Spring Vale, Isle of Wight

Seaview Wildlife Encounter, (formerly Flamingo Park), was a wildlife park featuring non-native species of birds and mammals. It opened in 1971 and closed in November 2015. The visitor attraction was located in the town of Seaview, on the northeast coast of the Isle of Wight. The Isle of Wight is a small British island 3 to 5 mi (5 to 8 km) off the coast of South East England.

Puckpool Battery (map reference SZ615923) is a battery located at Puckpool Point, close to the town of Ryde on the Isle of Wight. It is one of the many Palmerston Forts built on the island to protect it in response to a perceived French invasion. Construction of the battery began in 1863 and was completed by March 1865. During construction of the battery it was decided that it would be armed entirely with 50 of the heaviest mortars - at that time the 13-inch smooth bore mortar. This would enable the battery to provide large amounts of high angle plunging fire into the Solent, targeted at the vulnerable unarmoured decks of warships. In 1873, four gun positions were constructed at the sea face of the battery for four 11-inch Rifled Muzzle Loading (RML) guns. By 1886, these four guns and 30 mortars provided the entire armament of the battery. The following year all of the mortars were removed as they were obsolete by that time. In 1888, a proposal for two 10.4-inch 28-ton RML guns on an Armstrong protected barbette was put forward, and these had been fitted by 1892. They were the only guns of this type to be fitted in Great Britain. In 1901, the armament of the battery was modernised with positions for two 9.2-inch Breech Loading (BL) guns and two 6-inch Breech Loading (BL) guns. The battery was disarmed in 1927 and sold to the local district council the following year. It was brought back into use during the Second World War as HMS Medina to train men of the Fleet Air Arm. It has been used as a public recreational space since that time and has since been designated a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The gun positions are openly accessible and a number of original buildings survive. These include the guard room, barrack block and magazines.

The Alan Hersey Nature Reserve is a nature reserve located on the north east coast of the Isle of Wight between Springvale and Seaview. On a flood plain, fluvial water runs down the valley into the reserve and a culvert passes under the old toll road and down the beach, through which salt water also enters the reserve on the rising tide. Water can only drain into the sea at low tide and as a result, a brackish lake has formed inland along with marshland and reedbeds. No dogs are allowed. The Isle of Wight Council acquired 20 acres (81,000 m2) and manage the site on a 50-year lease along with Natural England, the Environment Agency and local residents. Part of the site is developed for public access, there is a hide for bird watching and the reserve is noted both for its wading birds and wildfowl. The reserve is named after Alan Hersey, a former parish, borough and county councillor who had a great interest in the history and environment of Seaview. The site is a Ramsar site and forms part of the Ryde Sands and Wootton Creek SSSI.

Pondwell is an area between Nettlestone and Ryde on the Isle of Wight, off the southern coast of England. According to the Post Office the population for the area at the 2011 Census was included in the civil parish of Nettlestone and Seaview. The houses are arranged to the south east of a crossroads known as Bullen Cross, which features a vintage electricity junction box from a 19th-century local power generating company. Known as a "supply pillar" it features a once-plentiful "batwing" lantern manufactured by Electric Street Lighting Apparatus (ESLA) of Canterbury. Pondwell is also the site of Seaview Wildlife Encounter – formerly Flamingo Park – a small zoo and waterfowl park. The beach at the bottom of the Salterns was formerly a thriving harbour for timber export; at that time the low-lying land at the foot of Pondwell Hill formed a tidal inlet of the sea known as Barnsley Creek.

Woodlands Vale is a Victorian era house in Seaview on the Isle of Wight. It is a Grade II* listed building.

Seaview is a small Edwardian resort located on the north-eastern corner of the Isle of Wight, overlooking the Solent. The village is popular with tourists and is 2+1⁄3 miles (3.8 km) from the town of Ryde, where most tourists reach the island by ferry or hovercraft. Together with Nettlestone, it forms a civil parish of Nettlestone and Seaview.

St. Peter's Church, Seaview is a parish church in the Church of England located in Seaview, Isle of Wight.

St. Clare Castle was a castellated mansion in Appley on the Isle of Wight. It was the family seat of St Clare, Appley. Her Majesty Queen Victoria and the Prince Consort visited several times, while Princess Alice and Prince Louis honeymooned at St. Clare in 1862. St. Clare Castle is situated on the coast, about a mile east of Ryde. It was the seat of Colonel Francis Vernon-Harcourt. The grounds and gardens are extensive.

Puckpool is a small coastal settlement on the outskirts of Ryde on the Isle of Wight. The area is best known for Puckpool Park, a park with an 18-hole putting green, 12 hole mini golf and two tennis courts. Puckpool Battery is located within the boundaries of the park; this is an old Palmerston Fort built in 1865. Puckpool Point features a natural sheltered bay offering a large expanse of sand and a gently sloping beach which becomes very popular with tourists and local residents during the summer season. A wide pedestrian and cycle promenade leading to Puckpool Point lines the entire bay. Until December 2009 Southern Vectis operated standard bus service 16 which served the area between Ryde and Bembridge via Seaview and St Helens. However, no route currently serves the park and the arrangements for summer 2010 are not known. The Ryde Road Train is also operated during the summer, designed to transport tourists from Ryde to the beach and park at Puckpool.

Nettlestone and Seaview is a civil parish and electoral ward on the Isle of Wight. It contains the villages of Nettlestone and Seaview. Public Transport is provided by Southern Vectis bus route 8, which operates between Ryde, and Newport via Bembridge and Sandown.

Nettlestone is a village on the Isle of Wight, England about 4 miles (6 km) south east from Ryde. It is listed in the Domesday Book and was established c.1086. Together with Seaview, it forms the civil parish of Nettlestone and Seaview. The Priory Bay Hotel between Nettlestone & St Helens is said to be haunted by the ghost of a young lady who died there at the age of 14.Public Transport is provided by Southern Vectis bus route 8, which operates between Ryde and Newport via Seaview, Bembridge and Sandown including intermediate villages, once an hour from Ryde bus station.The local school is Nettlestone Primary which has taught local children since 1905. It moved to its current location in January 1906. The village is home to the Bucks School Camp Association on Eddington Road. Virginia Bottomley was elevated to the peerage as Baroness Bottomley of Nettlestone when she retired from the House of Commons in 2005.

Seaview Chain Pier was built in 1881 at Seaview, near Ryde on the Isle of Wight. The pier was designed by Frank Caws. Construction was from September 1879. The pier was opened in 1881 with finishing work completed in 1882. It was 1,000 foot (300 m) long and had a width of 15 foot (4.6 m). In 1889 the pier was extended to a length of 1,050 foot (320 m) as the result of work to better the landing stage. Traffic was disappointing and in 1901 the pier head was extended at a cost of £505 and amusements were added. Nevertheless 1900 was the last year in which the pier company managed to pay a dividend. In an attempt to improve matters the Seaview steam packet company was formed and began running a service between Seaview Chain Pier and South Parade Pier.The pier was closed from 1915 during World War 1, and in World War 2 it was commandeered by the Royal Navy. It was listed in 1948 but storms damaged it and it was demolished in 1952. It was one of only three chain piers in the British Isles.
