Great Notley

White Court is a residential housing estate in the village of Great Notley, south west of Braintree, Essex, England, built on the site of the old Oaklands estate, which was used as an American army hospital during World War II. The estate also includes White Court Primary School.

Cuckoo Wood is a 2.5 hectare Local Nature Reserve in Braintree in Essex. It is owned by Braintree District Council and managed by Essex County Council as an educational resource.The site has amenity grassland, meadows, woods, lakes, ponds, ditches and hedgerows. It has some locally rare species, and is described by Natural England as a very good habitat for fungi, due to a large amount of dead wood.The site is not open to the public.

Hoppit Mead is a 9.2 hectare Local Nature Reserve in Braintree in Essex. It is owned and managed by Braintree District Council.This linear site has formal park areas, wildflower meadows, scrub, wet woodland and coppice. The River Brain runs through it. The seventeenth century naturalist John Ray made pioneering observations of wild blackcurrant bushes in the wet woodland.There is access to the north-east corner at the junction of Godlings Way and Notley Road, and to the western end from London Road.

Young's End is a hamlet in the Braintree district of Essex, England. The population of the hamlet is included in the civil parish of Black Notley. It is located along the former A131 road between Great Notley and Great Leighs.

Notley High School & Braintree Sixth Form is situated in Braintree in Essex, England. The school was built in the early 1970s. Notley High School was an 11-18 school with sixth form until 1992, when the sixth was closed and all sixth form pupils went to the new Braintree Tertiary College. It was then for ages 11–16 school until September 2009, when Braintree Sixth Form opened for 16- to 19-year-old students. In August 2009, the school became an academy. Notley High School is the lead partner in the Braintree Sixth Form, which is a purpose-built post-16 provision for the youth of Braintree. It opened in September 2009 admitting students from Notley High School and other local schools. Recent Ofsted visits reported the school as “inadequate”.

The William Julien Courtauld Hospital was a health facility in London Road, Braintree, Essex. It was managed by Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust.

Braintree Sixth Form is a school Sixth Form centre for educating 16- to 19-year-olds in Braintree, Essex, England. It is located approximately 15 miles east of Stansted Airport in north Essex. Up until 1981 post 16 education in Braintree took place in Sixth Forms located in each of the town's schools. In 1981 Essex County Council closed the separate Sixth Forms at the Schools in Braintree and moved post 16 education to a new purpose-built FE (Further Education) college, Braintree College, later becoming part of the Colchester Institute. The opening of Braintree Sixth Form in 2009 marked a return to school-based Sixth Form education in Braintree.

The Warner Textile Archive is a UK-based collection of textiles, designs and paper records operated by Braintree District Museum Trust. It opened in 1993 and is the second largest collection of publicly-owned textiles in the UK (after the Victoria & Albert Museum).Based in Braintree, Essex the Archive consists of some 100,000 items representing the creative and commercial legacy of Warner & Sons, a leading textile manufacturer that operated from Braintree throughout much of the twentieth century.The Warner Textile Archive is housed in part of the original mill building at Silks Way, Braintree, and maintains a publicly accessible gallery along with rotating public exhibitions.Warner & Sons was a leading manufacturer of silk and velvet, as well as producing a wide range of other woven fabrics. Notably, it created the Queen's coronation robes and silk hangings used in Westminster Abbey during the coronation ceremony. Representing two centuries of UK textile manufacturing history, the archive features work by artists/designers such as Augustus Pugin, William Morris, Vanessa Bell, Marianne Straub, Hans Tisdall, Lynton Lamb and Graham Sutherland. The Warner archive was conserved for many years by the wallpaper and fabric company Walker Greenbank which sold the collection to Braintree in 2004.

Braintree is a town in Essex, England. The principal settlement of Braintree District, it is located 10 miles (16 km) northeast of Chelmsford, 35 miles (56 km) northwest of Southend-on-Sea, and 15 miles (24 km) west of Colchester. According to the 2021 Census, the town had a population of 43,492, while the urban area, which includes Great Notley, Rayne, Tye Green and High Garrett, had a population of 55,792.Braintree has grown contiguously with several surrounding settlements. The original settlement and parish of Braintree lay on the River Brain and was bounded on the north by Stane Street, the Roman road from Braughing to Colchester. North of that road was the parish of Bocking. The two parishes were united in 1934 as the parish and urban district of Braintree and Bocking, which was subsequently abolished in 1974 when the modern Braintree District was created. Several local organisations still include "Braintree and Bocking" in their names.Braintree is bypassed by the modern-day A120 and A131 roads, while trains serve two stations in the town, at the end of the Braintree Branch Line. Braintree is twinned with Pierrefitte-sur-Seine, France, and gives its name to the towns of Braintree, Massachusetts and Braintree, Vermont, in the United States.

Rayne is a village of about 2,300 residents in the Braintree district of Essex in the East of England. It lies on the Roman road called Stane Street, about two miles (3 km) to the west of Braintree, which is the nearest town. It used to be a more important settlement than Braintree in Norman times, although this has not been the case for a long time now. Rayne has a playing field, a pub called The Swan, a village hall that overlooks the playing field, All Saints' church, a war memorial, a stream called Pod's Brook, and a small airfield. There are also the old manor house of Rayne Hall, and Old Hall; a previous Rectory. Rayne Hall was for a long time the home of the Capel family, who became Earls of Essex. In mediaeval times, the Church was known for healing miracles: it was said that infertile women visiting the church were later able to conceive. A number of the churchyard memorials are made of cast iron: these were manufactured at the former foundry in The Street at around the end of the nineteenth century using a common mould into which individual letters were inserted to spell out the details.The church building consists of the Tudor tower, built in 1510, a Nave (an 1840 construction, replacing a Norman building from 1199 and said to be unsafe) and a Sanctuary and Vestry, added in 1914. The earliest recorded Rector is Ralph de Fremingham, from 1260.Further west along the main road ("The Street"), there are: an Indian restaurant, another pub, the Welsh Princess, the site of the former Rayne Iron foundry (redeveloped for housing and offices in 2009), the Post Office stores, and what was a pub called The Cock, now renovated and operating as a bar and restaurant called 47 The Street. The road leads to the town of Great Dunmow. Station Road leads down to the former Rayne railway station, which is now the Rayne Station Centre of the Flitch Way Country Park, a linear park stretching along the former trackbed of the railway. This is also now National Cycle Network route No. 16. Rayne, which is located about 40 miles (64 km) north-east of London, is twinned with Verberie which is about 40 miles (64 km) north-east of Paris in the French region of Picardy, which coincidentally is twinned with the County of Essex. On 12 July 2006, Rayne was named Essex Village of the Year, in a competition organised annually by Rural Community Council of Essex (RCCE) and sponsored by Calor. Rayne also won first, the regional, and then national, Calor Village of the Year Competition 2006/7 in the ITC Category.
