eaglesfield is a village in south east Dumfriesshire in the local authority area of Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland.

Kirtlebridge railway station was a station which served the rural area around Kirtlebridge and Eaglesfield, north of Annan in Dumfriesshire, Scotland; the location is now within the area of Dumfries and Galloway unitary council. The station was served by local trains on the Caledonian Railway main line between Carlisle and Glasgow, now the West Coast Main Line, and the station was the junction for the Solway Junction Railway. The nearest station for Kirtlebridge is now at Lockerbie.

The Kirtlebridge rail crash took place in 1872 at Kirtlebridge railway station in Dumfriesshire. An express passenger train ran into a goods train that was shunting; 11 people lost their lives immediately, and one further person succumbed later. The cause was a failure to communicate between the station master in charge of the shunting operation, and the signalman. There was not full interlocking of the points, and the block system of signalling was not in use.The location was very close to the point where the present-day A74(M) road crosses the line.

Kirkpatrick railway station was a station which served the rural area around Kirkpatrick Fleming, north of Gretna in the Scottish county of Dumfries and Galloway. It was served by local trains on what is now known as the West Coast Main Line. The nearest station for Kirkpatrick Fleming is now at Gretna Green.

Kirkpatrick-Fleming (Scottish Gaelic: Cill Phàdraig) is a village and civil parish in Dumfries and Galloway, south-west Scotland. It is located between the Kirtle Water and the A74(M) motorway, the Solway Firth, and the Cumbrian hills are visible from the village. Kirkpatrick-Fleming is 5 miles (8 km) east of Annan, 21.2 miles (34 km) east of Dumfries, 3.4 miles (5 km) north-west of Gretna and 16.4 miles (26 km) north-west of Carlisle.

Eastriggs railway station was a railway station in Dumfries and Galloway between Annan and Gretna. Dumfries and Galloway Council are trying to find funding to reopen the station.

Eastriggs is a small village located in Dumfries and Galloway in the south of Scotland, the village is located around 2 mi (3.2 km) north of the mud and sandbanks of the channel of the River Eden, which extends west into the Solway Firth. Travelling by road Eastriggs is 3 miles (5 kilometres) to the east of Annan, 19 miles (31 kilometres) to the east of Dumfries, 5 miles (8 kilometres) to the west of Gretna, 17.7 miles (28 kilometres) to the west of Carlisle and 83.1 miles (134 kilometres) to the south of Edinburgh. The B721 road, runs through Eastriggs and other neighbouring towns and villages connecting to the nearby A75.

Chapelcross nuclear power station is a former Magnox nuclear power station undergoing decommissioning. It is located in Annan in Dumfries and Galloway in southwest Scotland, and was in operation from 1959 to 2004. It was the sister plant to the Calder Hall nuclear power station plant in Cumbria, England; both were commissioned and originally operated by the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority. The primary purpose of both plants was to produce weapons-grade plutonium for the UK's nuclear weapons programme, but they also generated electrical power for the National Grid. Later in the reactors' lifecycle, as the UK slowed the development of the nuclear deterrent as the cold war came to a close, power production became the primary goal of reactor operation. The site is being decommissioned by Nuclear Decommissioning Authority subsidiary Magnox Ltd. The station's four cooling towers were demolished in 2007. The reactors are spent-fuel free and are currently undergoing dismantlement of primary loop equipment such as heat exchangers and hot gas ducts. Once complete, the reactors will enter a care and maintenance stage to allow radiation levels to decline before the reactors themselves are demolished.

Broadlea henge (grid reference NY 21946 74651) is a Neolithic or Bronze Age monument in the parish of Middlebie, Dumfries and Galloway. It is one of very few henge monuments in southern Scotland. The only other well preserved site is the considerably smaller Pict's Knowe near Dumfries. While Pict's Knowe is a single entrance, Class I henge, Broadlea has two entrances, making it a Class II henge. It measures 50m by 45m inside its ditch, which is as wide as 10m. The banks have been flattened over time but still rise in parts to around four feet high.The henge overlooks the Mein Water valley; the Roman fort of Birrens is located on the opposite side of the valley. The aerial photographs which identified the henge also identified a Roman marching camp, whose ditch passes through the north-west entrance of the henge and out through the south-east entrance.The monument is scheduled as "Birrens to Broadlee,Roman forts & camps & henge".
