Stockport Castle was a promontory castle in Stockport, Cheshire. The castle was in the medieval town, overlooking a ford over the River Mersey. It was first documented in 1173, but the next mention of it is in 1535 when it was in ruins. What remained of the castle was demolished in 1775.

On 4 June 1967 a Canadair C-4 Argonaut passenger aircraft owned by British Midland Airways crashed near the centre of Stockport, Cheshire, England. Of the 84 people on board, 72 were killed. It is the fourth-worst accident in British aviation history.

Stockport power station supplied electricity to the town of Stockport, Cheshire and the surrounding area from 1899 to 1976. The power station was owned and operated by Stockport Corporation prior to the nationalisation of the British electricity supply industry in 1948. It was redeveloped several times to meet the increased demand for electricity.

The Arden Arms is a Grade II listed public house on the corner of Millgate and Corporation Street in Stockport, Greater Manchester, England. Built around 1815, it stands on a site with a long history of pub use, with an inn recorded here in 1709 under the name "Ye Blew Stoops", which was already considered old at the time. The pub was acquired by Robinsons Brewery in 1889, making it one of the company's earliest tied houses. The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) regards its interior as being of "outstanding national historic importance", rating it three stars in its national inventory.

St Mary's Church is the oldest parish church in the town of Stockport, Greater Manchester, England. It stands in Churchgate overlooking the market place. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building. It is an active Anglican parish church in the diocese of Chester, the archdeaconry of Macclesfield and the deanery of Stockport.

Strawberry Studios was a recording studio in Stockport, historically in Cheshire, now within Greater Manchester, England. Founded in 1968, it operated until the early 1990s. Strawberry Studios became one of the finest professional recording studios in the United Kingdom outside London used by a range of artists including 10cc, Joy Division, Neil Sedaka, Barclay James Harvest, The Smiths, The Stone Roses, The Moody Blues, Paul McCartney, Wax and Cliff Richard.

Stockport is an industrial town in Greater Manchester, England, 7 miles (11 km) south-east of Manchester, 9 miles (14 km) south-west of Ashton-under-Lyne and 12 miles (19 km) north of Macclesfield. The River Goyt and Tame merge to create the River Mersey here. It is the main settlement of the wider Metropolitan Borough of Stockport. Most of the town is within the boundaries of the historic county of Cheshire, with the area north of the Mersey in the historic county of Lancashire. Stockport in the 16th century was a small town entirely on the south bank of the Mersey, known for the cultivation of hemp and manufacture of rope. In the 18th century, it had one of the first mechanised silk factories in the British Isles. Stockport's predominant industries of the 19th century were the cotton and allied industries. It was also at the centre of the country's hatting industry, which by 1884 was exporting more than six million hats a year; the last hat works in Stockport closed in 1997. The town's football club, Stockport County, is nicknamed 'The Hatters'. Dominating the western approaches to the town is Stockport Viaduct. Built in 1840, its 27 brick arches carry the mainline railways passing through the town over the River Mersey.

The Bull's Head is a Grade II listed former public house on Market Place in Stockport, Greater Manchester, England. Although the present building dates from the mid‑19th century, a pub of the same name stood on the site from at least the early 18th century and was a venue for political gatherings in the early 19th century. It was acquired by Robinsons Brewery in 1917. The building has been closed since 2011, and a refurbishment announced in 2020 has not been followed by any further updates as of May 2026.

The Peel Centre is a retail park located in Stockport, Greater Manchester. It is owned by The Peel Group and in 2010 extended to 230,000 sq ft (21,000 m2) across 20 units. Nearby town centre shopping areas, include the Merseyway Shopping Centre.

The Boar's Head (officially listed as the Boars Head Hotel) is a Grade II listed former public house on the corner of Vernon Street and Market Place in Stockport, Greater Manchester, England. Built in the early 19th century, it received a new frontage to Market Place later in the century. The pub, owned by Samuel Smith's, closed in November 2024 while the freehold owner sought a new tenant, and as of May 2026 no update on its future has been published.

The Plaza is a Grade II* listed art deco single-screen cinema and theatre in Mersey Square, Stockport, England. It opened in 1932, its construction having involved the excavation of the sandstone cliff behind it. After an initial closure in 1966 and a subsequent period in use as a bingo hall by Rank Leiure, it has now been restored as a cinema and theatre, showing films and staging live shows.
