Thornton-le-Beans Chapel is in the village of Thornton-le-Beans, North Yorkshire, England. It is a redundant Anglican chapel of ease. The chapel is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building. Since 2010 it has been under the care of the Friends of Friendless Churches.

Otterington railway station was located in the village of South Otterington, North Yorkshire, on the East Coast Main Line. It opened in 1841 and closed in 1958. The station is now a private residence, though the platform can still be seen. The buildings date from the 1930s when the East Coast Main Line was widened. The station became a listed building in 2018.

Sowerby-under-Cotcliffe is a civil parish in the Hambleton District of North Yorkshire, England. The population at the 2011 Census was less than 100. Details are included in the civil parish of Winton, Stank and Hallikeld. It is 3 miles (4.8 km) east of Northallerton, 0.5 miles (0.8 km) south of Kirby Sigston, and 1.2 miles (2 km) west of the A19 road. The Cod Beck river flows to the east of the parish forming a border with KIrby Sigston and Landmoth-cum-Catto civil parishes. In 2011, North Yorkshire County Council estimated the population to be 40, which had dropped to 30 by a 2015 estimate. The area was recorded in the Domesday Book as belonging to King William and having 75 ploughlands with 100 acres (40 ha) of meadows. The name is a combination of the Old Norse Saurbi meaning swampy farmstead, and koteclyf, meaning Bank by the cottage. At the turn of the 19th century, a Roman Road was uncovered when building work was being undertaken to build a new road. The 72-mile (116 km) route went from Barmby to Stamford Bridge, Thirsk and then onto Durham.

Otterington Hall is a Grade II listed mansion in South Otterington, near Northallerton, North Yorkshire, England.Otterington Hall lies in South Otterington, three miles south of Northallerton, on the A167.One of the earlier occupants, from before 1831 until his death in 1837, was Captain John George Boss (1781–1837) R.N. He had a distinguished naval career, being involved in the capture of several French vessels and the protection of British trading interests in the Caribbean during the Napoleonic Wars. He was a Member of Parliament for the Northallerton constituency (1832–1835) and he gained the rank of captain in November 1833. He married twice: Charlotte Robinson (née Pennyman) in 1814, who died in 1832 aged 56, and Elizabeth Wylie in 1834.Otterington Hall was the birthplace of British anti-fascist, linguist, and photographer, Alec Wainman.It was home to the Furness family for many years, and they were responsible for planting much of its topiary gardens from the 1920s onwards, "one of the best topiary gardens in England and certainly the best in Yorkshire".It has been home to Andy Preston, the Mayor of Middlesbrough and a former hedge fund manager, and his wife since at least 2007. In 2015, Preston was criticised for using his parents' Middlesbrough address on his nomination papers, rather than that of his actual home, but he denied breaking election rules.The Hall was listed for sale with Savills in 2023, at an asking price of £4,000,000.

It is part of the civil parish of Thornton-le-Moor and Thornton-le-Street for District purposes. As the population remained less 100 at the 2011 Census details are included in the civil parish of Thornton-le-Moor. In 2015, North Yorkshire County Council estimated the population to have been 90.Thornton-le-Street is situated about 3 miles (4.8 km) north of Thirsk and about 5.3 miles (8.5 km) south-east of the county town of Northallerton. The whole village is within the site of the old medieval village and designated and Ancient Monument under the terms of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979. It is located between the west bank of the Cod Beck and the A168 road between Thirsk and Northallerton.

Hambleton was a local government district in North Yorkshire, England. The administrative centre was Northallerton, and the district included the outlying towns and villages of Bedale, Thirsk, Great Ayton, Stokesley, and Easingwold. The district was formed by the Local Government Act 1972 on 1 April 1974, as a merger of Northallerton Urban District, Bedale Rural District, Easingwold Rural District, Northallerton Rural District, and parts of Thirsk Rural District, Stokesley Rural District and Croft Rural District, all in the North Riding of Yorkshire. It was subsumed into the new unitary authority of North Yorkshire Council on 1 April 2023.
