Midwest Express Airlines Flight 007

Midwest Express Airlines Flight 105 was a scheduled domestic passenger flight that crashed into an open field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin shortly after taking off from General Mitchell International Airport on September 6, 1985. The airplane, a Douglas DC-9, was carrying 31 passengers and crew. None of them survived the crash. Multiple eyewitnesses reported that the plane was on fire shortly after it took off from the airport. The fire was caused due to a failure on the right engine where one of its removable sleeve spacers detached. The removable sleeve spacer suffered metal fatigue that caused the engine to explode. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the investigation team who was responsible for the investigation of the crash, concluded that despite the plane suffering engine failure, it was still controllable, and instead the response of the crew to the failure was the main cause of the accident. The crew failed to properly control the plane during the emergency. Breakdown of the crew's coordination also contributed to the crash.

New Coeln (also called New Cöln, New Koeln and New Köln) is a neighborhood, formerly a rural hamlet in the Town of Lake of Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States, but now part of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was settled by a group of German immigrants from the area around Cologne (German Köln) in the 1840s. By 1847, there were about fifty settlers, and a new Catholic parish, St. Stephen's, was formed. In the 1898 Hand Book of Wisconsin: Its History and Geography ... and Resources, Industries, and Commerce, it is listed as having a population of 35, and is described as follows:It has a blacksmith shop and a daily mail. The portion of the former settlement west of Howell Avenue is now part of the grounds of General Mitchell International Airport, but the inn known variously as Deuster's Saloon, New Coeln House, and the New Coeln House Dancehall is still open (currently branded as the Landmark 1850 Inn), and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Renaissance Books is a large independent bookstore originally located in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin, specializing in used books. Founded in the 1950s by George John and Erwin Just, it is now owned by Robert John, George's younger brother. The store's former main building (a former furniture warehouse) was five stories high (plus the two-story building next door and another down the block) housing somewhere from 350,000 to 600,000 volumes. The New York Times described it as "like a book collector’s attic, with boxes of used books lining the floor of this century-old former furniture store. But it’s more organized than it looks, with about a half-million books parceled among dozens of categories ('animal husbandry' 'theater practices and problems')". The local Milwaukee Journal Sentinel described it as, "bursting at the seams with used books... easy to get lost among the mazelike shelves."

The Wisconsin Sikh temple shooting was a mass shooting that took place at the gurdwara (Sikh temple) in Oak Creek, Wisconsin on August 5, 2012 when 40-year-old Wade Michael Page fatally shot six people and wounded four others. A seventh victim died of his wounds in 2020. Page committed suicide by shooting himself in the head after he was shot in the hip by police.Page was an American white supremacist and Army veteran from Cudahy, Wisconsin. Apart from the shooter, all of the dead were members of the Sikh faith. The incident drew responses from President Barack Obama and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Dignitaries attended candlelight vigils in countries such as the U.S., Canada, and India. First Lady Michelle Obama visited the temple on August 23, 2012.

Milwaukee Airport Railroad Station is an Amtrak railway station located near the western edge of Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States. It is served by the seven daily round trips of the Hiawatha Service, with a free shuttle between the station and the airport terminal. The station opened on January 18, 2005.

The South Milwaukee Passenger Station is a historic railroad station located at 1111 Milwaukee Ave., South Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The station was built in 1893 for the Chicago & Northwestern Railway replacing a frame depot from 1885. Architect Charles Sumner Frost designed the Romanesque station. The depot, located on the east (southbound) platform, included ladies and gentlemen's waiting rooms, restrooms, a ticket office, freight office, train dispatcher's office, and two large rooms for baggage, express, and storage. Following complaints from station agent Edwin Myers in 1947, the station was renovated. The arched porch area and several doorways were bricked in and many of the windows were boarded up with plywood.In 1971, the station closed when the line was cut back from Milwaukee to Kenosha. Amtrak soon replaced private passenger rail service in the United States. The depot was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

The South Milwaukee Post Office is a Neoclassical-styled U.S. Post office built in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1931. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.
