St Mary's Church, Callington

The East Cornwall Mineral Railway was a 1,067 mm (3 ft 6 in) gauge railway line, opened in 1872 to connect mines and quarries in the Callington and Gunnislake areas in east Cornwall, England, with shipping at Calstock on the River Tamar. The line included a rope-worked incline to descend to the quay at Calstock. Following the opening of a main line railway at nearby Bere Alston, a connecting line from there to Calstock was opened, and the existing line converted to standard gauge, opening throughout as a passenger line in 1908. When rural lines in the area were closed in the 1960s, a short section of the original ECMR line was retained to keep open a connection from Plymouth to Gunnislake, and that section remains open at the present day.

Callington (Cornish: Kelliwik) is a town and civil parish in east Cornwall, England. It lies about 7 miles (11 km) north of Saltash and 9 miles (14 km) south of Launceston. The parish had a population of 5,983 in 2021.

Callington Town Football Club is a football club based in Callington, Cornwall, England. They are currently members of South West Peninsula League Premier Division West and play at Marshfield Parc.

Callington Community College is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form with academy status, in Callington Cornwall. The school was established between 1911 and 1914 on Launceston Road as a council building, with parts of that building still in use. As a result of the Education Act 1944 this school became Callington Secondary Modern School. In 1971 the school merged with Callington Grammar School and Delaware Secondary Modern School to form Callington Comprehensive School on the Launceston Road site. By the 2000s the school had become Callington Community College, gaining Sports College status and Training School status in 2000, and Music College status in 2004. The school converted to academy status in April 2011. Callington Community College offers GCSEs and vocational courses as programmes of study for pupils, while students in the sixth form have the option to study from a range of A-levels and further vocational courses.

Callington railway station (Cornish: Kelliwik) was a railway station in the village of Kelly Bray, one mile (1.6 km) north of the centre of the small town of Callington, Cornwall. It was the terminus of a branch line from Bere Alston, built by the Plymouth, Devonport and South Western Junction Railway, but operated by the London and South Western Railway. The station closed in 1966. The Tamar Valley Line still operates services from Bere Alston, with services terminating at Gunnislake railway station, 5 miles (8 km) to the east of Callington. The now-closed section of line north of Gunnislake was remote from local communities and provided a relatively slow journey compared with the competing roads, which limited its use. (Callington had good bus services to Saltash and Plymouth, but the landscape denied that to Gunnislake.) Ironically, the alignment and gradients of that part of the line were better than the surviving section south of Gunnislake. After closure the station was demolished and the site is now occupied by industrial units.

Kelly Bray (Cornish: Kellivre) is a village in east Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is situated one mile (1.6 km) north of Callington, immediately west of Kit Hill in a former mining area. Kelly Bray is in the parish of Callington and lies within the St Dominick, Harrowbarrow and Kelly Bray division on Cornwall Council. The population was 3,949 at the 2011 census. Kelly Bray is first recorded ca. 1286 as Kellibregh (Cornish "Kellybregh", meaning "dappled grove"). Kelly Bray was formerly the venue for the Royal Cornwall Show until it was moved to Wadebridge. The village was the location of Callington railway station - terminus of a branch line to Plymouth via Gunnislake. The line was closed beyond Gunnislake in 1966.

Kit Hill (Cornish: Bre Skowl), at 334 metres high, dominates the area between Callington and the River Tamar in southeast Cornwall, England, UK. The word 'Kit' comes from Old English for kite, a reference to birds of prey (and not specifically the red kite). Buzzards and sparrowhawks can still be seen on the hill. It is one of five Marilyn hills in Cornwall, the four others are Watch Croft, Brown Willy, Carnmenellis and Hensbarrow Beacon.

Newton Ferrers House, Newton Ferrers, St Mellion, Cornwall was built by Sir William Coryton, a lawyer and politician. The house was built between 1685-95 and was one of the earliest in Cornwall to move from a Tudor to a Classical style. A private house, it is a Grade I listed building.
