Park Heights Historic District

Pimlico Race Course is a thoroughbred horse racetrack in Baltimore, Maryland, most famous for hosting the Preakness Stakes. Its name is derived from the 1660s when English settlers named the area where the facility currently stands in honor of Olde Ben Pimlico's Tavern in London. The racetrack is nicknamed "Old Hilltop" after a small rise in the infield that became a favorite gathering place for thoroughbred trainers and race enthusiasts. It is currently owned by the Stronach Group.

Pimlico is a neighborhood in Baltimore, Maryland. It is the site of Pimlico Race Course, which holds the Preakness Stakes, one of the three legs of the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing. From 1896 through 1915, Pimlico was also the home of Baltimore's Electric Park, a popular amusement park located near the intersection of Reisterstown Road and Belvedere Avenue.

Cylburn is a neighborhood in the North District of Baltimore, located between the neighborhoods of Levindale (north) and Edgecomb (south). Its boundaries are marked by Cylburn Avenue (north), Dupont Avenue (south), Pimlico Road (west) and Greenspring Avenue (east). Central Park Heights, is located on the opposite side of Pimlico Road in the Northwest area of Baltimore City. Cylburn Arboretum (old Elisha Tyson mansion and estate off Greenspring Avenue) and the neighborhood of Cold Spring are located to Cylburn's east, across Greenspring Avenue. The heavily wooded property with its historic mansion and grounds, walking trails, famous collections and gardens overlook the Jones Falls Valley with the Jones Falls Expressway (Interstate 83) further to the east.

Towanda-Grantley is a neighborhood in northwest Baltimore which predominantly consists of attached residential properties which were built in the 1950s. The neighborhood is often described as part of the greater Park Heights area, and includes the West Cold Spring Metro Subway station at its northwestern edge at the intersection of West Cold Spring Lane and Wabash Avenue.

WERQ-FM (92.3 MHz) is a commercial radio station in Baltimore, Maryland. It features an urban contemporary radio format and is owned by Urban One of Silver Spring, Maryland, the largest broadcasting company serving African American audiences in the United States. The studios are located in Woodlawn (they were previously located at Cathy Hughes Plaza in downtown Baltimore). WERQ-FM has an effective radiated power of 37,000 watts. The transmitter is on Park Heights Avenue at Boarman Avenue in the Park Heights section of Baltimore. WERQ-FM broadcasts using HD Radio technology; the HD2 digital subchannel carries urban gospel programming from co-owned WWIN, while the HD3 subchannel simulcasts the black talk programming of WOLB.

Levindale is a neighborhood in northwest Baltimore which includes Sinai Hospital, the Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital, and a small number of detached homes and apartment buildings towards its south.The Levindale-Sunset Community Association is an organizational body for residents of the area, which is often described in conjunction with the nearby communities of Cylburn, Park Heights, Pimlico, Arlington, and Hilltop due to its small size.

Langston Hughes is a neighborhood in the Northwest District of Baltimore, located between the neighborhoods of Central Park Heights (east) and Woodmere. Its roughly pentagonal boundaries are marked by West Belvedere Avenue (northwest), Litchfield Avenue (northeast), Reisterstown Road (south) and Oakmont Avenue (east).A predominantly black community, the neighborhood of Langston Hughes is named for the black poet and novelist, Langston Hughes. Langston Hughes Elementary School, located within the neighborhood at 5011 Arbutus Avenue, also bears the poet's name.

Edgecomb, also known as Parklane, is a neighborhood in the North District of Baltimore, located between the neighborhoods of Cylburn (north) and Greenspring (south). Its boundaries are marked by Dupont Avenue (north), Coldspring Lane (south), Pimlico Road (west) and Greenspring Avenue (east). Central Park Heights, is located on the opposite side of Pimlico Road in the Northwest District. The neighborhood of Coldspring is located to Edgecomb's east, across Greenspring Avenue.

West Cold Spring station is a Metro SubwayLink station in Baltimore, Maryland. It is located at the intersection of Wabash Avenue and Cold Spring Lane in the Arlington neighborhood, adjacent to the Towanda-Grantley neighborhood. It is the sixth most northern and western station on the line, with approximately 300 parking spaces.The station features the sculpture "Wabash Outcrop" by Jim Sanborn. In 2021, funding was allocated for a community driven public art project, Towanda LaneScape, adjacent to West Cold Spring station.

Arlington is a neighborhood in Northwest Baltimore, Maryland. Major streets running through the area include Wabash Avenue, Rogers Avenue, Dolfield Avenue, and West Belvedere Avenue. Two Baltimore Metro Subway stations, Rogers Avenue and West Coldspring are located in the area.

Sinai Hospital is an American private hospital based in Baltimore, Maryland, that was founded in 1866 as the Hebrew Hospital and Asylum. It is now a Jewish-sponsored teaching hospital that provides care for patients in the greater Baltimore City, Baltimore County and surrounding communities. The implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) was invented here by the team of Dr. Michel Mirowski, Dr. Morton Mower, M. Stephen Heilman, and Alois Langer who are all in the National Inventors Hall of Fame for their achievement. Since 1998, Sinai Hospital has been a part of the LifeBridge Health system, which also runs Northwest Hospital in Randallstown, Carroll Hospital in Westminster, Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Nursing Home (which is across the street from Sinai), Grace Medical Center in West Baltimore City, Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics, several medical office buildings in the Baltimore area, and a health and fitness club called LifeBridge Health & Fitness, located in Pikesville, Maryland. Sinai Hospital is located in Northwest Baltimore along Belvedere Avenue, near the intersection of Northern Parkway and Greenspring Avenue, and about a block away from Pimlico Race Course. The entrance to the emergency department known as ER-7 is accessible from Greenspring Avenue. The hospital itself is also surrounded by Cylburn and Lanier Avenues. The hospital is very close to exit 10 off Interstate 83. Several public bus lines operated by the Maryland Transit Administration serve the hospital, including Routes 1, 27, 44, and 91.

Park Heights is an area of Baltimore City, Maryland, that lies approximately 5 miles northwest of downtown Baltimore and within two miles of the Baltimore County line. A 1,500-acre community, Park Heights comprises 12 smaller neighborhoods that together contain approximately 30,000 residents. It is bounded on the south by Druid Park Drive, on the west by Wabash Avenue, on the east by Greenspring Avenue, and on the north by Northern Parkway. Interstate-83 is less than a half mile to the east. Two major roadways—Park Heights Avenue and Reisterstown Road—run north-south through Park Heights, serving as the neighborhood's "Main Streets" as well as commuter corridors. Limited commercial uses—primarily retail—are scattered along these roads; there is also some industrial activity on the neighborhood's western edge.Otherwise, Park Heights is characterized by residential uses, which run the spectrum from stable, well-tended streets to entire blocks of abandoned houses and lots. Major health care, educational, and social service institutions are located throughout the community, as well as one of Baltimore and the State of Maryland's most well-known landmarks, Pimlico Race Track.The boundaries of Park Heights, as defined by the Baltimore City Planning Department, are bounded north and south by Park Circle and Northern Parkway and east and west by Greenspring and Wabash Avenues, respectively; and includes the neighborhoods of Arlington, Central Park Heights, Cylburn, Greenspring, Langston Hughes, Levindale, Lucille Park, the historic Park Circle, Park Lane, Pimlico Good Neighbor, Towanda/Grantley, Woodmere. Park Heights boasts one of the largest foreign born Black populations in Baltimore City, specifically in the areas surrounding Belvedere Avenue, with immigrants from Jamaica, Trinidad, Haiti, and other Caribbean countries.
