Retiro (Buenos Aires Underground)

Retiro is a station on Line C of the Buenos Aires Underground and is the current terminus. The station is a part of the larger Retiro railway station which connects to the Mitre, San Martín and Belgrano railways, as well as their corresponding commuter rail lines. The station was opened on 6 February 1936 as part of the extension of the line from Diagonal Norte.

It was designed and built in the 1940s and inaugurated on January 4, 1945. Originally called Plaza Británica ("British Square"), its name was changed in 1982 to the current one, by paying homage to the Argentine Air Force after the Falklands War, which was its first war against an external enemy. However, some still refer to it by its old name and also Plaza de los Ingleses ("English Square"), although the latter name was never used officially. The Torre Monumental (formerly "Torre de los Ingleses"), is located in the center of the square.

It was a gift from the local British community to the city in commemoration of the centennial of the May Revolution of 1810. After the Falklands War in 1982, the tower's original name was dropped, though some still call it Torre de los Ingleses.

It also functions as terminal station for the national cargo train General Belgrano Railway. Built in 1912, its Beaux-Arts design makes it one of the most recognizable landmarks of french neoclassicism in the country. The terminal is the fourth-busiest train station in Argentina.

The Monumento a los caídos en Malvinas (transl. Monument to the Fallen in the Falklands) is a cenotaph in Plaza San Martín, in Buenos Aires, dedicated to the 649 Argentine soldiers who were killed in the Falklands War. The inscription reads La nación también rinde homenaje a los que guardan en su cuerpo o memoria las huellas del combate. (transl. The nation also honors those who store in their bodies or their memories the footprints of combat.)

Retiro is a barrio or neighborhood in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Located in the northeast end of the city, Retiro is bordered on the south by the Puerto Madero and San Nicolás, and on the west by the Recoleta.

Retiro bus station (Spanish: Terminal de Ómnibus de Retiro) is the main bus terminal in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is situated in the Retiro district, two blocks north of Retiro railway station.
