Maine Street

Brunswick is a town in Cumberland County, Maine, United States. Brunswick is included in the Lewiston-Auburn, Maine metropolitan New England city and town area. The population was 21,756 at the 2020 United States Census. Part of the Portland-South Portland-Biddeford metropolitan area, Brunswick is home to Bowdoin College, the Bowdoin International Music Festival, the Bowdoin College Museum of Art, the Peary–MacMillan Arctic Museum, and the Maine State Music Theatre. It was formerly home to the U.S. Naval Air Station Brunswick, which was permanently closed on May 31, 2011, and has since been partially released to redevelopment as "Brunswick Landing".

The First Parish Church is an Open and Affirming congregation of the United Church of Christ. The church meetinghouse sits at 207 Maine Street in Brunswick, Maine. Built in 1845 to a design by Richard Upjohn, it is a unique example of Gothic Revival architecture done in wood, as the church was built with vertical board-and-batten paneling. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1969. The congregation dates to 1717. The Senior Pastor is Rev. John Allen.

The Federal Street Historic District of Brunswick, Maine encompasses a part of the town whose development was influenced by its 18th-century success as a shipping center, and by the presence of Bowdoin College (chartered 1794), whose historic central campus is part of the district. In addition to the campus, the district includes a series of relatively high-style Federal and later-period houses along Federal Street and Maine Street, which join the campus to downtown Brunswick. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

The Joshua L. Chamberlain Museum was the home of American Civil War general, Bowdoin College president, and Maine Governor Joshua L. Chamberlain for over 50 years. Located at the corner of Maine and Potter Streets in Brunswick, Maine, the house is now open seasonally to the public and is in the process of being restored as it was when Chamberlain lived there.

Lower Mall is an urban park in Brunswick, Maine, United States. Established in 1823, it is located in the Federal Street Historic District, between Maine Street and Park Row, running from School Street in the north to Bath Road in the south. Veterans Plaza, a grouping of monuments honoring the town's veterans, stands at the park's northern end. There is also a gazebo at the park's southern end. The Skolfield-Whittier House, home of the Pejepscot Historical Society, stands on Park Row. In 1823, the land for this park―which was originally swampy―was sold to the town for "five cents" by three citizens with the stipulation that it be "reserved and used as a public walk or mall." The swamp was filled shortly thereafter. In 2019, there were plans to make Park Row a one-way street, from north to south, to facilitate the growing popularity of the town's farmers' market, which is held in the park. Just beyond the park's southern edge, the Rockland Branch of the Cumberland and Knox Railroad crosses Park Row. Upper Mall is also located between Maine Street and Park Row but adjacent to Bowdoin College, a few hundred feet to the south.

The Skolfield–Whittier House is a Victorian museum of the Pejepscot Historical Society, located at 161 Park Row in Brunswick, Maine. It is often referred to as a "time capsule" because it has been virtually untouched since the Victorian era.

Brunswick Maine Street Station, or Brunswick station, is a multi-modal, multi-use real estate development in Brunswick, Maine. Located on Maine Street, it consists of commercial offices, service centers, healthcare, retail, restaurants, theater and residential space. Brunswick Station is also a transportation hub for city buses, taxis, and passenger trains.The development is split into two parts, the "West" and "East" sides (West and East of Union Street respectively). The west side will consist mostly of residential apartments and homes, along with some retail and commercial office space. The east side consists of mostly retail and commercial office space, along with some apartments. The east side is also the location of the passenger train station. This development was built on the vacant lots surrounding the railroad junction between Portland, Lewiston, Augusta, and Rockland.

Massachusetts Hall is the oldest building on the campus of Bowdoin College, in Brunswick, Maine. It was built 1798–1802, and has seen a number of uses during the school's long history. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.

The Pejepscot Historical Society, known as the Pejepscot History Center, is the fourth oldest historical society in the state of Maine. Founded in 1888, the society's mission is to preserve and celebrate the history of the Pejepscot region, which includes the towns of Brunswick, Harpswell and Topsham.

The Hawthorne School is a former school building in Brunswick, Maine, United States. It stands on Federal Street, between School Street and Green Street, in the town's Federal Street Historic District. A school building was first erected on the site in 1851. It had a lower school on the building's first floor and a high school above. In the attic space was a physics and chemistry laboratory. That building was demolished in 1891. A second building initially served as Brunswick's high school. It burned down in January 1915 and was replaced the following year. Between 1938 (when the high school moved to Spring Street) and 2009, it was Hawthorne Elementary School. In 2015, the building became one of fourteen sites in Brunswick, Harpswell and Topsham to have a plaque added by the Village Heritage Society and Brunswick Area Pride and Heritage Committee. It was recognized as being the site of the first public high school in Brunswick. As of 2026, it sits vacant, last used as office space for the Brunswick School Department, but there are plans to redevelop the building's usage.

Maine State Music Theatre (MSMT) is a professional performing arts organization based in Brunswick, Maine. MSMT presents a summer season of four fully staged musicals, a concert series, and a Theatre for Young Audiences series.

The Harriet Beecher Stowe House is a historic home and National Historic Landmark at 63 Federal Street in Brunswick, Maine, notable as a short-term home of Harriet Beecher Stowe and Calvin Ellis Stowe and where Harriet wrote her 1852 novel Uncle Tom's Cabin. Earlier, it had been the home of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow as a student. It is today owned by Bowdoin College. A space within the house, called Harriet's Writing Room, is open to the public.
