Ashton Old Baths

The Ashton Canal is a canal in Greater Manchester, England, linking Manchester with Ashton-under-Lyne.

The Outer Pennine Ring is an English canal ring which crosses the Pennines between Manchester, Leeds and Castleford. Its route follows parts of eight canals, and includes the longest canal tunnel in England. The ring was completed in 2001, with the opening of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal. Much of the route is shared with the North Pennine Ring, which crosses the Pennines by a different route on the southern leg.

Dukinfield Junction (grid reference SJ933984) is the name of the canal junction where the Peak Forest Canal, the Ashton Canal and the Huddersfield Narrow Canal meet near Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, England. The area has been designated by Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council as a conservation area.It is adjacent to Portland Basin, and the names are often used as synonyms by boaters, whilst locals refer only to Portland Basin. Strictly speaking, Portland Basin is the wide area on the main line of the canal. The arm under the junction bridge and the aqueduct over the River Tame were built by the Ashton Canal, and the junction with the Peak Forest canal was historically at the southern end of the aqueduct.

The Junction Mills were cotton spinning and weaving mills to the west of the Portland Basin in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, in England. They were built between 1831 and 1890 for the Samuel Heginbottom and his sons. The firm went out of business in 1930, and all the buildings have been demolished but the 210 feet (64 m) octagonal chimney, built in 1867, and typical of that period has been preserved in situ.

Tudor Mill was cotton spinning mill in Ashton-under-Lyne, in the historic county of Lancashire, (now Greater Manchester) England. It was built between 1901 and 1903 for the Ashton Syndicate by Sydney Stott of Oldham. Tudor Mill was next to the Ashton Canal Warehouse at Portland Basin. It ceased spinning cotton in the 1960s and was used as a warehouse until it was destroyed by fire in 1970

The Witchwood is a pub and live music venue in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, England. Located in Ashton's town centre, The Witchwood has been a hub for live indie and rock music since the 1960s, and features on North West England's pub music circuit. Previous performers at The Witchwood include Oasis, Badly Drawn Boy, The Coral, Snow Patrol, The Seahorses, James, Ash, The fall, Lostprophets, Muse, Opeth, The Damned, Sean Ryder, Glenn Tilbrook, the Hamsters and The Ordinary Boys; as well as popular local bands, including Perm, This Is Bracewell, Rock 'n' Roll outfit Bad Habits, double act Stuart Clarke & Shaun Pickles and Shadowlands. In 2004, Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council served a compulsory purchase order on The Witchwood, as plans for the regeneration of the surrounding area required the building to be demolished. After a campaign to save the venue, supported by local musicians and businesses, and live music fans from across the country, Ask Developments agreed that The Witchwood would stay, on condition that "the exterior would be re-rendered and new windows put in". The campaign to save The Witchwood was led by Tom Hingley and supported by musicians such as Bert Jansch, the Fall, and The Chameleons.

The Old Street drill hall is a former military installation in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, England.

St Peter's Church is in Manchester Road, Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Ashton-under-Lyne, the archdeaconry of Rochdale, and the diocese of Manchester.With four other local churches, it is part of the Parish of the Good Shepherd, Ashton-under-Lyne. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building. It is a Commissioners' Church, having received a grant towards its construction from the Church Building Commission. The authors of the Buildings of England series consider it to be a "large and ambitious" church. In the National Heritage List for England it is described as a "particularly imposing and elaborate example of a Commissioners' Church".

Ashton Club Ground was a cricket ground in Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire. The first recorded match on the ground was in 1863, when Ashton-under-Lyne played All-England Eleven.In 1865, the ground acted as a neutral venue when it held its only first-class match between Cambridgeshire and Yorkshire, with the match ending in a draw.

Cavendish Mill is a Grade II* listed former cotton spinning mill in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, in the United Kingdom. It was built between 1884 and 1885 for the Cavendish Spinning Company by Potts, Pickup & Dixon of Oldham. Cavendish Mill was next to the Ashton Canal Warehouse at Portland Basin. It ceased spinning cotton in 1934 and was then used for a variety of purposes before it was converted into housing in 1994.

Dukinfield Central Railway Station served the town of Dukinfield from 1864 until 1959. It was situated on Wharf Street, near Station Street and adjacent to the Peak Forest Canal - the line from the station went over the canal on a cast-iron bridge, which is still there (2014). It is believed the bridge was cast locally and was the first cast-iron railway bridge ever built. The station platform extended out over the bridge. The station was built on a series of stone arches, one of which served as a subway between the two platforms and is still in existence today (2014), but is now used as a tyre storage area. There are still signs of the platforms.
