Del Cerro (Spanish for "of the hill") is a hilly residential neighborhood of approximately 2,300 residents in the eastern part of San Diego, California. Del Cerro borders the communities of San Carlos, Allied Gardens, College Area, Grantville, and the city of La Mesa, and is adjacent to Lake Murray and San Diego State University. For planning purposes the city includes it in the Navajo community planning area.

Allied Gardens is a residential neighborhood in the eastern Navajo community of San Diego, California. It neighbors San Carlos to the east, Del Cerro to the south, the College Area to the southeast and Grantville to the southwest.

Adobe Falls is a seasonal waterfall on a tributary of the San Diego River. San Diego State University owns the land and it is currently posted with No Trespassing signs. There is no legal public access to this location. Due to high trespass traffic and destruction of the natural environment fences have been put in place and it is being regularly patrolled. Remedies are being explored for removing the graffiti in a manner that will not pollute the environment and to remove the trash that has accumulated there. The San Diego Historical Resources Board declared the falls a historic landmark in 1973 (San Diego Historic Landmark #80).

Phoebe Hearst Elementary School is a public elementary school in the Del Cerro area of San Diego, California, under the San Diego Unified School District. It enrolls around 520 students in grades K-5.

The San Diego State University College of Arts & Letters provides liberal arts education at SDSU. Its programs in the humanities and social sciences are offered through nineteen academic departments and a number of interdisciplinary programs, each of which is designed to help students understand their role in society and to develop aesthetic sensibilities. With 300 permanent faculty and many associated lecturers, this is the largest of the seven colleges, and is responsible for over one-third of the instruction at SDSU. Because the college occupies an important role in general education, virtually all SDSU students take courses offered here.

The Graduate School of Public Health is one of the professional graduate schools of San Diego State University within its College of Health and Human Services. Located in the College Area neighborhood of San Diego, California, it is part of the Association of Schools of Public Health and is fully accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health. San Diego State University is a member of the Western Association of Graduate Schools, the Council of Graduate Schools in the United States, and the Consortium of Universities for Global Health. The GSPH also maintains its own chapter in the Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health. The school's mission is "to improve population health and well-being by building a diverse public health workforce to meet the needs of current and future communities."

The San Diego State University shooting was a school shooting that occurred at the San Diego State University (SDSU) engineering building on August 15, 1996, in San Diego, California. Three professors were killed by master's degree student Frederick Martin Davidson. Three months later, a copycat threat flier was sent, with threats against professors and racial insults.

San Diego State University College of Engineering provides San Diego State University students with undergraduate and graduate engineering education. The College of Engineering offers eight degree programs. The San Diego State Aztecs are the athletic teams that represent San Diego State University (SDSU). San Diego State currently sponsors six men's and eleven women's sports at the varsity level. The Aztecs compete in NCAA Division I (FBS for football). The program's primary conference is the Mountain West Conference, though the men's soccer team competes in the Pac-12 Conference, women's water polo competes in the Golden Coast Conference, and women's lacrosse competes as an independent. On May 31, 2022, it was announced that women's lacrosse had received and accepted an invitation to join the Pac-12 Conference no later than the 2024 season (2023–24 school year).News reports (especially on local radio) often mention "Montezuma Mesa" or "news from the mesa" when discussing San Diego State-related sports events. The San Diego State campus is known as "Montezuma Mesa", as the university is situated on a mesa overlooking Mission Valley and is located at the intersection of Montezuma Road and College Avenue in the city of San Diego.

Hepner Hall, designed by the senior architectural designer of the California Division of the State Architect, Howard Spencer Hazen, and completed in 1931, is the iconic academic building in the center of San Diego State University (SDSU)'s campus, just north of Malcolm A. Love Library at the entrance to the Campanile Walkway and main quad.Hepner Hall is home to SDSU's School of Social Work, along with the Department of Gerontology and the University Center on Aging. Several faculty offices and research centers also are housed in Hepner Hall, along with an assortment of classrooms and lecture halls.

Hardy Memorial Tower at San Diego State University, constructed as a Works Progress Administration project in 1931, is 11 stories (119.1 ft / 36.3 m) tall; it contains the Fletcher Symphonic Carillon (also known as the Fletcher Chimes) (installed 1946), consisting of 204 bells over 6 octaves. Hardy Memorial Tower is part of the original core of the SDSU campus on Montezuma mesa, and was the university's original library.
