Belmont Academy (Scottish Gaelic: Àrd-sgoil Bhelmont) is the largest secondary school in Ayr. The Academy is non-denominational and state-run by South Ayrshire Council. In 2008 the school transferred from the 48-year-old campus into a new building, which was opened to pupils in August 2008.

The Diocese of Galloway (Latin: Dioecesis Candidae Casae o Gallovidianus) is a Latin Church ecclesiastical territory or diocese of the Catholic Church in Scotland. The pre-Reformation Diocese of Galloway, founded by Ninian in the fifth century, had broken allegiance with Rome in 1560, and disappeared in 1689 in the (official) Church of Scotland but continued in the Episcopal Church of Scotland. The modern Roman Catholic diocese incorporates the local authority areas of Dumfries and Galloway, South Ayrshire, East Ayrshire and parts of North Ayrshire, (Cumbrae). The bishop's cathedra is at St Margaret's Cathedral, Ayr. The diocese was re-established by the Catholic Church on 4 March 1878, with its cathedral in Dumfries and its territory covering the sparse and rural counties of Dumfriesshire, Kirkcudbrightshire, Wigtownshire and parts of Ayrshire. Following the reorganisation of the Archdiocese of Glasgow in 1947, parishes to the north of Galloway were transferred to it from Glasgow, creating a significant population centre for the first time around the town of Ayr. In response to this development Bishop McGee moved his residence from Dumfries to Ayr, and following a catastrophic fire at St Andrew's Cathedral in May 1962, it was decided that the Good Shepherd Church, Ayr should also become the diocesan cathedral. The third and present cathedral, following the closure of Good Shepherd Cathedral in May 2007, is St Margaret's Cathedral in Ayr. The eighth and most recent bishop of the diocese was William Nolan, since 2022 the Archbishop of Glasgow.

West Sound (Ayrshire) was an independent local radio station based in Ayr, Scotland, originally independent, but the licence is now owned and operated by Bauer, laterally it was part of the Scottish Greatest Hits brand of stations. It broadcast to Ayrshire from an AM transmitter close to Symington on 1035Khz and on FM from the Darvel transmitter on 96.7MHz, although it originally launched on 96.2MHz. The station launched on 16 October 1981 Broadcasting initially from 7am to 8pm. At the start and end of broadcasting each day, a specially composed station theme called Mystic Waters was played. As of December 2022, the station had a weekly audience of 69,000 listeners according to RAJAR.The station rebranded from West Sound to Greatest Hits Radio Ayrshire on 3 April 2023. On 12 November 2023, it was announced that the station would cease broadcasting on medium wave before the end of the year, but would continue on DAB.

Ayr Ice Rink was an ice arena in Ayr, Scotland that opened in 1939 and was used for ice skating, ice hockey and curling. The rink was notable as being the home of professional ice hockey clubs Ayr Raiders and Ayr Bruins.The building was located at 21 Beresford Terrace on the former site of Beresford Park, home of Ayr Parkhouse Football Club. Ayr Ice Rink Ltd purchased the land from London Midland and Scottish Railway in 1938 to build the rink.The property was demolished in 1972 to make way for a Safeway supermarket and today the site is occupied by two retail stores and carpark.A new ice rink was built at Limekiln Road on the site of the defunct Tams Brig Stadium and is owned by Ayr Curling Club. It is predominantly used for curling but figure skating and recreational ice hockey.

Beresford Park was a former football stadium in town of Ayr in Scotland. The ground was the former home of Scottish Football League teams Ayr FC and Ayr Parkhouse before their merger to form Ayr United FC. The ground was located in the centre of the town, adjacent to Burns statue square, where the current Odeon cinema stands. Parkhouse street and Beresford Terrace now stand on the former site of the stadium named after Ayr Parkhouse FC, former tenants of the ground and the ground itself respectively.

On Monday 25 September 2023, at 5:37pm, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were first alerted to a fire at the derelict Ayr Station Hotel building, a Category B Listed Building next to Ayr railway station in Ayr, a town on the west coast of Scotland. Three arrests were made, one 13-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy were arrested shortly after the fire, with a third, another 13-year-old boy, being arrested by Police Scotland on Wednesday 27 September.Crews from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service returned to the scene on 2 October 2023, following reports of a second fire.

Ayr railway station serves the town of Ayr in South Ayrshire, Scotland. It is situated in Smith Street, off Burns Statue Square. The station, which is managed by ScotRail, is on the Ayrshire Coast Line, 41+1⁄2 miles (66.8 km) south-west of Glasgow Central.

Ayr ( AIR; Scots: Ayr; Scottish Gaelic: Inbhir Àir, "Mouth of the River Ayr") is a town situated on the southwest coast of Scotland. A former royal burgh, today it is the administrative centre of the South Ayrshire Council, and the historic county town of Ayrshire. With a population of 46,982, Ayr is the 15th largest settlement in Scotland and second largest town in Ayrshire by population. The town is contiguous with the smaller town of Prestwick to the north. Ayr was established as a Royal Burgh in 1205 and is the county town of Ayrshire. It served as Ayrshire's central marketplace and harbour throughout the medieval period and was a well-known port during the early modern period. On the southern bank of the River Ayr sits the ramparts of a citadel constructed by Oliver Cromwell's men during the mid-17th century. Towards the south of the town is the birthplace of Scottish poet Robert Burns in the suburb of Alloway. Ayr has been a popular tourist resort since the expansion of the railway in 1840 owing to the town's fine beach and its links to golfing and Robert Burns. Ayr is one of the largest retail centres in the south of Scotland and was recognised as the second healthiest town centre in the United Kingdom by the Royal Society for Public Health in 2014. Ayr has hosted the Scottish Grand National horseracing steeplechase annually since 1965 and the Scottish International Airshow annually since 2014. The town also accommodates the headquarters of the Ayr Advertiser and Ayrshire Post newspapers.

Ayr Central is covered shopping centre in Ayr, Scotland. Built on a brown field site on Kyle Street, which had been abandoned for fifteen years, the development cost £75 million. It was opened ahead of schedule in March 2007, with the opening of the first Debenhams store in Ayrshire. The shopping centre has an underground car parking facility with space for 450 cars with stairs up to the main level. A large number of shops have moved into the development, some from other locations in the town centre while others are completely new to the area such as Debenhams and Primark. There is also a café with indoor and outdoor seating areas. Other shops in the development include Next, River Island, HMV, JD Sports, Topshop/Topman, Cherry Soda, Irepair, Subway, Poundland, Toytown, Costa Coffee, New Look, Holland & Barrett, Quiz, Hallmark, Ernest Jones, The Fragrance Shop, Clarks, and H&M. In 2014, a new covered roof was added to the shopping complex, keeping the weather wash from shoppers and other passers-by.

The Barns of Ayr was, according to Blind Harry in The Wallace, a site in Ayr, Scotland, which was used as English barracks. According to Blind Harry, a number of Scottish barons of Ayrshire were called to a meeting with King Edward I of England at a barn used as an English military barracks, only to be massacred and hanged, including Sir Ronald Crawford Sheriff of Ayr, Sir Bryce Blair of Blair, Sir Neil Montgomerie of Cassillis, Crystal of Seton, and Sir Hugh Montgomerie. In revenge, William Wallace burned the barracks with the English inside.This incident is now regarded by historians as unhistorical. No such mass killing of Scots nobles by the English took place around this time, although Edward I of England did become more ruthless very near the end of his life, executing several of Robert the Bruce's supporters. Book 4 of Barbour's epic poem The Bruce, an important near-contemporary source, mentions very briefly that "Sir Ranald of Crauford also, and Sir Bryce the Blair, were hanged in a barn at Ayr", but the context implies that this took place in 1306, the year after Wallace's execution. Whether intentional or not, the purported incident seems to have been a counterfactual reorganization of plagiarized, inflated, roughly contemporary events.Some accounts describe Ronald Crawford as father of Reginald Crawford, a minor but known historical figure in the Wars of Scottish Independence. However, Reginald Crawford was made Sheriff of Ayr in 1296, which is difficult to reconcile with the traditional story.
