The 1982 Avon Championships of Chicago was a women's tennis tournament played on indoor carpet courts at the Rosemont Horizon in Chicago, Illinois in the United States that was part of the 1982 Avon Championships Circuit. It was the 11th edition of the tournament and was held from January 25 through January 31, 1982. First-seeded Martina Navratilova won the singles title and earned $30,000 first-prize money.

Allstate Arena is a multi-purpose arena in Rosemont, Illinois, United States. It is located near the intersection of Mannheim Road and Interstate 90, adjacent to the city limits of Chicago and O'Hare International Airport. The facility opened in 1980 as the Rosemont Horizon and seats 17,500 for basketball and 16,692 for ice hockey. The arena is home to the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League (AHL) and has served as the home arena for a number of other professional and collegiate teams, most notably the DePaul Blue Demons from 1980 through 2017.

Maine West High School, also known as Maine West, MWHS, and officially known as Maine Township High School West, is a public four-year high school located in Des Plaines, Illinois, a northwest suburb of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. It is part of Maine Township High School District 207, which also includes Maine East High School and Maine South High School. Maine Township High School West serves most of Des Plaines and a portion of Rosemont.

Des Plaines is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. Per the 2020 census, the population was 60,675. The city is a suburb of Chicago and is located just north of O'Hare International Airport. It is situated on and is named after the Des Plaines River, which runs through the city just east of its downtown area.

The 928th Airlift Wing is an inactive United States Air Force Reserve unit. It was last active with the Twenty-Second Air Force at O'Hare Air Reserve Station, Illinois, where it was inactivated on 1 July 1997.

The 100 gecs tree (also nicknamed Gecca) is a ponderosa pine located in Des Plaines, Illinois, in the United States. It was featured in the cover art for the 2019 album 1000 gecs by the American musical duo 100 gecs and has since become a popular attraction for fans.

O'Hare Transfer is a commuter railroad station along Metra's North Central Service that serves Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. The station is 18.6 miles (29.9 km) away from Union Station, the southern terminus of the line. As of 2018, O'Hare Transfer is the 183rd busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 113 weekday boardings. The station is located at the dead end of Zemke Boulevard east of Mannheim Road (US 12/US 45) outside the northeast corner of the airport's Multi-Modal Facility (rental car/parking lot). A free, on-demand shuttle bus connects the railroad station to the Airport Transit System people mover at an elevated boarding station in Economy Parking Lot E. Two Pace bus routes also stop curbside at the lower level of the ATS station. The free ride on the people mover provides a connection to all four of the airline terminals. Owing to the weekday only operation and limited frequency offered by the North Central Service, the station is not currently a significant means of access for travelers to O'Hare. However, a single outbound North Central Service train operates weekday limited-stop service from Union Station to the O'Hare Transfer station with a scheduled 30-minute travel time. All trains are scheduled to stop at the inside (westernmost) platform, but occasionally an announcement will be made over the public address system that a train will be stopping on the outside (easternmost) platform.

Willows Academy is an all-girls private school in Des Plaines, Illinois, United States, with its religious education under the direction of Opus Dei. The school is divided into the Middle School (6-8) and High School (9-12). There are approximately 250 students enrolled in grades 6-12, with about 25 students per middle school class and 40 students per high school class. The original school was located on Vernon Avenue in Glencoe, IL. The second location was in Niles, IL. The school is a member of the Illinois High School Association and the Independent Schools' League. The Academy was named one of the best 50 Catholic secondary schools in the nation in 2008 and is on the 2008 Catholic High School Honor Roll.

O'Hare, located on the far north side of Chicago, is one of the city's 77 community areas. O'Hare International Airport is located within the boundaries of this community area. This community area is the only one that extends outside Cook County; the western edge (an area comprising the southwest part of the airport) is in DuPage County. The area is a transportation hub containing O'Hare International Airport as well as major roads such as Interstate 90, its auxiliary Interstate 190, Interstate 294, Illinois Route 72, Illinois Route 171, U.S. Route 12 and U.S. Route 45. This allows the O'Hare neighborhood, combined with the nearby suburb of Rosemont, to work as an edge city.

The Gas Technology Institute is an American non-profit research and development organization which develops, demonstrates, and licenses new energy technologies for private and public clients, with a particular focus on the natural gas industry. GTI is located in Des Plaines, Illinois.

First Congregational Church is a historic Congregational church at 766 Graceland Avenue in Des Plaines, Illinois. The church's congregation formed in 1869 and built its first church in the early 1870s. As Des Plaines expanded in the 1920s, the congregation outgrew its original church, and it had the current church building constructed in 1929. The firm of Pond & Pond, Martin and Lloyd gave the church an Arts and Crafts design; it is one of the few buildings in Des Plaines designed by a major architecture firm. The church's design includes a brick and limestone exterior with an emphasis on geometric patterns, a gable front entrance flanked by square towers, and an arched window divided by buttresses above the entrance. Its sanctuary houses a stained glass window designed by Edgar Miller which depicts events in the life of Christ.The church was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 27, 2019.

The Des Plaines Mall was a 185,000 square foot (17,200 m2) shopping mall in downtown Des Plaines, Illinois. It was designed by J.R. Gottlieb & Co. The architect was Erickson and Stevens, Inc. Construction began June 1, 1976. It opened October 6, 1977. Planning for the mall began in 1972, with the Des Plaines Mall Corporation formed in 1973. The mall opened October 6, 1977. Its original tennants included Spiegler's, Radio Shack, Hallmark Cards and the Oui Boutique. It was built for about $12 million. Shoppers and employees parked at the nearby Behrel Parking Deck. The intent was to demolish buildings between the mall and the deck, most notably the abonded Spiegler's store, and build a walkway between the two locations. In 1979 the mall added an area on the lower level called Olde Center Street, a turn-of-the-century theme arcade. In 1995 the city took control of the mall with the intent of condemning the mall. Its last day of business was October 31, 1996.
