The Harbour explosion occurred in Bergen, Norway on 20 April 1944.

Königsberg was a German light cruiser that was operated between 1929 and April 1940, including service in World War II. She was the lead vessel of her class and was operated by two German navies, the Reichsmarine and the Kriegsmarine. She had two sister ships, Karlsruhe and Köln. Königsberg was built by the Kriegsmarinewerft in Wilhelmshaven; she was laid down in April 1926, launched in March 1927, and commissioned into the Reichsmarine in April 1929. She was armed with a main battery of nine 15 cm SK C/25 guns in three triple turrets and had a top speed of 32 knots (59 km/h; 37 mph). Königsberg served as a training ship for naval cadets throughout the 1930s, and joined the non-intervention patrols during the Spanish Civil War in the late 1930s. After the outbreak of World War II in September 1939, she laid defensive minefields in the North Sea and then participated in Operation Weserübung, the invasion of Norway in April 1940. While attacking Bergen, she was badly damaged by Norwegian coastal artillery, and sunk by Fleet Air Arm Blackburn Skua fighter-bombers the following day in the harbor. The wreck was eventually raised in 1942 and broken up for scrap the following year.

German submarine U-92 was a Type VIIC U-boat of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine during World War II. She was laid down at the Flender Werke in Lübeck as yard number 296, launched on 10 January 1942 and commissioned on 3 March 1942. On 4 October 1944, U-92 was damaged by aerial bombing off Bergen at 60°24′N 5°19′E. The boat was put out of service on 12 October 1944, and eventually broken up in 1944 – 45.

Christ Church on Holmen (Kristkirken på Holmen i Bergen) was the main medieval era cathedral of Bergen, Norway. Its site was near Haakon's hall (Håkonshallen) and Bergenhus Fortress (Bergenhus festning).

Bergenhus fortress (Norwegian: Bergenhus festning) is a fortress located in Bergen, Norway. Located at the entrance of Bergen harbour, the castle is one of the oldest and best preserved stone fortifications in Norway.

The Battle of Vågen was a naval battle between a Dutch merchant and treasure fleet; and an English flotilla of warships in August 1665 as part of the Second Anglo-Dutch War. The battle took place in Vågen (meaning "the bay, voe" in Norwegian), the main port area of neutral Bergen, Norway. Due to a delay in orders, the Norwegian commanders took the side of the Dutch, contrary to the secret intentions of the King of Norway and Denmark. The battle ended with the retreat of the English fleet, which was much damaged but had lost no ships. The treasure fleet was relieved by the Dutch home fleet 17 days later.

Vågen is a bay in the centre of the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. It is the central harbour of the city centre, and is the center of the historical core of the city. The city of Bergen originated on the east shore of the bay, and from there it expanded to the southern and western shores over a few centuries. Today, Bergen is the second largest city in the nation.The 1,200-metre (3,900 ft) long bay branches off the main Byfjorden. The Nordnes peninsula lies on the south side of the bay, and the Bergenhus Fortress lies on the northern shore. The Bryggen UNESCO World Heritage Site also lies along the northern shore of the bay. Bryggen includes many old buildings, some of which date back to the 11th century.

Operation Guidance was an Australian-British raid during World War II in 1944. The British X-class submarine X24, entered Bergen harbour in German-occupied Norway on a mission to sink a large floating dock. After being detected and shaking off their pursuer, X24 made it to the target area, but faulty intelligence and incorrect charts led them to lay their charges not on the floating dock, but on a large German ship nearby, which was sunk in the explosion.

Koengen is an outdoor concert venue in the city centre of Bergen, Norway. The concert venue has a capacity of approximately 23,500 people. Formerly an army depot, it is located next to the medieval Bergenhus Fortress. Recent acts to perform here include Elton John, Muse, Anastacia, David Bowie, Iron Maiden, Kanye West, The Eagles, Coldplay, Bruce Springsteen, Tinie Tempah, Santigold, Avenged Sevenfold, Bob Dylan, Suzanne Vega, Hatebreed, Rolling Stones, Rammstein, Alice In Chains, Phil Collins, Metallica, Slayer, Foo Fighters, Eric Clapton, Kiss, R.E.M., Neil Young, Sting and Bon Jovi, Paul McCartney, Rihanna and Bruno Mars.

Lydgalleriet is a non-commercial gallery for sound based art practices, situated in the centre of Bergen. The gallery explores today’s plethora of experimental sound based art and auditive cultures through exhibitions, concerts, performance and interventions in public space. Lydgalleriet exhibits national and international artists and initiates local art production. The range of projects is wide and covers among other forms, audio art, installations, speaker concerts and performances and instrument demonstrations. Exhibited artists include, among others Christian Marclay, Peter Vogel, Zimoun, Alvin Lucier, Pierre Henry, Robert Henke and Chris Watson. Since November 2005 Lydgalleriet has made projects in different locations in Bergen. During the first years the main base was Østre Skostredet 3, moving to USF Verftet for the renovation in 2011-2012 and then back to the renovated spaces in Østre Skostredet 3 in October 2012. Lydgalleriet moved to Strandgaten 195 in August 2020. Lydgalleriet is funded by the Arts Council Norway and the city of Bergen with annual grants and has showed about 8 exhibitions each year since 2007. Lydgalleriet is the only permanent venue in Scandinavia that focuses on sound art, which is a growing field in the visual arts. Lydgalleriet is a partner in the Norwegian production network for electronic art, PNEK, and the European sound art network Resonance.

Strandgaten is a street in the city centre of Bergen, Norway, west of the bay of Vågen. It starts at Torgallmenningen and follows the eastern shore of the Nordnes peninsula to Tidemands gate, where it becomes Nordnesgaten. The easternmost quarter of Strandgaten is a regular two-way street, while it is an eastbound one-way street between Tollbodallmenningen and Holbergsallmenningen, and between Østre Murallmenningen and Torgallmenningen. Between Holbergsallmenningen and Østre Murallmenningen the street is pedestrianised. In total, Strandgaten is approximately 1.2 km long.
