Stathatos Mansion

The Nicholas P. Goulandris Foundation - Museum of Cycladic Art is a museum of Athens. It houses a notable collection of artifacts of Cycladic art. The museum was founded in 1986 in order to house the collection of Cycladic and Ancient Greek art belonging to Nicholas and Dolly Goulandris. Starting in the early 1960s, the couple collected Greek antiquities, with special interest in the prehistoric art from the Cyclades islands of the Aegean Sea. The Museum's main building, erected in the centre of Athens in 1985, was designed by the Greek architect Ioannis Vikelas. In 1991, the Museum acquired a new wing, the neo-classical Stathatos Mansion at the corner of Vassilissis Sofias Avenue and Herodotou Street. The museum has housed temporary exhibitions of some of the most important Greek and international modern and contemporary artists. The Embassy of Germany in Athens is the chief diplomatic mission of Germany in Greece. It is located in Kolonaki, one of the most prestigious neighbourhoods in central Athens. The current German Ambassador to Greece is Dr. Ernst Reichel.Germany also maintains a Consulate-General in Thessaloniki, as well as several honorary consuls across Greece.

The Lyceum (Ancient Greek: Λύκειον, romanized: Lykeion) was a temple dedicated to Apollo Lyceus ("Apollo the wolf-god"). It was best known for the Peripatetic school of philosophy founded there by Aristotle in 334 BC. Aristotle fled Athens in 323 BC, and the university continued to function after his lifetime under a series of leaders until the Roman general Sulla destroyed it during his assault on Athens in 86 BC.The remains of the Lyceum were discovered in modern Athens in 1996 in a park behind the Hellenic Parliament.

The Byzantine and Christian Museum (Greek: Βυζαντινό και Χριστιανικό Μουσείο) is situated at Vassilissis Sofias Avenue in Athens, Greece. It was founded in 1914, and houses more than 25,000 exhibits with rare collections of pictures, scriptures, frescoes, pottery, fabrics, manuscripts, and copies of artifacts from the 3rd century AD to the Late Middle Ages. It is one of the most important museums in the world in Byzantine Art. In June 2004, in time for its 90th anniversary and the 2004 Athens Olympics, the museum reopened to the public after an extensive renovation and the addition of another wing.

The Athens Conservatoire (Greek: Ωδείον Αθηνών, romanized: Odeíon Athinón) is the oldest educational institution for the performing arts in modern Greece. It was founded in 1871 by the non-profit organization Music and Drama Association.

Kolonaki Square (Greek: Πλατεία Κολωνακίου, pronounced [plaˈti.a kolonaˈci.u]) is located in central Athens, Greece. Kolonaki itself is named after the small ancient column in the center of the square; the modern official name of this square is Plateia Filikis Etaireias (Πλατεία Φιλικής Εταιρείας) named for the "Friendly Society" that supported Greek independence. Originally, Kolonaki Square was just an area of open ground (around 1890) containing the column, and was only later planted with trees and designated as a square in about 1895–1900. The square is one block west of Vassilissis Sofias Avenue and is entered by Kanari Street on the southwest, Koumbari Street to the southeast, Kapsali Street to the east, Patriarchou Ioakeim Street to the north, Anagnostopoulou street to the northwest and Tsakalof and Skoufa streets to the west. In the center of the square there is a small ancient column (the square and district are named for the "little column"). This a well-known spot for drinking coffee and people watching.

The Benaki Museum, established and endowed in 1930 by Antonis Benakis in memory of his father Emmanuel Benakis, is housed in the Benakis family mansion in downtown Athens, Greece. The museum houses Greek works of art from the prehistorical to the modern times, an extensive collection of Asian art, hosts periodic exhibitions and maintains a state-of-the-art restoration and conservation workshop. Although the museum initially housed a collection that included Islamic art, Chinese porcelain and exhibits on toys, its 2000 re-opening led to the creation of satellite museums that focused on specific collections, allowing the main museum to focus on Greek culture over the span of the country's history. This Museum in Athens houses over 100,000 artifacts from Greek history and showcases the many eras, civilizations and cultures which have influenced the development of Greece. Spread over a number of locations, the museum ranks among Greece’s foremost cultural institutions.

Kolonaki (Greek: Κολωνάκι, pronounced [koloˈnaci]), literally "Little Column", is an upscale neighborhood in central Athens, Greece. It is located on the southern slopes of Lycabettus hill. Its name derives from the two metre column (located in Kolonaki Square) that defined the area even before the area's urbanization.

Mount Lycabettus (), also known as Lycabettos, Lykabettos or Lykavittos (Greek: Λυκαβηττός, pronounced [likaviˈtos]), is a Cretaceous limestone hill in the Greek capital Athens. At 277 meters (908 feet) above sea level, its summit is the highest point in Central Athens and pine trees cover its base. The name also refers to the residential neighbourhood immediately below the east of the hill. The hill is a tourist destination and can be ascended by the Lycabettus Funicular, a funicular railway which climbs the hill from a lower terminus at Kolonaki (The railway station can be found at Aristippou street). At its two peaks are the 19th century Chapel of St. George, a theatre, and a restaurant.

The Athens War Museum (Greek: Πολεμικό Μουσείο Αθήνας), established on July 18, 1975, is the museum of the Greek Armed Forces. Its purpose is the exhibition of weapon artifacts and the relevant research in the history of war. It covers the history of war in all ages. The museums' collections include the collection of the Greek Army, with artifacts from other civilizations such as Ancient China and Ancient Japan. In 1964, the Hellenic State decided to found the War Museum, wishing to honor all those who fought for Greece and its freedom. The design of the museum was undertaken by a team of distinguished scientists, headed by Professor Thoukidides Valentis of the National Technical University of Athens (N.T.U.A). On July 18, 1975, the President of the Hellenic Republic H.E. Constantine Tsatsos and the Minister of National Defense Evangelos Averoff-Tositsas inaugurated the museum. Its various activities include the publication of books, the establishment and maintenance of monuments and memorials and the aid to services and agencies all over Greece. The Museum's exhibition areas are distributed over four levels (floors) and present images of Greek history from antiquity to the present. The museum's centerpieces are weaponry from wars in which Greece was involved. The War Museum has established Museum Branches at Nauplion, Peloponnese (1988), Chania, Crete (1995), Tripoli, Peloponnese (1997) and Thessaloniki (2000). After building the Hellenic Air Force Museum, some airplanes were brought to this museum.

Herodou Attikou Street or Irodou Attikou Street (Greek: Οδός Ηρώδου Αττικού, pronounced [oˈðos iˈroðu atiˈku]) is located east of downtown Athens and is adjacent to the National Garden of Athens. The street is named after the ancient Athenian rhetorician, magnate and major benefactor of the Roman era, Herodes Atticus as its direction is towards Panathenaic Stadium, at the east hill of which (nowadays Pangrati) his mausoleum was found. The tree-lined one-way street runs from north (Vasilissis Sofias Avenue) to south (Vasileos Konstantinou Avenue) connecting the districts of Kolonaki and Pangrati. It is, by far, the most expensive piece of housing real estate in Greece and one of the most expensive in Europe. The five-block-long eastern side of the street is lined with luxurious apartments and mansions, foremost among them the Presidential Palace, the official workplace and residence of the President of the Hellenic Republic, and the Maximos Mansion (Μέγαρο Μαξίμου, Megaro Maximou), the official workplace of the Prime Minister. Kolonaki, a shopping district, lies immediately to the north, and Pangrati, a residential district, to the south, the National Gardens to the west and the Panathenaic Stadium to the southeast. The barracks of the Presidential Guard are the only buildings on the western (National Garden) side of the street. The street is heavily guarded by police (both uniformed and plainclothes) round the clock.

The Maximos Mansion (Greek: Μέγαρο Μαξίμου, Mégaro Maxímou) has been the official seat and residence of the Prime Minister of Greece since 1982. It is located in downtown Athens, Greece, near Syntagma Square.
