Point Marion Lock and Dam, previously known as Lock and Dam Number 8, is one of nine navigational structures on the Monongahela River between Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Fairmont, West Virginia. Maintained and built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the gated dam forms an upstream pool that is 11.2 miles (18.0 km) long, stretching to the base of the Morgantown Lock and Dam. It is located at river mile 90.5 (river kilometer 145.6). There is one lock chamber on the left descending bank of the river at the dam, 84 feet (26 m) wide and 720 feet (220 m) long. The reservoir formed by the dam is also a municipal and industrial water supply.

Stewartstown is an unincorporated community in Monongalia County, West Virginia, United States. William Stewart and his wife Elizabeth Givens Stewart originally settled Stewardstown in 1771. It lies in the region of Monongalia County known as The Forks of Cheat, so named because that is the area where the Cheat empties (forks) into the Monongahela River. It is nestled close to the Cheat River, off US-119 on a bend in the river. There in 1775, Rev John Corbly organized the Forks-of-the-Cheat Baptist Church, the oldest continuously operating church in West Virginia.

The Albert Gallatin Memorial Bridge (also known as the Point Marion Bridge) was a cantilever truss bridge that carried vehicular traffic across the Monongahela River in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. Built in 1930 to replace a ferry, it connected Point Marion in Fayette County and Dunkard Township in Greene County. It was named in honor of U.S. Senator, and longtime U.S. Treasury Secretary and diplomat Albert Gallatin, whose Friendship Hill homestead is nearby.

The Cheat River is a 78.3-mile-long (126.0 km) tributary of the Monongahela River in eastern West Virginia and southwestern Pennsylvania in the United States. Via the Ohio River, the Cheat and Monongahela are part of the Mississippi River watershed. Owing to the ruggedness of the surrounding Allegheny Mountains, the Cheat remains largely remote with few settlements or developments along its banks. Its headwaters are in the Cheat-Potomac Ranger District of the Monongahela National Forest.
