Gardens of Maecenas

The Porta Querquetulana or Querquetularia was a gateway in the Servian Wall, named after the sacred grove of the Querquetulanae adjacent to and just within it. The grove appears not to have still existed in the latter 1st century BC.The location of the gate is problematic. Lawrence Richardson located it at the edge of Regio V Esquiliae, with the Clivus Scauri passing through it. Platner located the gate and the wood on or near the Caelian Hill, but between the Porta Capena and the Porta Caelimontana. The Caelian Hill was supposed to have been named Querquetulanus before it was settled by Caelius Vibenna and named for him, and the location of the gate on the Caelian is based in part on the earlier name.In the early 21st century, photogrammetric data and 3D visualization have suggested that the grove of the Querquetulanae may have been incorporated into the Gardens of Maecenas. A nymphaeum from the time of Hadrian would have replaced the natural spring within it. In this view, the grove was located in Regio III, along the Via Labicana. A location on the Esquiline Hill is also possible. Pliny places the Porta Querquetulana between Jupiter Fagutalis and the Viminal Hill, and thus within the Esquiline.

Santi Quattro Coronati is an ancient basilica in Rome, Italy. The church dates back to the fourth or fifth century, and is devoted to four anonymous saints and martyrs. The complex of the basilica with its two courtyards, the fortified Cardinal Palace with the Saint Silvester Chapel, and the monastery with its cosmatesque cloister is built in a silent and green part of Rome, between the Colosseum and San Giovanni in Laterano, in an out-of-time setting.

The Basilica of Saint Clement (Italian: Basilica di San Clemente al Laterano) is a Latin Catholic minor basilica dedicated to Pope Clement I located in Rome, Italy. Archaeologically speaking, the structure is a three-tiered complex of buildings: (1) the present basilica built just before the year 1100 during the height of the Middle Ages; (2) beneath the present basilica is a 4th-century basilica that had been converted out of the home of a Roman nobleman, part of which had in the 1st century briefly served as an early church, and the basement of which had in the 2nd century briefly served as a mithraeum; (3) the home of the Roman nobleman had been built on the foundations of republican era villa and warehouse that had been destroyed in the Great Fire of AD 64.

The temple of Minerva Medica (akin to the temple of Apollo Medicus) was a temple in ancient Rome, built on the Esquiline Hill in the Republican era, though no remains of it have been found. Since the 17th century, it has been wrongly identified with the ruins of a nymphaeum on a nearby site, on account of the erroneous impression that the Athena Giustiniani had been found in its ruins.

Via Merulana is a street in the Rione Monti of Rome, Italy. It is south of the main train station (Stazioni Termini) of Rome, near the Oppian Hill. The street connects two major papal basilicas: the Santa Maria Maggiore to the St John Lateran. The name derives from family that owned the land during the medieval period. The present street was initiated by Pope Gregory XIII in the late 16th century and finished not long after by Pope Sixtus V. On the route described above are the facades of the church of Sant'Antonio da Padova and the adjacent Franciscan convent. Previously the site was occupied by the Villa Giustiniani Massimo. At the intersection with the Roman Via Labicana is the facade of the ancient church of Santi Marcellino e Pietro al Laterano. On the intersection with via di San Vito is the church of Sant'Alfonso di Liguori all'Esquilino of the Order of the Redemptorist Priests. Instead, on the intersection with via Mecenate is the Auditorium of Maecenas, a nymphaeum part of the Gardens of Maecenas. Other institutions on the route include the Museo Nazionale d'Arte Orientale and the Pontifical University Antonianum. The ancient church of San Matteo in Via Merulana was destroyed in 1810. The street is included in the crime novel That Awful Mess on Via Merulana by the Italian writer Carlo Emilio Gadda.

Santi Marcellino e Pietro al Laterano is a Roman catholic parish and titular church in Rome on the Via Merulana. It is dedicated to Saints Marcellinus and Peter, 4th century Roman martyrs, whose relics were brought here in 1256.

The Pontifical Irish College is a Roman Catholic seminary for the training and education of priests, in Rome. The College is located at #1, Via dei Santi Quattro, and serves as a residence for clerical students from all over the world. Designated a Pontifical college in 1948, it is the last Irish college in continental Europe.

The Teatro Brancaccio (i.e. "Brancaccio Theater"), also known as Politeama Brancaccio, is a 1,300-seat theatre and cinema located in Esquilino, Rome, Italy. It was inaugurated in 1916 with the name Teatro Morgana and since 1937 it was used also as a cinema. After some years of decline the theater, owned by the City of Rome, was restored and reopened in 1978.

The Gay Street (Italian: Gay Street di Roma) is an area in Rome, Italy designated as a gay- and lesbian-friendly neighborhood. A 300-metre shopping and bar area in the center of the city on Via San Giovanni in Laterano, a street leading to the east flank of the Colosseum, it was formally designated in 2007. The opening ceremonies, led by the Italian LGBT organization Arcigay, were attended by celebrities and national and municipal politicians.

Santi Andrea e Bartolomeo is a Catholic church in Rome (Italy), in the Rione Monti, on Via Santo Stefano Rotondo.

The Basilica of Saint Anthony of Padua al Laterano (Italian: Sant'Antonio da Padova all'Esquilino, Latin: S. Antonii Patavini de Urbe) is a Roman Catholic titular church in Rome on Via Merulana, one block from the Obelisk of St. John Lateran. It was built for the Order of Friars Minor, who needed a new home after they were moved from Santa Maria in Ara Coeli to allow the construction of the Victor Emmanuel II Monument. The church was consecrated on 4 December 1887 and was elevated to minor basilica status in 1931.On 12 March 1960 Pope John XXIII made it a titular church as a seat for cardinals. The most recent cardinal priest of the Titulus Sancti Antonii Patavini de Urbe was Cláudio Hummes.

The Baths of Trajan (Italian: Terme di Traiano) were a massive thermae, a bathing and leisure complex, built in ancient Rome starting from 104 AD and dedicated during the kalendae of July in 109. Commissioned by Emperor Trajan, the complex of baths occupied space on the southern side of the Oppian Hill on the outskirts of what was then the main developed area of the city, although still inside the boundary of the Servian Wall. The architect of the complex is said to be Apollodorus of Damascus. The baths were being utilized mainly as a recreational and social center by Roman citizens, both men and women, as late as the early 5th century. The complex seems to have been deserted soon afterwards as a cemetery dated to the 5th century (which remained in use until the 7th century) has been found in front of the northeastern exedra. The baths were thus no longer in use at the time of the siege of Rome by the Ostrogoths in 537; with the destruction of the Roman aqueducts, all thermae were abandoned, as was the whole of the now-waterless Mons Oppius. Early Christian writers misnamed the remains the "Baths of Domitian".
