Beauty World Centre

Beauty World Plaza is a housing and shopping complex at the junction of Upper Bukit Timah Road and Bukit Timah Link in Bukit Timah, Singapore. Built in the 1980s, the mall had its heyday in the 1990s, though its popularity declined significantly after. In the late 2010s, there were two unsuccessful attempts to sell the complex.

Beauty World Market was an open-air market that was opened in July 1947 in Singapore. It was located at the junction of Upper Bukit Timah Road and Jalan Jurong Kechil. Just next to it was Beauty World Town, another shopping place opened in 1962. It was located at the junction of Upper Bukit Timah Road and Chun Tin Road. Both shopping areas were completely demolished by 1984 due to frequent fire outbreaks. The original site of the market had since been occupied by two Parking lots and Beauty World MRT Station.

Bukit Timah Shopping Centre is a mixed-use development at the junction of Upper Bukit Timah Road and Jalan Anak Bukit in Bukit Timah, Singapore. Completed in the late 1970s, it comprised an eight-storey retail podium below a 14-storey residential tower block which was to house both regular apartments and studio apartments intended as an "office cum living area." The mall had its heyday in the late 1970s and the 1980s, though it declined in popularity soon after, with maid agencies, centres for learning and renovation companies popping up in vacated units. Its apartments have since been converted into offices.

Beauty World MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the Downtown Line (DTL) in Bukit Timah, Singapore. Located along Upper Bukit Timah Road, this station took its name from the historic Beauty World, an amusement park and market that once stood in the vicinity. Beauty World station primarily serves the residential estates along Jalan Jurong Kechil and Toh Yi Drive, as well as Beauty World Centre, Beauty World Plaza and Bukit Timah Shopping Centre. It is also within walking distances to Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Bukit Timah market & food centre, Bukit Timah Community Club, Bukit Timah Tua Pek Kong Temple and Bee Low See Temple. The section of tracks between this station and Hillview MRT station is the longest between any two MRT stations on the Downtown Line till 2025. There are basic structural provisions for a future station (also known as a "box station") along this section of tracks near Hume Avenue. Hume MRT station was confirmed on 7 March 2019 and is to be operational by 2025.

The Former Bukit Timah Fire Station (BTFS) (also known as the Old Bukit Timah Fire Station and the Bukit Timah Fire Station), located in Upper Bukit Timah Road, Singapore, was a fire station. It is planned to be redesigned into a community centre for nature. It is nearby the upcoming Hume MRT station. BTFS is also located nearby other heritage sites such as the Former Ford Factory, Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, and the Bukit Timah Memorial.

Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) is a post-secondary education institution and statutory board under the purview of the Ministry of Education in Singapore. Established in 1963, the polytechnic is renowned for its business programmes.

The Bukit Timah Truss Bridge is a former railway bridge going over Bukit Timah Road and Dunearn Road in Bukit Timah, Singapore.

Rifle Range Nature Park is a nature park in Bukit Timah, Singapore. Rifle Range Nature Park was opened on 12 November 2022 and is located along Rifle Range Road and Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. Rifle Range Nature Park is also Singapore's first net positive energy nature park. Rifle Range Nature Park is the eighth park in the Central Nature Park Network. Rifle Range Nature Park was also built to protect Bukit Timah Nature Reserve.

Bukit Timah railway station was a former railway station and crossing loop in Bukit Timah, Singapore. Opened on the dismantled Tank Road mainline in 1903, it was rebuilt on the current Singapore–Johor Bahru KTM Intercity mainline in 1932, until the Jurong Line shut down and it became a crossing loop station in the late 1940s until closure. The station was a freight interchange for the now defunct Jurong Line from 1965 to the early 1990s. The station closed in 2011, and it is now a conserved recreational building and museum that is part of the Rail Corridor.

The Bukit Batok Memorial is located on top of the tranquil Bukit Batok Hill upon which once stood two war memorials built by Australian POWs to commemorate the war dead of the Japanese and the Allies who fought during the decisive Battle of Bukit Timah in Singapore during the Second World War. The two memorials were destroyed after the war and only the road and stairs that used to lead to them mark its legacy today.

The Fall of Singapore, also known as the Battle of Singapore, took place in the South–East Asian theatre of the Pacific War. The Empire of Japan captured the British stronghold of Singapore, with fighting lasting from 8 to 15 February 1942. Singapore was the foremost British military base and economic port in South–East Asia and had been of great importance to British interwar defence strategy. The capture of Singapore resulted in the largest British surrender in its history. Prior to the battle, Japanese General Tomoyuki Yamashita had advanced with about 30,000 men down the Malayan Peninsula in the Malayan campaign. The British erroneously considered the jungle terrain impassable, leading to a swift Japanese advance as Allied defences were quickly outflanked. The British Lieutenant-General, Arthur Percival, commanded 85,000 Allied troops at Singapore, although many units were under-strength and most units lacked experience. The British outnumbered the Japanese but much of the water for the island was drawn from reservoirs on the mainland. The British destroyed the causeway, forcing the Japanese into an improvised crossing of the Johore Strait. Singapore was considered so important that Prime Minister Winston Churchill ordered Percival to fight to the last man. The Japanese attacked the weakest part of the island defences and established a beachhead on 8 February. Percival had expected a crossing in the north and failed to reinforce the defenders in time. Communication and leadership failures beset the Allies and there were few defensive positions or reserves near the beachhead. The Japanese advance continued and the Allies began to run out of supplies. By 15 February, about a million civilians in the city were crammed into the remaining area held by Allied forces, 1 per cent of the island. Japanese aircraft continuously bombed the civilian water supply which was expected to fail within days. The Japanese were also almost at the end of their supplies and Yamashita wanted to avoid costly house-to-house fighting. For the second time since the battle began, Yamashita demanded unconditional surrender and that afternoon, Percival capitulated. About 80,000 British, Indian, Australian and local troops became prisoners of war, joining the 50,000 taken in Malaya and many died of neglect, abuse or forced labour. Three days after the British surrender, the Japanese began the Sook Ching purge, killing thousands of civilians. The Japanese held Singapore until the end of the war. About 40,000, mostly conscripted, Indian soldiers joined the Indian National Army and fought with the Japanese in the Burma campaign. Churchill called it the worst disaster in British military history. The Sinking of Prince of Wales and Repulse soon after the Japanese landings on Malaya, the fall of Singapore and other defeats in 1942, severely undermined British prestige, which contributed to the end of British colonial rule in the region after the war.
