The North Carolina State Fair is an American state fair and agricultural exposition held annually in Raleigh, North Carolina. Founded in 1853, the fair is organized by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. It attracts around a million visitors over eleven days in mid-October.The fair consists of carnival rides, agricultural exhibitions and competitions, food, music, demonstrations, and garden and craft displays. The North Carolina State Fair is one of the largest and oldest state fairs in the United States.

State Fairgrounds Speedway, located at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds in Raleigh, North Carolina, was a half-mile oval dirt racetrack which was the site of auto races for NASCAR's top series in 1955, 1969, and 1970. The race on September 30, 1970 was the final Grand National race ever held on a dirt track, until the 2021 season. It was won by Richard Petty in a Plymouth that had been sold by Petty Enterprises to Don Robertson and rented back for the race.While the track itself has largely been removed, the grandstand, now called the Sam G. Rand Grandstand, remains and is used for events related to the North Carolina State Fair.

J. S. Dorton Arena is a 7,610-seat multi-purpose arena located in Raleigh, North Carolina, on the grounds of the North Carolina State Fair. It opened in 1952. Architect Maciej Nowicki of the North Carolina State University Department of Architecture was killed in an airplane crash before the construction phase. Local architect William Henley Dietrick supervised the completion of the arena using Nowicki's innovative design. Said design features a steel cable supported saddle-shaped roof in tension, held up by parabolic concrete arches in compression. The arches cross about 20 feet above ground level and continue underground, where their ends are held together by more steel cables in tension. The outer walls of the arena support next to no weight at all. Dorton Arena was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on April 11, 1973. Originally named the "State Fair Arena", it was dedicated to Dr. J. S. Dorton, former North Carolina State Fair manager, in 1961.In the past, it has hosted many sporting events, concerts, political rallies and circuses.

North Carolina State Fair station is a seasonal Amtrak station serving the North Carolina State Fairground in Raleigh, North Carolina. It is served by Amtrak's Carolinian and Piedmont trains when the fair is in operation in mid-October.The station waiting area is a tent on the west corner of Blue Ridge Road and south corner of Hillsborough Street. There are no ticketing services on site. A wheelchair lift stored near the grade crossing provides accessibility to passengers. Across the tracks from the fairgrounds is an abandoned freight spur leading to what is today a North Carolina Department of Transportation equipment storage facility along Beryl Road, as well as another one leading to what is now a storage warehouse. Sidetracks exist on both sides of the tracks between Powell Drive and Blue Ridge Road.

The Centennial Biomedical Campus is 250 acres (1.0 km2) of property owned and operated by North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina, United States. It is located five minutes west of the NC State's main campus and is considered part of Centennial Campus, the university's research and educational campus footprint. Centennial Biomedical Campus is home to NC State's College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM). Ranked 5th among the nation's 28 colleges of veterinary medicine in the current (2007) listing by U.S. News & World Report, the College of Veterinary Medicine offers graduate courses three departments — Clinical Sciences, Molecular Biomedical Sciences, and Population Health & Pathobiology. In addition, the college focuses on six specific program areas: Companion Animal Medicine, Food Supply Medicine, Biomedical Research, Ecosystem health, Equine Medicine, and Animal Welfare. CMV treats and diagnoses more than 20,000 patients each year. The college opened in 1981 with an initial enrollment of 40 students. The college now boasts a student enrollment of over 450.The Centennial Biomedical Campus also houses the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, a major referral center for veterinarians from throughout the Southeast, where more than 20,000 animals a year are treated. In 2011, the Randall B. Terry Jr. Companion Animal Veterinary Medical Center opened. The 110,000 square-foot Terry Center is expected to be a national model for excellence in companion animal medicine. Also located on campus is the 100,000-square-foot (9,300 m2) CVM Research Building, which holds the Center for Comparative Medicine and Translational Research and houses research activities in genomic sciences, gene therapy, vaccine development, creation of diagnostic tests, new cancer immuno-therapy, and genetic research to prevent inherited and acquired diseases in livestock and comparative animals. The campus houses a Biosafety level 3 laboratory.Future plans call for the 47,500-square-foot (4,410 m2) Flexible Biosciences Lab Building (or Flex Building), which will hold “wet lab” space for corporate and institutional tenants who intend to collaborate with NC State researchers.

North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine is an American educational institution located in Raleigh, North Carolina that offers master's and doctorate-level degree programs; interdisciplinary research in a range of veterinary and comparative medicine topics through centers, institutes, programs and laboratories; and external engagement through public service programs and activities.

Wayne Day Family Field at Carter–Finley Stadium is home to the NC State Wolfpack football team. It was opened in 1966 and has a current seating capacity of 56,919 seats.

PNC Arena (originally Raleigh Entertainment & Sports Arena and formerly the RBC Center) is an indoor arena located in Raleigh, North Carolina. The arena seats 18,700 for ice hockey and 19,500 for basketball, including 61 suites, 13 luxury boxes and 2,000 club seats. The building has three concourses and a 300-seat restaurant. PNC Arena is home to the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League and the NC State Wolfpack men's basketball team of NCAA Division I. The arena neighbors Carter–Finley Stadium, home of Wolfpack Football; the North Carolina State Fairgrounds and Dorton Arena (on the Fairgrounds). The arena also hosted the Carolina Cobras of the Arena Football League from 2000 to 2002. It is the fourth-largest arena in the ACC (after the JMA Wireless Dome, KFC Yum! Center and the Dean Smith Center) and the eighth-largest arena in the NCAA. The arena opened in 1999 at an estimated construction cost of $158 million. Taxpayers covered half of the construction cost while the team paid the other half. In 2023, the Hurricanes signed an agreement with local government to lease the arena for 20 years in exchange for $300 million in public subsidies for renovations to the arena. As part of the deal, Hurricanes billionaire owner Tom Dundon said he would develop surrounding vacant land into an $800 million mixed-use development.

The JC Raulston Arboretum is a 10-acre (40,000 m2) arboretum and botanical garden administered by North Carolina State University, and located in Raleigh, North Carolina. It is open daily to the public without charge.

The North Carolina National Guard (NCNG), commonly known as the North Carolina guard, is a component of the North Carolina Department of Public Safety and the National Guard of the United States. It is composed of Army and Air National Guard units. The adjutant general's office is located in Raleigh.

Meredith Township (also designated Township 11) is one of twenty townships within Wake County, North Carolina, United States. As of the 2010 census, Meredith Township had a population of 13,926, a 21.2% increase over 2000. Meredith Township, occupying 9.6 square miles (24.8 km2) in central Wake County, is almost completely occupied by portions of the city of Raleigh.

Cloud Chamber for the Trees and Sky is a site specific outdoor artwork by Chris Drury. It was commissioned by North Carolina Museum of Art in 2003 made possible by the Robert F. Phifer Bequest and located in the 146 acre museum park adjacent to the museum known as the Ann and Jim Goodnight Museum Park at state capital Raleigh. The artwork is situated in woodland with other large sculptures and is accessed along a woodland path.The chamber itself is a round building built of stone, wood, and turf approximately 12 feet in diameter (3.66 metres) with a single door to admit the viewer. It is light-tight when its door is closed, except for one small, round opening in its roof which allows the building to act as a camera obscura. Images of the sun, clouds, and trees are projected onto the smooth white walls of the interior of the chamber. Classed as a public artwork, there is no admission charge to the park.
