The Belfry of Brussels (French: Beffroi de Bruxelles; Dutch: Belfort van Brussel) was a medieval bell tower in central Brussels, Belgium. Built long before the city's current Town Hall on the Grand-Place/Grote Markt (Brussels' main square), whose tower it should not be confused with, it formerly stood in front of St. Nicholas' Church until its collapse on 25 July 1714. It was never rebuilt.

Saint Nicholas Church (French: Église Saint-Nicolas; Dutch: Sint-Niklaaskerk) is a Catholic church in central Brussels, Belgium. Founded around 1125, it is one of the first four churches in Brussels and the best preserved in its successive developments. It is dedicated to Saint Nicholas. The church was designated a historic monument on 5 March 1936. Its western (main) façade dates from the 1950s.

Bruxella 1238 is an archaeological site located beneath the Brussels Stock Exchange in Belgium. The site presents the remains of a Recollect convent established in the early 13th century and offers visitors an insight into nearly a millennium of Brussels’ history. Excavations conducted between 1988 and 2022 uncovered building foundations, burial grounds, and various artefacts, which are now presented through an immersive scenography. The convent endured significant events, including the European religious wars and the 1695 bombardment of Brussels by the troops of Louis XIV. Declared national property at the end of the 18th century, the convent was eventually demolished to make way for the construction of the Stock Exchange building. Among the preserved remains is the supposed tomb of John I, Duke of Brabant, a figure later linked to the beer legend of Gambrinus.

The Brussels Stock Exchange (French: Bourse de Bruxelles, Dutch: Beurs van Brussel), abbreviated to BSE, was founded in Brussels, Belgium, by decree of Napoleon in 1801. In 2002, the BSE merged with the Amsterdam, Lisbon and Paris stock exchanges into Euronext N.V., renaming the BSE Euronext Brussels. The most well known stock market index on the BSE is the BEL20. The former Brussels Stock Exchange building (French: Palais de la Bourse, Dutch: Beurspaleis), usually shortened to Bourse or Beurs, is located on the Place de la Bourse/Beursplein along the Boulevard Anspach/Anspachlaan. This area is served by the premetro (underground tram) station Bourse/Beurse on lines 3 and 4.

The Bourse Palace (French: Palais de la Bourse; Dutch: Beurspaleis), often simply called the Bourse (French: la Bourse; Dutch: de Beurs), is a former stock exchange building in Brussels, Belgium. It was previously the seat of the Brussels Stock Exchange (BSE). Since 2023, its upper floors have housed the Belgian Beer World museum. Designed by the architect Léon-Pierre Suys, in an eclectic style mixing borrowings from neo-Renaissance and Second Empire architecture, the building was erected from 1868 to 1873 on the site of the former Butter Market, itself built over a former Franciscan convent whose remains have been unearthed. It is located on the Boulevard Anspach/Anspachlaan, and is the namesake of the Place de la Bourse/Beursplein, which is, after the Grand-Place/Grote Markt, the second most important square in Brussels. This area is served by the premetro (underground tram) station Bourse - Grand-Place/Beurs - Grote Markt on lines 4 and 10.

The Maison de l'Agneau Blanc (lit. 'House of the White Lamb') or simply l'Agneau Blanc is a baroque house, built in 1696, located at number 42 of the rue du Marché aux Herbes (lit. 'Herb Market Street') in Brussels, parallel to the Grand Place. The sculptures on the facade are the work of Peter Van Dievoet, commissioned by Jean De Broe.It has been a protected heritage site since 2011.

The Place de la Bourse (French) or Beursplein (Dutch), meaning "Stock Exchange Square", is a major square in central Brussels, Belgium. It was created following the covering of the river Senne (1867–1871). The former Brussels Stock Exchange building, of which it takes its name, is located on this square. It is served by the premetro (underground tram) station Bourse/Beurse on lines 3 and 4.

The Town Hall (French: Hôtel de Ville, Dutch: Stadhuis ) of the City of Brussels is a landmark building in Brussels, Belgium. It is located on the famous Grand Place (Brussels' main square), opposite the King's House or Bread House building (French: Maison du Roi, Dutch: Broodhuis) housing the Brussels City Museum. Erected between 1401 and 1455, the Town Hall is the only remaining medieval building of the Grand Place and is considered a masterpiece of civil Gothic architecture and more particularly of Brabantine Gothic. Its three classicist rear wings date from the 18th century. It is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as part of the square.This site is served by the premetro (underground tram) station Bourse/Beurs (on lines 3 and 4), as well as the bus stop Grand Place/Grote Markt (on line 95).

The bombardment of Brussels by troops of Louis XIV of France on August 13, 14 and 15, 1695, and the resulting fire were together the most destructive event in the entire history of Brussels. Brussels was mostly untouched by most other conflicts. It did not suffer significant damage during World War I, and bombing during World War II was not nearly as extensive as that of 1695. The Grand Place was destroyed, along with a third of the buildings in the city. The reconstruction of the city centre, effected during subsequent years, profoundly changed the appearance of the city and left numerous traces still visible today. The bombardment was part of the Nine Years' War. The French forces hoped that by bombarding, or threatening to bombard Brussels, they would be able to divert Allied troops from the Siege of Namur. The strategy was unsuccessful, and no military gain came of the bombardment, although Louis XIV's reputation suffered for such a barbarous act.

The Brussels City Museum (French: Musée de la ville de Bruxelles, Dutch: Museum van de Stad Brussel) is a museum on the Grand Place of Brussels, Belgium. It is dedicated to the history and folklore of the City of Brussels from its foundation to modern times, which it presents through paintings, sculptures, tapestries, engravings, photos and models, including a notable scale-representation of the town during the Middle Ages.Conceived in 1860 and inaugurated in 1887, the museum is situated opposite Brussels' Town Hall, in the Maison du Roi ("King's House") or Broodhuis ("Bread House" or "Bread Hall"). This building, in the Gothic Revival style, is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as part of the square.This site is served by the premetro (underground tram) station Bourse/Beurs (on lines 3 and 4), as well as the bus stop Grand Place/Grote Markt (on line 95).

The Brussels metropolitan area (French: Région métropolitaine de Bruxelles; Dutch: Stedelijk gebied van Brussel) is the metropolitan area of Brussels, Belgium. Covering an area of 3,377 km2 (1,304 sq mi), it extends beyond the administrative boundaries of the Brussels-Capital Region to include surrounding municipalities in the Flemish and Walloon regions. It comprises over 2.5 million people, which makes it the largest in Belgium. The largest cities or towns within the metropolitan area are Brussels, Vilvoorde, Dilbeek, Halle, Braine-l'Alleud and Grimbergen. It is also part of a large diamond-shaped conurbation, extending towards the cities of Ghent, Antwerp and Leuven, as well as the province of Walloon Brabant, in total home to over 5 million people.

The Flower Carpet (French: Tapis de Fleurs, Dutch: Bloementapijt) is a biennial event in Brussels in which volunteers from around Belgium convene at the Grand Place, the historic centre of the city, to weave a carpet-like tapestry out of colourful begonias. The event takes place every other August, coordinating with Assumption Day. Nearly a million flowers are required to create the ephemeral 1,800 m2 (19,000 sq ft) carpet.
