The Heights (Geelong)

St Joseph's College (sometimes referred to colloquially as Joeys or SJC) is an independent Catholic secondary school for boys, located in the inner Geelong suburb of Newtown, Victoria, Australia. The school was founded by the Congregation of Christian Brothers in 1935, who continue to run the school, and provides education from year 7–12, offering a broad range of curricular choices for its students in middle and senior schools including VCE, VET and VCAL. In 2014 the Year 9 Westcourt Campus began operation, and the Joseph Innovation Trade Training Centre also commenced classes offering a broad range of study options. The current principal is Tony Paatsch. The two Deputy Principals are Lisa Pope and Mark Kennedy.

Newtown is an inner western suburb of Geelong, Victoria, Australia. At the 2016 census, Newtown had a population of 10,155. It is a primarily residential area occupying one of the highest points of urban Geelong. It has always been a desirable place of residence and is the location of many of Geelong's oldest and most valuable properties. The locality of Chilwell is part of Newtown, and together Newtown and Chilwell were a municipality from 1858 to 1993 after which they were amalgamated with other municipalities to form the City of Greater Geelong in 1993.

The City of Newtown was a local government area about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) west of the regional city of Geelong, Victoria, Australia. The city covered an area of 6.22 square kilometres (2.4 sq mi), and existed from 1858 until 1993.

Geelong West was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Victoria from 1859 to 1985. It was located west of the city of Geelong, defined in the Victorian Electoral Act, 1858 as: Bounded on the north and north-west by a line drawn at a distance of 2 miles from the north-western angle of the town reserve of Geelong, as a centre from the western shore of Corio Bay, near Cowie's Creek, to a road leading to the River Barwon; on the west by that road; on the south-west and south by the River Barwon; and on the east by the western boundary of the town reserve of Geelong and the shores of Corio Bay, including the reserve at the junction of the Barwon and MooraboolGeelong West (along with Electoral district of Geelong East) was created when the four-member Electoral district of Geelong was abolished in 1859. Geelong West and Geelong East were abolished in 1877, replaced by a re-created 3-member district of Geelong. Geelong West was re-created in 1955.

The Geelong College is an Australian independent and co-educational, Christian day and boarding school located in Newtown, an inner-western suburb of Geelong, Victoria. Established in 1861 by Alexander James Campbell, a Presbyterian minister, the Geelong College was formerly a school of the Presbyterian Church of Australia and is now operated in association with the Uniting Church in Australia but is not governed or managed by the church. The school has a non-selective enrolment policy and currently caters for over 1,200 students from kindergarten to Year 12, including around 100 boarding students from Years 7 to 12. The boarding students are accommodated in two boarding houses at the senior school campus: Mackie House for boys, Mossgiel House for girls. The college is affiliated with the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference, the Association of Heads of Independent Schools of Australia, the Junior School Heads Association of Australia, the Association of Independent Schools of Victoria, the Australian Boarding Schools Association, and has been a member of the Associated Public Schools of Victoria since 1908.

Manifold Heights is a residential suburb of Geelong. At the 2016 census, Manifold Heights had a population of 2,649.It was named after Manifolds’ vineyards, that existed between Minerva Road and Shannon Avenue, immediately east of the Geelong Western Cemetery in Herne Hill. The vineyards were owned by the prominent Western District pastoralists, John and Peter Manifold.The Post Office opened on 25 March 1929, but has always been known as Manifold.Holy Spirit Church, located in Bostock Avenue, is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register.

Sacred Heart College is a Roman Catholic secondary school for girls, and is located in Retreat Road, Newtown, Geelong, Victoria in Australia. It is now one of the largest Catholic secondary girls schools in Victoria.The current principal is Anna Negro, with three Deputy Principals: Gerard Raven, Tanya Malley and Acting Deputy Principal, Catherine Gulli.

All Saints' Anglican Church is a heritage-listed Anglican parish church situated in the Geelong suburb of Newtown, Victoria, Australia. The church was built in the early English Gothic style, using bluestone with freestone dressing. It has served as a place of Anglican worship since 1863. It is part of the Parish of Newtown & Geelong West, within the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne and remains in active use for religious services and community evenets.

St David's Uniting Church is a historic Uniting Church congregation and church building located in the corner of Aphrasia Street and Talbot Street in Newtown, a suburb of Geelong, Victoria, Australia. Built on the site of an earlier 1850s church to serve the growing Presbyterian community in Newtown, the church has remained an active place of worship and community gathering for over a century, since 1914. The building is recognised for its architectural character, and it is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register.

Geelong Western Cemetery is a cemetery located on Minerva Road, Herne Hill in the city of Geelong, Victoria in Australia. The first burial taking place on 12 January 1858. The cemetery was known under various names during its history; New Cemetery, New General Cemetery, Herne Hill Cemetery, Newtown Cemetery.Its original layout was designed by Christopher Porter and its original plantings supplied by Baron von Mueller. The cemetery has important historical associations with many Geelong families and tribal aboriginals of the district.

Balyang Sanctuary is a public park in the suburb of Newtown, Geelong. Situated at 38.1642°S 144.3312°E / -38.1642; 144.3312 on the banks of the Barwon River, it is 20 acres (8 ha) in size and consists of open park lands, lakes, and wetlands. It was opened in 1973.

The Moorabool River is a river in Victoria, Australia, that runs past several small towns and areas such as Meredith, Anakie, and Staughton Vale (north-west of Geelong). The river joins with the Barwon River at Fyansford.
