High Street is one of the main thoroughfares and shopping areas in the city centre of Sheffield in South Yorkshire, England, located at the approximate grid reference of SK356874. High Street starts at the Commercial Street, Fitzalan Square and Haymarket junction and runs for approximately 400 metres west to conclude near the Sheffield Cathedral where it forms a Y-junction with Fargate and Church Street. High Street has the traditional wide variety of shops, financial institutions and eating places which are associated with any British town centre.

The Crazy Daisy Nightclub was a discothèque and dance club in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England in the mid-1970s to late 1980s, located originally on the corner of York Street and High Street, Sheffield. It was known as The Beer Keller in the early to mid-1970s. It was renamed the Crazy Daizy in 1973 and run by Mecca. Lunch-time discos and Bryan Ferry nights were popular in the mid-1970s. In 1978 it was taken over by the Tetley company. Situated in the basement of an art deco building, it featured numerous supporting pillars and a steep, sweeping staircase down from the entrance.The Crazy Daiz(s)y club was in business from 1973 to the late 1980s. At the time it became synonymous with the avant-garde early 1980s music scene. During its tenure it was a central social focal point in Sheffield city centre and claims a key role in 1980s Sheffield culture and British pop music history.It later became the Geisha Bar (in the 1980s), then Legends Nightclub, and subsequently closed in the mid-1990s when the Sheffield social scene shifted to the redeveloped West Street area. The building is now used as a bank and shops, next to a Sheffield Supertram stop.

The Sheffield Blitz is the name given to the worst nights of German Luftwaffe bombing in Sheffield, England, during the Second World War. It took place over the nights of 12 December and 15 December 1940. In 1940, Sheffield was a city of about 560,000 people and contained many heavy industries, primarily centred on steel and armaments. Hadfields steelworks was also the only place in the UK at that time where 18-inch armour-piercing shells were made. Most of the factories were located in the East End of the city beside the River Don. Documents captured at the end of the war showed that the targets for the raids included the Atlas Steelworks, Brown Bayley Steelworks, Meadowhall Iron Works, River Don Works, Darnall Wagon Works, Tinsley Park Collieries, East Hecla Works and Orgreave Coke Ovens.The full moon was on 14 December 1940 and both blitz nights were cold and clear. The German code name for the operation was Schmelztiegel ("Crucible").

The Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation (S&SY) is a system of navigable inland waterways (canals and canalised rivers) in South Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, England. Chiefly based on the River Don, it runs for a length of 43 miles (69 km) and has 27 locks. It connects Sheffield, Rotherham, and Doncaster with the River Trent at Keadby and (via the New Junction Canal) the Aire and Calder Navigation. The system consisted of five parts, four of which are still open to navigation today:- The River Don Navigation The Sheffield Canal (effectively abandoned in the early 1970s but revitalised since the 1990s) The Stainforth and Keadby Canal The New Junction Canal The Dearne and Dove Canal (closed 1961)

The City of Sheffield is a city and metropolitan borough in South Yorkshire, England. The metropolitan borough includes the administrative centre of Sheffield, the town of Stocksbridge and larger village of Chapeltown and part of the Peak District. It has a population of 584,853 (mid-2019 est), making it technically the third largest city in England by population behind Birmingham and Leeds, since London is not considered a single entity. It is governed by Sheffield City Council. The current city boundaries were set on 1 April 1974 by the provisions of the Local Government Act 1972, as part a reform of local government in England. The city is a merger of two former local government districts; the unitary City and County Borough of Sheffield combined with the urban district of Stocksbridge and parts of the rural district of Wortley from the West Riding of Yorkshire.For its first 12 years the city had a two-tier system of local government; Sheffield City Council shared power with South Yorkshire County Council. Since the Local Government Act 1985 Sheffield City Council has effectively been a unitary authority, serving as the sole executive, deliberative and legislative body responsible for local policy, setting council tax, and allocating budget in the city, and is a member of the Sheffield City Region Partnership. The City of Sheffield is divided into three civil parishes and a single unparished area.

The Sheffield & Tinsley Canal is a canal in the City of Sheffield, England. It runs 3.9 miles (6.3 km) from Tinsley, where it leaves the River Don, to the Sheffield Canal Basin (now Victoria Quays) in the city centre, passing through 11 locks. The maximum craft length that can navigate this lock system is 61 feet 6 inches (18.75 m) with a beam of 15 feet 6 inches (4.72 m).

Castle Square is the plaza at the intersection of High Street, Angel Street, and Arundel Gate in the City of Sheffield, England. This name was given to the square in the 1960s to reflect the proximity of the square to the site of Sheffield Castle, which was formerly located a short distance to the north-east.

Victoria Hall is a Methodist place of worship situated on Norfolk Street in Sheffield city centre. It is the most important Methodist building in Sheffield and it is a Grade II listed building. It is a large many roomed building which stands between the side streets of Chapel Walk and George Street. Although the main entrance to the church is on Norfolk Street, there is a separate administration entrance on Chapel Walk.

Old Bank House is the oldest surviving brick-built house in Sheffield City Centre in South Yorkshire, England. It lies on Hartshead, north of the High Street. Although the Manor Lodge had been partly constructed from brick, the first brick building in Sheffield city centre was not completed until 1696, and was initially much ridiculed. However, by the 1720s, several houses had been rebuilt in brick, and Burrowlee House in Hillsborough had been completed, so the style was no longer a novelty. The building was constructed in 1728 by the Quaker merchant Nicholas Broadbent. From 1771 until 1782, his grandson Thomas Broadbent ran a bank from the building, having moved to Page Hall. The three-storey building is divided into five bays, with the central bay brought slightly forward. The central bay and corners of the building are marked with giant pilasters, and a plain pediment tops the facade. St Peter's Close runs through the ground floor of the leftmost bay. The interior of the building, restored in the 1970s and further improved in 2006 contains some original panelling and plasterwork and is partially Grade I listed. The building is Grade II* listed and is now used as offices by Bank House Chambers, the longest established set of barristers chambers on the North Eastern Circuit, who began operating in 1862.

Coles Corner is the name given to the corner of Fargate and Church Street in Sheffield, England in sight of the cathedral. It was the site of the old Cole Brothers department store until it moved to Barker's Pool in 1963. The modern building was built on the site of Coles Corner and has been occupied by Midland Bank and various retailers over the years, including HSBC, Starbucks Coffee, Vodafone and The Carphone Warehouse and, until recently, Pret. The top floor has also been occupied by an Armed Forces Careers Office (AFCO), staffed by personnel from all three services of the British Armed Forces. The corner is still remembered by many Sheffielders above 30 years of age as the place to arrange to meet one's date. A plaque put up by the Rotary Club now marks the spot and ensures its local history is not forgotten. A song and album by Sheffield singer Richard Hawley were named after the place.

The National Videogame Museum is located in Sheffield, England and exhibits contemporary and historic video games.

Kings Tower is an approved skyscraper that will be located on Castle Square at the junction of High Street and Angel Street in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. With a planned height of 120 m (390 ft) once completed, Kings Tower will overtake Code Sheffield (once that is completed) as the tallest building in Sheffield and in Yorkshire. Plans for the tower were submitted by architects Hodder + Partners in September 2020, calling initially for a 39-storey tower. Planning permission was granted in December 2020, and construction is planned to complete in 2023. Amended plans were submitted in late 2022, adding a 40th floor to the project. Kings Tower will be located in the Castlegate area of Sheffield City Centre, on a site bounded by High Street to the south, Angel Street to the west, King Street to the north and the EasyHotel building on Haymarket to the east. The area has undergone a wider redevelopment in the late 2010s and early 2020s as part of the Castlegate Grey to Green Scheme and the Castle Market redevelopment. The site is served by Castle Square tram stop on the Sheffield Supertram network.
