Kotanui Island / Frenchmans Cap

Matakatia is a suburb situated on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, towards the northern end of Auckland, New Zealand. It is about 43 kilometres (by road) north of the city centre. Kotanui Island, also called Frenchmans Cap, is a sharp triangular rock rising from the water about 1,000 metres offshore.

The Whangaparāoa Peninsula is a suburban area about 30–50 km north of Auckland, New Zealand. It had 33,390 residents in 2018. It stretches from Red Beach, where it connects to Kingsway, Orewa and Silverdale, and extends to Army Bay in the Hauraki Gulf. It is part of the Hibiscus Coast. The area is populated by residents who work on the peninsula, or commute from the area to other parts of the Hibiscus Coast, the North Shore, Rodney district, Auckland CBD and beyond for work. They travel by vehicle, or via the Gulf Harbour ferry at Gulf Harbour Marina, or the Hibiscus Coast Bus Station at Silverdale. There is one main road (Whangaparāoa Road) along its entire length, which is accessible from State Highway 1 via Hibiscus Coast Highway at Silverdale, or from Hibiscus Coast Highway at Orewa via Red Beach. It is popular as a tourist destination for catching a ferry to Tiritiri Matangi Island, and for visiting Shakespear Regional Park. It has one open (Whangaparāoa Golf Club) and one closed (as of 20 July 2023) (closed ) golf club (Gulf Harbour Country Club), beaches, sporting and recreation facilities, a library, shops, businesses and public and private primary and secondary schools. The median age of the population is in the 30s-40s.

Manly is a suburb on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, towards the northern end of Auckland, New Zealand. Manly Village is an established shopping centre, with the residential areas of Big Manly Beach to the north and Little Manly Beach to the south. The area was once a seaside holiday location, but has become residential suburbs within commuting distance of central Auckland city.

Gulf Harbour is a development some 4 km from the end of the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, towards the northern end of Auckland, New Zealand. It has one of the country's largest marinas, and one of the country's top golf courses, and is regarded as a retreat for Auckland's well-off. The site is also known as Hobbs Bay and was sold in the early seventies by landowners, the Hobbs family, who still retain some of the coastal area including the Hobbs Bay beach. A ferry service operates between Gulf Harbour and downtown Auckland.

Wentworth College is a private secondary college in Gulf Harbour, in the Auckland region of New Zealand. Wentworth Primary is a private primary school which shares the site.

Arkles Bay is one of the northernmost suburbs of the contiguous Auckland metropolitan area located in New Zealand. It is located on the southern side of the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, in the Hibiscus Coast, located 25 kilometres (16 mi) north of the Auckland CBD. It is part of the Albany Ward area for local government purposes. Arkles Bay is known for its sheltered beaches, suitable for swimming and paddle boarding.

Army Bay is a northern coastal suburb of Auckland, New Zealand. It is on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula about 47 kilometres (by road) north of the city centre. It is named for the New Zealand Defence Force area north of Shakespear Regional Park. The military area was used to quarantine New Zealanders and Pacific Islanders evacuated from Wuhan during the COVID-19 pandemic in February 2020.

Whangaparāoa College is a co-educational state secondary school on the Hibiscus Coast of New Zealand. It was built on the same site as, and absorbed, Hibiscus Coast Intermediate School, with the only other state secondary school on the Hibiscus Coast being Orewa College. The decile 9 school serves Years 7 to 13. Opened officially in 2005, the founding principal was Brian O'Connell, who served until 2012. James Thomas took over the principal role in 2012. The current principal is Steve McCracken.It has a roll of 1732 learners (as at April 2023), including international students. The school is in a high socio-economic area (high decile number), and has tight zoning rules where students must live to attend the school. This method prevents overcrowding. Being a new school, the facilities and technology used are leaders in the New Zealand education system, positioned on an environmentally aware site. 2006 saw the rise of two new high decile schools in Metropolitan Auckland, Whangaparāoa College and Botany Downs Secondary School.

Stanmore Bay is a suburb and beach located on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, in the Auckland Region of New Zealand. The beach is on the northern side of the peninsula.

Shakespear Regional Park is a nature park in the Auckland Region of New Zealand. It is located at the tip of the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, and is named after the Shakespear family which bought the land in the 1880s from local Maori.The park includes the Tamaki Leadership Centre, a Royal New Zealand Navy base.

Karepiro Bay is a bay of the Hauraki Gulf / Tīkapa Moana in the Auckland Region, New Zealand. It found between the Whangaparāoa Peninsula and North Shore, and is the mouth of the Weiti River and Ōkura River.

The Weiti River is an estuarine river to the north of Auckland in the North Island of New Zealand. It rises as the Weiti Stream in the low hills approximately 7 kilometres (4 mi) west of Silverdale and emerges into the Hauraki Gulf immediately south of the Whangaparaoa Peninsula. The upper stretches of the river are heavily grown with mangroves but with care, small craft can navigate it as far as Silverdale at high tide. Stillwater is the only other settlement along the river's banks. Wentworth College, based in nearby Gulf Harbour, uses the Weiti River for its rowing training.Up until the 1950s this river and estuary was known by locals as the Wade river.
