Tipton Green

The Battle of Tipton Green was an indecisive engagement fought during the First English Civil War in the area of Tipton Green, about one mile from Dudley Castle on 12 June 1644. The battle occurred when Royalist troops arrived from Worcester to break the Earl of Denbigh's siege of the castle. The battle itself was indecisive, as both sides withdrew from conflict. This granted the Royalists a tactical victory, as they forced the Parliamentarians to lift the siege.

The Elite Church, formerly the Church of St Martin and St Paul, is a church in Tipton, West Midlands, England. The church, built in 1837, is Grade II listed.

Victoria Park is a public park situated in Tipton, West Midlands (formerly Staffordshire), England. It is Grade II listed with the National Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.It was opened on 29 July 1901 and named in honour of Queen Victoria, who had died in January of that year. 860 people in the Tipton area had signed a petition in 1893 for the development of a town park, and after sufficient donations and funding had been made available, development of the park was underway during 1899, although it was not fully complete until just after the official opening.[1] It was situated on Randalls Lane, Tipton Green, which was promptly renamed Victoria Road. Substantial housing development took place in the vicinity over the next 40 years and most of the houses are still in existence. The park includes a large lake, tennis courts, children's play area and a Cenotaph which was erected in 1921 in memory of the Tipton men who fallen in the Great War. The names of the Second World War dead were added after that conflict ended in 1945. A park keeper's bungalow was erected in the 1930s but had fallen into disuse by 1990, finally being demolished in 2005. Tipton Harriers hold a 5k road race every November in the park.

Tipton railway station is located in the industrial town of Tipton in the borough of Sandwell, West Midlands, England and was known as Tipton Owen Street until 1968. It is situated on the West Coast Main Line. The station is operated by West Midlands Railway, which also provides all services. At the southern end of the station, there was a level crossing, though this was closed in January 2010 on the opening of a relief road which undercuts the railway. The station was closed in early 2010 for refurbishment which allowed the platforms to be extended to accommodate longer trains than previously. The redevelopment also included new waiting areas, easier access to the station, increased car park size, new subway, improved security and a new bus interchange.

Tipton is an industrial town in the Metropolitan Borough of Sandwell in the West Midlands County in England. It had a population of 38,777 at the 2011 UK Census. It is located northwest of Birmingham and southeast of Wolverhampton. It is also contiguous with nearby towns of Darlaston, Dudley, Wednesbury and Bilston. Historically within Staffordshire and briefly Worcestershire. It is located between both Wolverhampton and Birmingham. It incorporates the surrounding villages and suburbs of Tipton Green, Ocker Hill, Dudley Port, Horseley Heath and Great Bridge. Tipton was an urban district until 1938, when it became a municipal borough. Much of the Borough of Tipton was transferred into West Bromwich County Borough in 1966, but parts of the old borough were absorbed into an expanded Dudley borough and the newly created County Borough of Warley. Along with the rest of West Bromwich and Warley, Tipton was moved into the Sandwell Metropolitan Borough in 1974.

The Boat Gauging House is a building in Tipton, West Midlands, England. It is situated by the Main Line of the Birmingham Canal Navigations, and was used for calibrating new canal boats in order later to ascertain the weight of cargo carried. It is a Grade II listed building.

St. James's School opened in the Eve Hill area of Dudley in 1842 for pupils aged 5–11. In 1989–1990 it was demolished, then rebuilt at the Black Country Living Museum.

The Black Country Living Museum Pawnbrokers Shop is a recreation of a pawnbroker's at the Black Country Living Museum. It is one of a pair of cottages built in the 1840s, from School Lane in Himley. The pair of cottages from School Lane in Himley originally operated as a corner shop. The setting of the display was designed to represent a small scale business. The shop takes its name from a well known Black Country pawnbroker, Joseph Wiltshire, who owned shops in Great Bridge, Wolverhampton and Carter's Green in West Bromwich. The exhibition combines pawnbroking with retail, as did many pawnbroking businesses in the 19th century. In the museum's reconstruction the unredeemed goods and other stock are sold in the front room, while pawning of goods was done in the 'pledge room' at the back.The shop window of the Pawnbroker's gives an example of the types of goods that customers would 'pledge'. The display includes shoes, clothes, furs, musical instruments, children's toys and a set of false teeth.

Tibbington is a residential area of Tipton, a town in the West Midlands of England. It takes its name from the original 11th-century name of Tipton – Tibbingtone. The Tibbington estate was mostly constructed during the 1920s and 1930s as one of Tipton UDC's first major council housing developments which were aimed at people being rehoused by slum clearances. This included Tipton's 2,000th council house on Central Avenue, which was opened on 21 December 1936 and followed a few months later by the area's 2,500th council house, also on the estate.The estate's main through route is Central Avenue, which links Princes End High Street to Locarno Road, and is now a bus route. Nearly 200 new houses were added to the estate in the 1950s with the development of Oval Road. It is situated within the Princes End council ward, which is one of the most deprived parts of Sandwell. Princes End's problems are particularly highlighted on the Tibbington estate, where a high percentage of residents are unemployed and living on low incomes. Crime is a cause for serious concern in the area; with racism and anti-social behaviour being particularly high profile issues.A private housing development was built on the south side of the estate in the 1970s following the infilling of a canal and the demolition of an aqueduct. A section of houses in Laburnum Road, Chestnut Avenue, Fern Avenue and Laurel Road were demolished in 2007 and later redeveloped with a small public park and new housing. All of Elm Crescent and several houses in Central Avenue were demolished in the early 1980s due to mining subsidence and the site was redeveloped as Walker Grange, a residential home for elderly people which was opened on 27 February 1992.

The Black Country Living Museum (formerly the Black Country Museum) is an open-air museum of rebuilt historic buildings in Dudley, West Midlands, England. It is located in the centre of the Black Country, 10 miles west of Birmingham. The museum occupies 10.5 hectares (26 acres) of former industrial land partly reclaimed from a former railway goods yard, disused lime kilns, canal arm and former coal pits. The museum opened to the public in 1978, and has since added over 50 shops, houses and other industrial buildings from around the metropolitan boroughs of Dudley, Sandwell and Walsall and the City of Wolverhampton (collectively known as the Black Country); mainly in a specially built village. Most buildings were relocated from their original sites to form a base from where demonstrators portray life spanning 300 years of history, with a focus on 1850–1950. The museum continues to evolve, as further buildings and other exhibits are added.
