The Astley Deep Pit disaster was a mining accident at the Astley Deep Pit, in Dukinfield, Cheshire, England, that took place on 14 April 1874, killing 54 men and boys. Astley Deep Pit was a coal mine started around 1845 to work the seam of coal known as the "Lancashire Black Mine". When finished, it was supposedly the deepest coal-mine in Britain and cost £100,000 to sink.

Ashton-under-Lyne is a constituency in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament. It has been represented since 2015 by Angela Rayner, who has served as Deputy Leader of the Labour Party since 2020.

The Ashton-under-Lyne munitions explosion occurred on 13 June 1917 when the Hooley Hill Rubber and Chemical Works caught fire and exploded. The factory was engaged in the production of TNT for the war effort and was completely destroyed. Forty-three people were killed and most of the surrounding area was left devastated.

Dukinfield Town Hall is a municipal building in King Street, Dukinfield, Greater Manchester, England. The town hall, which was the headquarters of Dukinfield Borough Council, is a grade II listed building.

Dukinfield Central Railway Station served the town of Dukinfield from 1864 until 1959. It was situated on Wharf Street, near Station Street and adjacent to the Peak Forest Canal - the line from the station went over the canal on a cast-iron bridge, which is still there (2014). It is believed the bridge was cast locally and was the first cast-iron railway bridge ever built. The station platform extended out over the bridge. The station was built on a series of stone arches, one of which served as a subway between the two platforms and is still in existence today (2014), but is now used as a tyre storage area. There are still signs of the platforms.

Hooley Hill Railway Station served the Hooley Hill area of Audenshaw and was located on the Denton to Stalybridge Stalybridge Junction Railway. This was built & opened by the London and North Western Railway in 1893 to avoid the busy junctions at Guide Bridge and provide the company with its own route between Stalybridge & Stockport. The Bradshaws timetable for 1922 listed 11 southbound & 12 northbound trains calling on Mondays to Saturdays, but none on Sundays. The station was closed to passenger traffic by British Railways on 25 September 1950, shortly after nationalisation.

The Junction Mills were cotton spinning and weaving mills to the west of the Portland Basin in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, in England. They were built between 1831 and 1890 for the Samuel Heginbottom and his sons. The firm went out of business in 1930, and all the buildings have been demolished but the 210 feet (64 m) octagonal chimney, built in 1867, and typical of that period has been preserved in situ.

Audenshaw railway station served the Audenshaw area of Greater Manchester, then part of the county of Lancashire in England. The station was originally called Hooley Hill (Guide Bridge) as the original Audenshaw station opened by the London and North Western Railway closed in 1905.

Dukinfield Junction (grid reference SJ933984) is the name of the canal junction where the Peak Forest Canal, the Ashton Canal and the Huddersfield Narrow Canal meet near Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, England. The area has been designated by Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council as a conservation area.It is adjacent to Portland Basin, and the names are often used as synonyms by boaters, whilst locals refer only to Portland Basin. Strictly speaking, Portland Basin is the wide area on the main line of the canal. The arm under the junction bridge and the aqueduct over the River Tame were built by the Ashton Canal, and the junction with the Peak Forest canal was historically at the southern end of the aqueduct.

The Outer Pennine Ring is an English canal ring which crosses the Pennines between Manchester, Leeds and Castleford. Its route follows parts of eight canals, and includes the longest canal tunnel in England. The ring was completed in 2001, with the opening of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal. Much of the route is shared with the North Pennine Ring, which crosses the Pennines by a different route on the southern leg.
