West Oval

The City of Geelong West was a local government area about 5 kilometres (3 mi) west of the regional city of Geelong, Victoria, Australia. The city covered an area of 5.26 square kilometres (2.0 sq mi), and existed from 1875 until 1993.

Geelong West is a commercial and residential suburb of Geelong, Victoria, Australia. When Geelong was founded, the area was known as Kildare but its name was changed to Geelong West in 1875. The main street is Pakington Street. At the 2016 census, Geelong West had a population of 6,966.

The Geelong Golf Club is a defunct golf club founded in 1892 and was the oldest in the state of Victoria, Australia. It was located in the northern Geelong suburb of North Geelong and maintained an 18-hole course bounded by Ballarat Road and bisected by Thompson Road. The club ran into financial difficulties, $250,000 in 2001 and management of the club was taken over by PGA Links on 18 February 2002. Within 18 months, the sister company of PGA Links, Links Group had bought the Geelong Golf Club outright for $3.1 million. The 146 acres (59 ha) in the middle of Geelong was then valued at up to $18 million.The Links Group hoped to build 200 houses and a new nine-hole course on the site, closed the course in July 2004 when the City of Greater Geelong denied planning permission for the scheme. A revised plan was put on public display in May 2005, and referred to an independent panel in November the same year. The site was then put up for sale, before being taken off the market in May 2008. with the site now value at between $20 million and $25 million. The site remains unoccupied as of 2008. The golf course was closed for a number of years during its re-development of the site and has since re-opened as a nine-hole course. Geelong Golf Club Residential Estate In late 2013 construction of the Geelong Golf Club Residential Estate began, with plans for 350 new homes, parks and 9-hole golf course included as a part of the redevelopment. Now in 2021 there is a 9-hole Golf course with housing skirting it’s fairways.

Drumcondra () is a wealthy residential bayside suburb of Geelong, Victoria, Australia, overlooking Corio Bay. It is the smallest suburb in Geelong and one of the smallest in Victoria. It was named after Drumcondra, which is an inner suburb of Dublin, Ireland. At the 2016 census, Drumcondra had a population of 560.Its boundaries are the Melbourne Road, Glenleith Avenue, The Esplanade and Bell Parade. It is classified as a "block" with its main road being Beach Parade, with only 9 streets in total and around 200 houses. Some of Geelong's most-prized and valuable real estate is located along here.The area was established with the first house built on the site of 5 Glenleith Avenue in April 1912. The houses then were continued to be built on that street in that year, making 2012 their 100th anniversary. The mansion Lunan House is located in the suburb, built of Barrabool sandstone for wool merchant James Strahan in 1849. In later years it became a teachers college, before being converted back to a private house. The house is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register.

Rippleside () is a suburb of Geelong, Victoria, Australia. The suburb overlooks Corio Bay. At the 2016 census, Rippleside had a population of 875.Rippleside adjoins Drumcondra, 2.5 kilometres (1.6 mi) north of Geelong City on Corio Bay. The locality covers the suburban area bounded by Corio Bay, East Victoria Street (the Western section is a part of North Geelong and separated by a pedestrian underpass), Melbourne Road and Rippleside Park. Rippleside Park is a much sought-after location in Geelong; many of the properties located in the area represent the Victorian history that the area has experienced throughout its life. The area is known for its lucrative, and therefore expensive location. For local residents, the suburb is within 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) of the North Geelong Railway Station and bus routes connected to Geelong City.

Geelong Arena is a multi-use sports and entertainment venue in Geelong, Victoria. It served as the home venue for the Geelong Supercats, a men's basketball team who played in the National Basketball League (NBL) between 1982 and 1996. It currently still serves as the home venue for the Supercats, who now play in the NBL1 South.Since 1996, the venue has hosted a number of NBL and WNBL games. It also hosted basketball games during the 2006 Commonwealth Games.The arena has the majority of its 2,000 seating capacity on the broadcast side of the court with two smaller sections at each end plus two levels of corporate boxes on the opposite to the broadcast side. The venue has four courts.In 2023, Geelong United Basketball revealed plans to bid for management rights of Geelong Arena.

North Geelong railway station is located on the Warrnambool line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the northern Geelong suburb of North Geelong, and opened on 1 August 1883 as West Geelong. It was renamed North Geelong on 1 January 1886.The station is on the Geelong side of the junction of the Ballarat and Melbourne lines. The North Geelong rail yards are north of the station. After a rearrangement of the Ballarat line junction in 1907, the platform on the west side was removed, and all trains used the one platform. A further reorganisation in 1920 saw the second platform restored.In 1973, the former Victoria Street level crossing, which was at the down (southern) end of the station, was replaced by the Margaret Street overpass and a pedestrian underpass. In 1976, both platforms were extended by over 60 metres, and the platforms and platform facings were renewed in 1979. The main station building on Platform 1 was opened on 8 August 1990 and, in 2008, the smaller building on Platform 2 was replaced by a metal shelter.In January 2019, the North Geelong "C" signal box, one of the few remaining mechanical signal boxes in Victoria, was abolished, and a project was begun to automatically signal the lines it formerly controlled.

Pako Festa is an annual festival held in Pakington Street, Geelong West each year around late February. The festival is held to promote cultural diversity and show appreciation for the artwork and fashion designed by citizens of the Geelong area. The first festival was held in 1983, and currently attracts the participation of around 30 cultural community groups, up to 60 community groups and a total attendance in excess of 100,000 people. It is the largest multicultural festival in Victoria.

Pakington Street is a boutique shopping strip in Geelong, Victoria, Australia. Known as “Pako” to local residents, the strip stretches between the suburbs of Geelong West at its north end and Newtown at the south. The south end of Pakington Street is commonly referred to as the "Paris end", due to its high density of high-end designer boutiques and exclusive restaurants, while the north end, better suited for retail and hospitality, is commonly referred to as the "Melbourne end".While both ends have their followers, it is the Melbourne end that has been the most popular of recent times, in part, due to its position as the center of Geelong when it comes to cosmopolitan atmosphere and multiculturalism.Every February, the street hosts the Pakington Street Festa or Pako Festa; a parade dedicated to celebrating the multicultural heritage of the area.

Western Heights College is a secondary school in Hamlyn Heights, Geelong, Australia. Also known as Western Heights Community College, it is situated in Vines Road with its adjoining campus being the Vines Road Community Centre. The college is spread across three buildings, with Year 7 and 8 in the red building, Year 9 and 10 in the grey building and Year 11 and 12 in the yellow building. As of 2016, the school has 605 students, with only 204 being girls and 401 boys. The school currently has a lower than average Index of Community Socio-Educational Advantage (ICSEA) score of 950.

The Electoral district of Geelong North was an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It was largely replaced by the district of Lara in the redistribution before the 2002 election.

St Paul's Anglican Church is a heritage-listed Anglican church complex located on Latrobe Terrace, Geelong, Victoria, Australia. Constructed primarily between 1850 and 1863, the church is notable for its early use of face red brick, unusual timber internal columns, and prominent Gothic Revival tower.
