It is located in the southeastern part of the city and covers an area of 5.1 square kilometres (2 sq mi). The population of this ward in 2011 was 16,943 people in 7,393 households. It is one of the five wards that make up the Sheffield South East constituency.

Birley Spa is a grade-II listed community bath hall and a Victorian bathhouse in the Hackenthorpe district of the City of Sheffield, England.

Hackenthorpe is a village 5 miles south east of Sheffield’s city centre, now classed as a historic township of the city. Due to much expansion, the village became a part of Sheffield city during the 1950s. During much of the late 19th and 20th centuries the village was noted for its steelmaking, with the Thomas Staniforth & Co Sickle works being based at Main Street. Another prominent feature of the village is the 17th century Hackenthorpe Hall, built by John Newbould for the Hounsfield family, with James Hounsfield being a prominent land owner. The building is today used as a nursery.The Hackenthorpe Infant School provided education to the local children in the village during the 20th century, this was demolished in 1999 and today local children attend the Rainbow Forge school. Today the village has seen much development in terms of housing, however the former sickle works, estates and post office still remain in the village and are a reminder of its industrial past. Hackenthope was once a part of Derbyshire in the parish of Beighton but is now part of South Yorkshire.

Frecheville is a suburb five miles (8.0 km) south-east of Sheffield’s city centre. The estate was built in the 1930s when the area was in Derbyshire. However, due to expansion, Frecheville and a number of surrounding villages became part of the city of Sheffield in 1967 and thus the West Riding of Yorkshire.

Litfield Farm is a farm in Ridgeway, Derbyshire. The farm was once regarded as being located in a hamlet east of Ridgeway known as Litfield, but is now part of the larger settlement. The farmhouse is a 17th-century Grade II listed building.Litfield, or variations of the name, are mentioned as early as the 15th century, when the name appears on the Eckington Manorial Court Rolls. Due to various families, most notable of which was the Staniforth family, being mentioned in relation to the place, it is likely that Litfield was a loose term applied to the area surrounding the farmhouse. The farmhouse appears to have been in the possession of the Staniforth family for centuries. On 24 April 1587, Robert Sitwell transferred the land to Ralph Staniforth. During the 17th century, a William Staniforth was resident at the farmhouse. The farmhouse eventually passed down to George Staniforth of Barlborough. In 1828, the property is divided following the death of George Staniforth and was sold. In 1842 the Parker family was recorded as residing at the property. Upon its proposed sale in 1859, the Litfield freehold estate of 30 acres consisted of the farmhouse and associated buildings, and also five cottages.Although the house retains most of its original features, it was renovated in 2006.

Christ Church is a church situated in Hackenthorpe, a suburb of the City of Sheffield. It is located on Sheffield road, and was built in 1899. The church was largely funded by local land owner James Houndsfield.
