Taylor Square Substation No.6 and Underground Conveniences is a heritage-listed electrical substation and underground public toilets at the intersection of Taylor Square, Oxford, Forbes and Bourke Streets, in the inner city Sydney suburb of Darlinghurst in the City of Sydney local government area of New South Wales, Australia. Both the substation and the underground conveniences were designed by Robert Hargreave Brodrick and built from 1904 to 1907, with Owen Ridge & Sons building the substation and G. D. Getherson the underground public conveniences. The property is owned by City of Sydney. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 July 2004.

The Darlinghurst Courthouse is a heritage-listed courthouse building located adjacent to Taylor Square on Oxford Street in the inner city Sydney suburb of Darlinghurst in the City of Sydney local government area of New South Wales, Australia. Constructed in the Old Colonial Grecian style based on original designs by Colonial Architect, Mortimer Lewis, the building structure was completed in 1880 under the supervision of Barnet's successor, James Barnet. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.The courthouse is predominately used for sittings of the Supreme Court of New South Wales.

The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras or Sydney Mardi Gras is an event in Sydney, New South Wales attended by hundreds of thousands of people from around Australia and overseas. One of the largest such festivals in the world, Mardi Gras is the largest Pride event in Oceania. It includes a variety of events such as the Sydney Mardi Gras Parade and Party, Bondi Beach Drag Races, Harbour Party, the academic discussion panel Queer Thinking, Mardi Gras Film Festival, as well as Fair Day, which attracts 70,000 people to Victoria Park, Sydney. The Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras is one of Australia's biggest tourist drawcards, with the parade and dance party attracting many international and domestic tourists. It is New South Wales' second-largest annual event in terms of economic impact, generating an annual income of about A$30 million for the state. The event grew from gay rights parades held annually since 1978, when numerous participants had been arrested by New South Wales Police Force. The Mardi Gras Parade maintains a political flavour, with many marching groups and floats promoting LGBTQIA+ rights issues or themes. Reflecting changes since the first Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras, participants in the Mardi Gras Parade now include groups of uniformed Australian Defence Force personnel, police officers from New South Wales Police Force, as well as interstate and federal police officers, firefighters and other emergency services personnel from the Australian LGBTQIA+ communities. Marriage equality was a dominant theme in the 2011 Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade with at least 15 floats lobbying for same-sex marriage.In 2019 Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras submitted a bid to host WorldPride 2023 competing against Montreal, Canada and Houston, Texas. InterPride chose Sydney, Australia to host WorldPride 2023 at their Athens October 2019 Annual General Meeting of three hundred delegate organizations - the first time WorldPride will be held in the Southern Hemisphere or Asia Pacific region.

Taylor Square is a public square in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Taylor Square is located beside a major road junction, where Oxford Street meets Flinders Street. Taylor Square is also on the border of the suburbs of Darlinghurst and Surry Hills.

The National Art School (NAS) is a tertiary level art school, located in Darlinghurst, an inner-city suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The school is an independent accredited higher education provider offering specialised study in studio arts practice across various disciplines.With its origins in the formation of Sydney Mechanics’ School of Arts in 1843, NAS has been in operation on the historic Darlinghurst Gaol site in East Sydney in various forms since 1922 and was formerly part of East Sydney Technical College, known as East Sydney Tech. Today NAS is a centre for education, research, scholarship and professional practice in the visual arts and related fields. In 2022 the school marks 100 years occupying the sandstone buildings of the former Darlinghurst Gaol, combining a long artistic tradition with its modern role educating Australia's future contemporary artists.

The Darlinghurst Gaol is a former Australian prison located in Darlinghurst, New South Wales. The site is bordered by Darlinghurst Road, Burton and Forbes streets, with entrances on Forbes and Burton Streets. The heritage-listed building, predominantly designed by New South Wales Colonial Architect Mortimer Lewis, was closed in 1914 and has subsequently been repurposed to house the National Art School.

Exiles Bookshop was a Sydney bookshop which hosted many poetry readings, and was something of a centre for the local poetry scene in the early 1980s. It was established, at 207 Oxford Street, Taylor Square, by Susumu Hirayanagi and Nicholas Pounder in February 1979, and it closed in late 1982. Poetry readings were held there frequently, where local poets such as John Tranter, John Forbes, Rae Desmond Jones, Gig Ryan, Dorothy Porter, Kerry Leves, Laurie Duggan, Martin Johnston, Grant Caldwell, Les Wicks, Alan Jefferies and S. K. Kelen read their work. Luke Davies, winner of the 2012 Prime Minister's Literary Award for Poetry, first read in public there as a 19-year-old in 1981. Poets from other countries, including Hans Magnus Enzensberger, also visited the bookshop. Gary Snyder read there on 17 September 1981.

Darlinghurst Theatre is an independent theatre company based at the Eternity Playhouse in Darlinghurst, New South Wales.Glenn Terry established the company in 1993 initially as an inner-city drama school. Darlinghurst Theatre productions were originally based at the Wayside Theatre in Kings Cross. A devastating hail storm destroyed its roof and the company was sent in search of new home. South Sydney Council assisted by providing a venue with affordable rent. With financial support from the New South Wales Ministry of the Arts, The Grosvenor Club and numerous individuals, A$500,000 worth of internal renovations was completed and a new Sydney theatre was born in Potts Point. At the time of the renovations, Sydney's Her Majesty's Theatre was closed and some of that theatre's equipment found a new home at Darlinghurst Theatre, including seats, dressing room mirrors, lighting and bar equipment.

The Eternity Playhouse is a 200-seat theatre in Darlinghurst, Sydney. The playhouse, which opened in 2013, was created from the heritage-listed Burton Street Tabernacle. Darlinghurst Theatre Company is the resident company. The name 'Eternity' references the work of Arthur Stace inscribing that word on Sydney streets.

St Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, officially the St Sophia and Her Three Daughters Greek Orthodox Church, is a heritage-listed Greek Orthodox church at 411a Bourke Street in the inner city Sydney suburb of Surry Hills in the City of Sydney local government area of New South Wales, Australia. Formerly a Congregational church, the building is also known as the former Bourke Street Congregational Church and School. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.

GA Zink and Sons Building is a heritage-listed retail building at 56 Oxford Street in the inner city Sydney suburb of Darlinghurst in the City of Sydney local government area of New South Wales, Australia. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.

The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Holocaust Memorial Project was founded by a group of community activists. Over the years they raised funds and decided, with South Sydney City Council, on the site at Green Park in Darlinghurst, in Sydney, Australia. Darlinghurst is considered the heart of Sydney's gay and lesbian population. Green Park is adjacent to the Sydney Jewish Museum, which ensures that the memorial retains its historic meaning. The memorial was built to honor all gay, lesbian and bi men, women and gender-diverse people who have been murdered, tortured and persecuted because of their sexuality. It recreates symbols that were predominantly used throughout the Holocaust; a pink triangle to identify homosexual men, and a black triangle to identify lesbian women.The memorial is a "pink triangular prism, made of enameled steel, and a grid of black steel columns in the form of a triangle". The two elements form a fractured Star of David, and was designed by Russell Rodrigo and Jennifer Gamble.The inscription reads "We remember you who have suffered or died at the hands of others, women who have loved women; men who have loved men; and all those who have refused the roles others have expected us to play. Nothing shall purge your death from our memories." It was written by queer Jewish writer Rosanne Bersten and deliberately worded in order to include gay men, lesbians, bisexual people, people who didn't use a label to describe their sexuality and trans and gender-diverse people who were persecuted for their gender expression.It was constructed over a period of months in 2000 and its dedication ceremony was on Tuesday, 27 February 2001, when the memorial was handed over to the custodianship of the Sydney Pride Centre. The dedicational speech was by Australian lawyer Marcus Einfeld.
