Sawley is a village and civil parish in the Harrogate district of North Yorkshire, England. It is about 4 miles (6.4 km) west of Ripon. From this position, the Yorkshire Dales are to the west and the North Yorkshire Moors and coast are to the east. The village is located within the Nidderdale area of outstanding natural beauty. In the 1870s, Sawley was described as "a township-chapelry, with a village and four hamlets, in Ripon parish, W. R. Yorkshire." The township's four hamlets were Cowbush, Hungate, North Pastures, and Rispleth.

Aldfield is a village and civil parish in the former Harrogate district of North Yorkshire, England, about three miles west of Ripon. It is the closest village to Fountains Abbey and became part of the abbey estate in 1356. The population of the parish was estimated at 80 in 2013. The parish now shares a grouped parish council with the civil parishes of Studley Roger and Lindrick with Studley Royal and Fountains, known as Fountains Abbey Parish Council. St Lawrence's Church, Aldfield, is a grade II* listed building, dating from the 1780s.

St Lawrence's Church is the parish church of Aldfield, a village in North Yorkshire, in England. The first church on the site was built in the 14th century. It was rebuilt in the 1780s. In 1878, St Mary's, Studley Royal was completed, and superseded St Lawrence as the parish church, but in 1969 St Lawrence was restored to the role. The church was Grade II* listed in 1967. The church is built of gritstone rubble, with a slate roof. It has a three-bay nave, with a bellcote at the west end. There is a north transept with a vestry, and just a small east projection as a sanctuary. The building is in the Gothick style, with pointed windows, many of which have Y-shaped tracery. There is a sundial, which is inscribed "1696 Mr. A. SMITH R.W R.L." Inside, there is a three-decker pulpit, with a sounding board and original candlesticks, box pews throughout, and an organ at the west end.

Fountains Hall is a country house near Ripon in North Yorkshire, England, located within the World Heritage Site at Studley Royal Park which include the ruins of Fountains Abbey. It belongs to the National Trust and is a Grade I listed building.

Fountains Abbey is one of the largest and best preserved ruined Cistercian monasteries in England. It is located approximately 3 miles (5 km) south-west of Ripon in North Yorkshire, near the village of Aldfield. Founded in 1132, the abbey operated for 407 years, becoming one of the wealthiest monasteries in England until its dissolution, by order of Henry VIII, in 1539. In 1983, Studley Royal Park including the ruins of Fountains Abbey was purchased by the National Trust. The abbey is maintained by English Heritage.

The Church of St Mary, Studley Royal, is a Victorian Gothic Revival church built in the Early English style by William Burges. It is located in the grounds of Studley Royal Park at Fountains Abbey, in North Yorkshire, England. Burges was commissioned by the 1st Marquess of Ripon to build the church as a memorial church to Frederick Grantham Vyner, his brother-in-law. It is one of two such churches, the other being the Church of Christ the Consoler at Skelton-on-Ure.

Warsill is a settlement and civil parish in the Harrogate district, in the county of North Yorkshire, England. It consists of a few scattered farms 5 miles (8 km) south west of Ripon. In 1961 the population of the parish was 42. The population was estimated at 70 in 2015.Warsill was historically an extra parochial area. It became a civil parish in 1858. Today it shares a grouped parish council with Bishop Thornton.The toponym, first recorded in 1132 as Warthsala, probably derives from the Old English weard sæl, meaning "watch castle". In the Middle Ages there was a grange of Fountains Abbey here, and Warsill Hall Farmhouse, a 17th-century Grade II listed building, now stands on its site.

Cow Myers is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) located in the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), near Ripon, North Yorkshire, England. The site was designated in 1984 for its fen and alder carr habitat, which supports a diversity of wetland plant life. Of particular interest are the bird's eye primrose (Primula farinosa) which is scarce in Yorkshire, and early marsh orchid. There is no public access to this site, no vehicular access, and no public facilities.

Bishop Thornton is a village in the civil parish of Bishop Thornton, Shaw Mills and Warsill, in the Harrogate district of North Yorkshire, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 521, decreasing to 507 at the 2011 census. The village is about seven miles north of Harrogate. Bishop Thornton has both Anglican and Roman Catholic churches, the latter being the oldest in the Diocese of Leeds, and two schools. The village was historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire until 1974.

St Joseph's Church is a Catholic church in Bishop Thornton, a village in North Yorkshire, in England. The existence of Catholic worship in Bishop Thornton is attested from at least 1746. In 1790, a presbytery was built for Richard Talbot and Charles Saul, on land donated by Stephen Ingilby. It has a decorative staircase leading up to a windowless room, where it is presumed that mass was said. In 1809, a church was built onto the presbytery. It was restored by Weightman & Brown from 1980 to 1981, and the whole structure was Grade II listed in 1986. It is the oldest purpose-built church in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Leeds. Both the church and presbytery are built of gritstone with tile roofs. The presbytery has two storeys and attics, and three bays, a central porch and mullioned windows. The church to the right has four bays, round-headed windows, a porch at the east end, and a gable cross. Inside, most of the furnishing date to between 1875 and 1929, the period when Herman Geurts served as priest. The stained glass dates from the mid-20th century, and is by Hardman & Co. The church also contains a slab from the Mediaeval altar of Walworth Chapel.

St John's Church is an Anglican church in Bishop Thornton, a village in North Yorkshire, in England. The first church building in Bishop Thornton was constructed in about 1460, on the initiative of John Walworth. It was rebuilt in 1825 by John Oates but was demolished other than the tower in 1888. The three-stage tower (54°04′25″N 1°36′07″W) survives and is a Grade II listed building. The current church was consecrated in January 1889. It lies half a mile south of the old building. The small church is in the Decorated Gothic style, and it has an octagonal bellcote. The chancel has four small windows, which were relocated from the old church. There is an octagonal font, and an organ built by James Jepson Binns. The east window contains a depiction of the old church.
