Allied Gardens, San Diego

Navajo is a hilly community in San Diego, California near East County. It is a designated planning area for the city of San Diego. It includes the neighborhoods of Del Cerro, Grantville, San Carlos, and Allied Gardens. The area encompasses approximately 14 square miles (36 km2). Its boundaries are Interstate 8 on the south, La Mesa on the southeast, El Cajon and Santee on the east, and the San Diego River on the north. Navajo is known for its natural attractions such as Mission Trails Regional Park, Lake Murray, and the San Diego River. The community was named for Navajo Road, a major street that runs through the area. The area is also served by the San Diego Trolley.

Rancho Ex-Mission San Diego was a 58,875-acre (238.26 km2) Mexican land grant in present-day San Diego County, California given in 1846 by Governor Pio Pico to Santiago Argüello. The rancho derives its name from the secularized Mission San Diego, and was called ex-Mission because of a division made of the lands held in the name of the Mission—the church retaining the grounds immediately around, and all of the lands outside of this are called ex-Mission lands. The grant extended eastward from the Pueblo San Diego to Rancho El Cajon, and encompassed present day east San Diego, Normal Heights, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, and Encanto.

Del Cerro (Spanish for "of the hill") is a hilly residential neighborhood of approximately 2,300 residents in the eastern part of San Diego, California. Del Cerro borders the communities of San Carlos, Allied Gardens, College Area, Grantville, and the city of La Mesa, and is adjacent to Lake Murray and San Diego State University. For planning purposes the city includes it in the Navajo community planning area.

Phoebe Hearst Elementary School is a public elementary school in the Del Cerro area of San Diego, California, under the San Diego Unified School District. It enrolls around 520 students in grades K-5.

Patrick Henry High School is a four-year public high school in San Diego, California, United States. It is part of the San Diego Unified School District. It is attended by students residing in Del Cerro, San Carlos, Allied Gardens, Mission Valley and the College Area. Patrick Henry High School is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The 57-acre (230,000 m2) campus includes a counseling center, child development center, computer and science labs, a cafetorium, library and a performing arts theater. The mascot of Patrick Henry High School is the Patriot, a reference to Patrick Henry, the American Founding Father. Patrick Henry High School participates in the Voluntary Ethnic Enrollment Program (VEEP) whereby approximately 600 students travel daily from an underrepresented minority community and are regularly enrolled, full-time students. In 2020, the ethnic composition of the school represented more than 20 ethnic groups, Patrick Henry High School is approximately 39.5% White, 29.8% Hispanic, 15.7% Asian, 8.6% Biracial, 5.8% Black, 0.3% Pacific Islander, 0.2% Not specified, and 0.1% Native American.

Adobe Falls is a seasonal waterfall on a tributary of the San Diego River. San Diego State University owns the land and it is currently posted with No Trespassing signs. There is no legal public access to this location. Due to high trespass traffic and destruction of the natural environment fences have been put in place and it is being regularly patrolled. Remedies are being explored for removing the graffiti in a manner that will not pollute the environment and to remove the trash that has accumulated there. The San Diego Historical Resources Board declared the falls a historic landmark in 1973 (San Diego Historic Landmark #80).

St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church is an Episcopal church in San Diego, California. It belongs to the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego.

The San Diego State University College of Arts & Letters provides liberal arts education at SDSU. Its programs in the humanities and social sciences are offered through nineteen academic departments and a number of interdisciplinary programs, each of which is designed to help students understand their role in society and to develop aesthetic sensibilities. The San Diego State University shooting was a school shooting that occurred at the San Diego State University (SDSU) engineering building on August 15, 1996, in San Diego, California. Three professors were killed by master's degree student Frederick Martin Davidson. Three months later, a copycat threat flier was sent, with threats against professors and racial insults.
