Karawatha, Queensland

Karawatha Forest or Karawatha nature reserve is approximately 900 hectares of bushland in the Brisbane suburbs of Karawatha and Stretton, Australia. It is one of the largest areas of remnant bushland within Brisbane. The predominant vegetation types in the forest are dry eucalypt forest and woodland with native heath understories. The Karawatha Forest Protection Society was formed to ensure that the bushland was protected from development and is owned and managed by the Brisbane City Council (BCC). Funds raised from the BCC's Bushland Preservation Levy have enabled the acquisition of land for preservation of Karawatha Forest.The subtropical bushland reserve contains an important wetland area along Scrubby Creek and an unnamed creek, both of which flow into Slacks Creek, tributary of the Logan River. Significant landmarks within the forest include Poet's Rock, the Old Quarry, Curtisii (formerly Paratz) Lookout, "the Rocks," Frog Hollow and the Illaweena Lagoon system. Along the western edge of the forest is the Gateway Motorway. The reserve was first declared in 1906.

Stretton is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland.The district is based in the southern suburbs of Brisbane. It is named for the suburb of Stretton and also includes the suburbs of Calamvale, Eight Mile Plains, Kuraby, Sunnybank Hills and Underwood. It was first contested at the 2001 state election.

Woodridge is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland.The district is based in the southern suburbs of Brisbane. It is named for the suburb of Woodridge and also takes in the suburbs of Crestmead, Kingston, Logan Central, Marsden and Slacks Creek. The electorate was first created for the 1977 election. Woodridge has been held by the Labor Party for all but a few months of its existence, when Mike Kaiser briefly served as an independent after being forced to resign from the party for branch-stacking a decade earlier. Since the 1980s, it has usually been one of Labor's safest seats. The only time Labor came close to losing the seat at an election came during Labor's near-wipeout in 2012, in which incumbent Desley Scott saw her majority slashed from a comfortably safe 25.4 percent to a marginal 5.8 percent. Scott retired ahead of the 2015 election. Her replacement, former cabinet minister Cameron Dick, reverted the seat to its usual status as a comfortably safe Labor seat, ballooning the Labor majority to 25.9 percent—the safest seat in the entire legislature.

Stretton State College is an independent coeducational public school based in Stretton in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The college has a total enrolment of approximately 3070 students across the primary (Gowan) and secondary (Illaweena) campuses, located at 226 Illaweena Street, which is on the land on the adjacent side of Gowan Road from the Primary Campus.
