The Hall, Thornton-le-Dale

Beck Isle Cottage is a historic building in Thornton-le-Dale, a village in North Yorkshire, in England. The cottage was built in the 17th century, and in the 20th century was heightened, extended and restored. It is the last remaining thatched cottage in the village, and was most recently rethatched in 2015. It has been described as having a "fairytale feel" and as being "potentially the most photographed home in Yorkshire". The house has four bedrooms, three reception rooms and two bathrooms. The building was grade II listed in 1986. The house has a cruck framed core, it is encased in sandstone, and has a stepped eaves course and a thatched roof. There is one storey and an attic, three bays, and a later rear wing. On the left bay is a projecting bracketed thatched porch, and the windows are horizontally sliding sashes, those in the attic in eyebrow dormers. Inside, three pairs of jointed crucks have survived.

The Old Grammar School is a historic building in Thornton-le-Dale, a village in North Yorkshire, in England. The grammar school was endowed by Lady Elizabeth Lumley, and was completed in 1670, alongside the neighbouring Lady Lumley's Almshouses. The building was heavily restored in the 19th century, but the school closed in 1905, being merged into Lady Lumley's School in nearby Pickering. The building has since been used as a village hall. It has been grade II listed since 1953. The building is constructed of sandstone on a plinth, with chamfered quoins, an attic band, a mouded eaves cornice, and a stone flag rood with coped gables and shaped kneelers. It has a single storey and an attic, and a rectangular plan, with extensions at the rear. On the gable end facing the street is a round-headed Perpendicular window with a hood mould, above which is a recessed round-headed bell opening. The right return has three bays. In the centre is a doorway, above which is a two-light mullioned window, and these are flanked by two-light mullioned and transomed windows.

Lady Lumley's Almshouses are a historic building in Thornton-le-Dale, a village in North Yorkshire, in England. The almshouses were built using funding from Elizabeth Lumley, placed in trust in 1656, but the building was only completed in 1670. The building was restored in the 19th century, then in the 20th century was extended and modernised. It was renovated in 2014 and again in 2025. It now provides 12 one-bedroom bungalows for elderly people with links to the area. The building was grade II listed in 1953. The almshouses are built of limestone, with a moulded eaves cornice, and a stone flag roof. They have one storey, 24 bays and later rear extensions. The doorways are paired and have plain surrounds, and the windows have two lights with cinquefoil heads and stone surrounds. In the centre is an inscribed tablet.

All Saints' Church is the parish church of Thornton-le-Dale, a village in North Yorkshire, in England. The church was rebuilt in the early 14th century, from which period the nave and part of the chancel survive. A tower was added late in the century. Between 1865 and 1866, the chancel and vestry were rebuilt, the nave was restored and all the windows were replaced, the work being by Edward Wyndham Tarn. A porch was added in 1900. The building was grade II* listed in 1953. The church is built of sandstone with a stone flagged roof, and consists of a nave, north and south aisles, a south porch, a chancel and vestry, and a west tower. The tower has four stages, diagonal buttresses, string courses, and a west window with a pointed arch, three lights and a hood mould. On the second stage are clock faces, the bell openings have two lights, and above is an embattled parapet with crocketed pinnacles. Inside, there are a 14th-century piscina and sedilia. There are several 17th- and 18th-century memorials, and a canopied tomb with a figure of a woman with a dog at her feet, the woman possibly being Beatrice Hastings, who died around 1320.

Thornton-le-Dale Market Cross is a historic structure in Thornton-le-Dale, a village in North Yorkshire, in England. The village was granted a market charter in 1281. At some point in the Mediaeval period, a market cross was erected in the square in the middle of the village. It would originally have been capped by a carved cross, but at some point that was replaced by a ball. The cross was restored in 1820, and was grade II listed in 1953. The cross is constructed of limestone. It consists of a tapering octagonal shaft on a tall square pedestal, on six square stone steps.

Thornton-le-Dale (also called Thornton Dale) is a village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England, about 3 miles (5 km) east of Pickering on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. The area of the village encompasses 39.2 square kilometres. A thatched building, called Beck Isle or Thatched Cottage and Grade II listed, was built in the 17th century and modified/extended in the 20th. The building has appeared on countless calendars and chocolate boxes over the years. A new thatched roof was installed in 2014. A stream, the Thornton Beck, meanders along the streets and is crossed by several bridges. Much of the village was designated as a Conservation Area by the North York Moors Park Authority in 1977. Thornton-le-Dale is often regarded as one of the prettiest villages in Yorkshire. The village lies on the A170 road from Thirsk to Scarborough within the National Park. The route of the White Rose Way, a long-distance walk from Leeds to Scarborough, also passes through.

Ellerburn cum Farmanby (sometimes Ellerburn) is a former civil parish in what is now the county of North Yorkshire, England. Parts of the parish straddled the road between Pickering and Thornton Dale, with the church of St Hilda, Ellerburn, being in the north of the former parish. The land of the former parish is now contained within the civil parish of Thornton Dale.

Thornton Dale railway station was situated on the North Eastern Railway's Pickering to Seamer branch line. It served the village of Thornton-le-Dale in North Yorkshire, England. The station opened to passenger traffic on 1 May 1882, and closed on 3 June 1950. The trains first arrived in the village in 1839 but the Pickering-Scarborough branch was not completed here until 1882. After regular service began, some agricultural workers left the area on the train, seeking paid jobs elsewhere. The station remained open for freight traffic to Pickering after the rest of the Forge Valley Line was closed and pulled up. A daily train took limestone (brought by lorry from a quarry north of the village) to Pickering from where it was taken forwards to Skinningrove Ironworks. Unfortunately the quarry company lost the contract to supply the ironworks and this traffic ceased by 1964. The last traffic into the station was two Presflo wagons of bulk cement for repairs to the village hall. Shortly afterwards two Wickham Railmotors from Pickering visited the line to check that all the fences were stock-proof and in due course contractors arrived and removed the track. The station building was cleared and converted into offices for a company building a (short lived) gas pipeline to Pickering. Subsequently, the property was used as a caravan park and the station was eventually converted into three holiday rental cottages.

The Church of St Hilda, Ellerburn, is an Anglican church in North Yorkshire, England. The church is located in the hamlet of Ellerburn, to the north of Thornton-le-Dale, and is an ancient structure that dates back to Saxon times and has been renovated twice, extensively in 1904. It was briefly famous in 2004 and 2011 for having to be being closed due to bats nesting in the roof.

Pexton Moor is an archaeological site in North Yorkshire containing a prehistoric cemetery. It is located at the western edge of Dalby Forest, north of Thornton-le-Dale. It forms part of the Arras Culture of inhumation and chariot burial prevalent in the region during the British Iron Age.

Wilton is a small village and civil parish near Pickering in North Yorkshire, England. The village is 4 miles (6.4 km) east of Pickering, 12 miles (19 km) west of Scarborough, and 10 miles (16 km) north-east of Malton.
