Manor House, Templecombe

Templecombe is a village in Somerset, England, situated on the A357 road five miles south of Wincanton, 12 miles (19 km) east of Yeovil, and 30 miles (48 km) west of Salisbury. It is located within the Blackmore Vale. The village has a population of 1,560. Along with the hamlet of Combe Throop, it forms the parish of Abbas and Templecombe.

Templecombe Preceptory (or Combe Templariorum) was established in 1185 in Templecombe, Somerset, England. One of the manors within the parish was held by Earl Leofwine. It was awarded to Bishop Odo of Bayeux after the Norman Conquest. It was his descendant Serlo FitzOdo who granted it to the Knights Templar who established a preceptory in the village in 1185.The preceptory served as an administrative centre for the lands held by the Templars in the south west of England and Cornwall. It may also have been used to train men and horses for the Crusades.After the Knights Templar were suppressed following the 1307 order by Pope Clement IV, it was granted to the Knights of St John who held it until the dissolution of the monasteries.An attempt to discover 'the village of the templars' was made by archaeological television programme Time Team.

Templecombe railway station serves the town of Templecombe in Somerset, England. It is situated on the West of England Main Line, 112 miles 2 chains (180.3 km) down the line from London Waterloo. The main station opened in 1860 but a smaller station on the lower line opened in 1862. It was closed in 1966 but was reopened in 1983 following local community pressure. It is currently operated by South Western Railway.

Abbas Combe is a village in the civil parish of Abbas and Templecombe, in the county of Somerset, England. It is situated on the A357 road beside Templecombe, seven miles south west of Gillingham. As of 2002 the parish of Abbas and Templecombe had a population of 1,510. The modern area now known as Abbas Combe is now considered more of a part of Templecombe. The border is fuzzy however it's mostly the areas of Templecombe located north of the Railway Station. Abbas Combe consists of a few buildings and structures such as a church, a resovoir, farm, War Memorial, and many other buildings. Other than those Abbas Combe is entirely residential.Abbas Combe isn't served directly by any public transport routes but is right by Templecombe railway station.Abbas Combe is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086-7 as Cumbe, when it was held by the church of St Edward, Shaftesbury.

Yenston Priory was a Benedictine priory in Henstridge, Somerset, England. It was a cell of the Abbey of Sever in Normandy, France. It was founded by Hugh d'Avranches, 1st Earl of Chester, who died around 1100 and was also known as Hugh Abrincus, and Hugh Lupus. In 1158 the abbey was confirmed by Pope Adrian IV.Around 1468 it was granted to Eton College. The buildings had been demolished before 1450. and later by Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset. After the dissolution of the monasteries the land was held by Sir Thomas Bell.Stone from the priory was used to build Monmouth House in the village, and traces of its buildings may remain in the outhouses. There are also surface marks in surrounding fields, however these may not be from the building itself but from the excavation of stone.

The Gartell Light Railway is a privately run narrow gauge railway located at Yenston in the Blackmore Vale, south of Templecombe, in Somerset, England. It operates a 2 ft (610 mm) narrow gauge railway running for 3⁄4 mile (1.2 km), partly along the track of the old Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway. The railway has 4 stations - Common Lane, Pinesway Junction, Park Lane and Tower View. The railway is controlled using a comprehensive signalling system operated from two signalboxes - Common lane and Pinesway Junction. Both signalboxes control a mix of semaphore and colour light signals with mechanically operated points.The railway is open to the public on selected dates through the year when it normally operates an intensive 3 train operation with departures from Common Lane station every 20 minutes through the day between 10:30 and 16:30.

Horsington House is a country house in Horsington, near Templecombe in Somerset. It is a stone-built house with pillared porch, built in 1839. It is a Grade II listed building.The estate was the home of the Dodington family from around 1790 to 1922. The three-storey Doulting stone house built in 1839 has five bays on the front with a pediment supported by doric columns over the central porch.In 1939 the house and park were sold by Catherine Campbell Noyes to Malvern Girls' College. The charity Barnardo's used it as a children's home from 1946 until July 1972. Subsequently Horsington House became an hotel. It is now, once again, owned privately.

Yenston is a small hamlet in Somerset within the Parish of Henstridge. Located on the A357, the hamlet is located between Templecombe and Henstridge. Over the years the hamlet has seen a number of changes. Back in the 1950s, the village had 3 pubs, a Methodist Church and a Village Shop Since then the pubs and shop have changed into dwellings, the village life is based around homelife. Yenston's major feature is the Gartell Light Railway, which allows you to travel behind Steam & Diesel hauled trains on the old Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway through the heart of Blackmore Vale. The Gartell Railway is open on a limited calendar. Other features of the village consist of the Yenston Stone (created in 2000) and the red telephone box within the centre of the village.

Horsington is a village and Civil parish in Somerset, England, situated 4 miles (6.4 km) south of Wincanton and 1 mile (1.6 km) north of Templecombe in the South Somerset district. The village lies on the edge of Horsington Marsh, part of the Blackmore Vale. In 2011 the population of the Parish, which includes the adjoining hamlets of Peckholdsash and Wilkin Throop and the village of South Cheriton was 571.

The Church of St Nicholas in Henstridge, Somerset, England was built in the 12th century. It is a Grade II* listed building.
