South Grand Prairie High School

Grand Prairie Independent School District is a school district headquartered in Grand Prairie, Texas, United States. GPISD is a 58-square-mile (150 km2) district serving more than 26,600 students within the Dallas County portion of Grand Prairie. The district boasts 41 campuses, including two early education schools, 22 elementary schools, six middle schools, three 6-12 campuses, three high schools, two early college high schools, and two alternative education schools. The District employs more than 4,529 staff members and offers a variety of services and programs designed to help students radiate success. To attend a GPISD school, kindergarten children must be five years old on or before September 1 of the current school year. Special early childhood programs are available for children ages 3–5 who are handicapped or developmentally delayed, and for infants from birth to age two who are blind or deaf. GPISD is an open enrollment district through the Schools and Programs of Choice. Students entering GPISD from other accredited schools are admitted at the level authorized by individual transcripts. A student enrolling in Grand Prairie schools must be a resident of the GPISD and must provide satisfactory proof of residency and required immunizations. The high schools in the district are Grand Prairie High School, South Grand Prairie High School and Dubiski Career High School. The GPISD Education Center is located at 2602 South Belt Line Road. In 2011, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency.

Grand Prairie is a city in Dallas, Tarrant, and Ellis counties of Texas, United States. It is part of the Mid-Cities region in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. It had a population of 175,396 according to the 2010 census, making it the fifteenth most populous city in the state. Remaining the 15th-most populous city in Texas, the 2020 census reported a population of 196,100.

Young Women's Leadership Academy at Arnold is an all girls' middle and high school in Grand Prairie, Texas. It is a part of the Grand Prairie Independent School District. The school is part of the Young Women's Preparatory Network and as an average of 1400 students: 1,200 middle school and 200 high school students. As a college preparatory school, it offers two career pathways (which is a great contrast to other GPISD high schools such as Dubiski Career High School or South Grand Prairie High School) Fashion and Business as well as STEM.

Mountain Creek is a creek in North Texas. The creek rises near Alvarado in eastern Johnson County. It flows northeast for thirty-eight miles, forming a boundary between Grand Prairie and Dallas, where it meets Mountain Creek Lake, the mouth of the creek is on the West Fork of the Trinity River. Walnut Creek is a tributary of the creek.

The Mountain Creek Lake Bridge is a bridge in Dallas County, Texas. The bridge is part of the North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) system. It is tolled in both directions (toll is collected on the west end of the bridge), and the lanes of the Mountain Creek Lake Bridge toll plaza are equipped for electronic toll collection via TollTag. The bridge connects Spur 303 between Grand Prairie and Dallas across Mountain Creek Lake.

Grand Prairie Municipal Airport (ICAO: KGPM, FAA LID: GPM) is five miles southwest of Grand Prairie, a city largely in Dallas County, Texas.Most U.S. airports use the same three-letter location identifier for the FAA and IATA, but Grand Prairie Municipal Airport is GPM to the FAA and has no IATA code.

Mountain Creek Lake is a reservoir located 8 miles (13 km) southwest of Downtown Dallas, Texas, United States, in the Mountain Creek area of the city. It is located south of SH 180, west of Spur 408, north of I-20, and east of FM 1382. The defunct Naval Air Station Dallas (Hensley Field), now an Armed Forces Reserve Center, is located on the northern shore of the lake. Mountain Creek Lake Park is on the lake's southeastern and southwestern edges. The Texas Department of State Health Services in April 1996 issued a ban on keeping or eating fish due to high contamination levels of PCBs and other toxic chemicals. The ban was lifted in 2010, but TDSHS advised against consuming any fish caught in the lake. Contaminants entered the lake from the Dallas Naval Air Station and industrial facilities such as an airport factory and power plant. In 2017, TDSHS updated its advisory to mention that White Crappie were now safe to eat, while Channel and Flathead Catfish, Largemouth Bass, and White Bass may be eaten in limited amounts. Other types of fish such as Common Carp, Freshwater Drum, or Smallmouth Buffalo are still deemed unsafe to eat.

Naval Weapons Industrial Reserve Plant, Dallas (NWIRP) was a government-owned, contractor-operated (GOCO) facility operating from 1941 to 2014 which had the mission of designing, fabricating, and testing prototype weapons and equipment, and is located in Dallas, Texas. The NWIRP first began as an aerospace manufacturing complex constructed for the World War II mobilization program. In 2012, the plant was sold to a private corporation for $357,500. It was located for most of its time next to Naval Air Station Dallas, now known as the Grand Prairie Armed Forces Reserve Complex.

The Grand Prairie Armed Forces Reserve Complex or Grand Prairie AFRC (formerly Naval Air Station Dallas or Hensley Field) is a former United States Navy Naval Air Station located on Mountain Creek Lake in southwest Dallas. The installation was established as an Army aviation center, and eventually became home to aviation assets from all the military services. In December 1998, Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) action decommissioned the naval air station; transferred Carswell AFB to the U.S. Navy and renamed it Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth / Carswell Field; and sent Grand Prairie's Naval Air Reserve, Marine Air Reserve and Texas Air National Guard flying units (wings, groups, squadrons) to Carswell.The former NAS Dallas was later recommissioned as the Grand Prairie Armed Forces Reserve Complex, with the half that housed the aircraft-related facilities (such as the runway, hangars, etc.) going to the Texas Air National Guard, and the half with most non-aircraft related facilities going to the U.S. Army Reserve and a small area to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. Vought Aircraft Industries operated a government-owned, contractor-operated (GOCO) plant next to Grand Prairie AFRC until 2014. In 2019 the site was redeveloped into a distribution center for The Home Depot, which opened in 2021.Soon after the BRAC closure, ownership of 738 acres (299 ha) of the former base was transferred from the U.S. government to the city of Dallas, but plans to redevelop the land for other uses have been stalled since 2001 due to the U.S. Navy's failure to clean up environmental contamination that occurred while the site was used by the military.

Dallas International University (DIU) is an private non-profit Christian undergraduate school and graduate school located in the southwest corner of Dallas, Texas, formerly called the Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics. From its beginning in 1998, DIU provided education for applied linguistics and language development work in marginalized language communities around the world. Courses are offered in such areas as language documentation, grammatical analysis, phonology, macro-sociolinguistics, multilingual education, language survey, translation, descriptive linguistics, sign language analysis, and human migration. Dallas International University offers undergraduate and graduate degrees. It also offers certificate programs, such as certificates in Sign Language Linguistics, Human Migration, Abrahamic Studies, and World Arts. The name was changed from the founding 1998 name of Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics to Dallas International University in 2018. Since then, in addition to an MA degree program in World Arts (ethnomusicology and other arts) started in 2008, a PhD program was launched in 2019. Dallas International University is accredited as a "Level V" university by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award BA, MA, and PhD degrees.Dallas International also offers undergraduate courses leading toward a bachelor’s degree, which may also be taken as post-baccaleareate prerequisites for its graduate programs. The student body averages around 200 students. Alumni of Dallas International University have gone on to work in over 80 countries.
