Vénissieux (French pronunciation: [venisjø] (listen); Arpitan: Veniciô or Vènissiœx in the Lyonnais dialect) is a commune in the Metropolis of Lyon in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in eastern France.

Vénissieux station (French: Gare de Vénissieux) is a railway station in the town Vénissieux, a suburb of Lyon, Lyon Metropolis, France. Opened on 1 July 1858, it is served by the SNCF's TER Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. The station is served by regional trains to Lyon, Bourgoin-Jallieu and Saint-André-le-Gaz.

The Canton of Vénissieux-Sud is a French former administrative division. It was disbanded at the creation of the Metropolis of Lyon in January 2015. It was located in the arrondissement of Lyon, in the Rhône département (Rhône-Alpes région). It had 31,420 inhabitants in 2012. It comprised part of the commune of Vénissieux.

It was located in the arrondissement of Lyon, in the Rhône département (Rhône-Alpes région). It had 29,763 inhabitants in 2012. It comprised part of the commune of Vénissieux.

Matmut Stadium is a rugby union stadium located in Vénissieux, Lyon, France with a capacity of 11,805, with slightly over 10,000 of those seated. It was the home stadium of Lyon OU and replaced Stade Vuillermet. It opened on 19 November 2011, with a European Challenge Cup game against RC Toulon. It was built in just three months after the club's promotion from the Pro D2 to the Top 14.

It is accessible by Lyon Metro Line D at Parilly station, by line T2 of the tramway at Parilly Université–Hippodrome station, and by bus 39.

Saint-Fons (French pronunciation: ​[sɛ̃ fɔ̃]; Arpitan: Cent-Fonts) is a commune in the Metropolis of Lyon in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in eastern France. It was created in 1888 from part of the commune of Vénissieux.

Feyzin (French pronunciation: ​[fɛzɛ̃]) is a commune in the Metropolis of Lyon in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in eastern France.

The Feyzin disaster occurred in a refinery near the town of Feyzin, 10 kilometres (6 miles) south of Lyon, France, on 4 January 1966. An LPG spill occurred when an operator was draining water from a 1,200m³ pressurised propane tank. The resultant cloud of propane vapour spread, until it was ignited by a car on an adjoining road. The pool of propane in the bund caused the storage tank to be engulfed in flames, which produced a Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapour Explosion (BLEVE) when the tank ruptured. This resulted in a fireball which killed and injured firemen and spectators. Flying missiles broke the legs of an adjacent sphere which later BLEVE'd. Three further spheres toppled due to the collapse of support legs which were not adequately fire protected. These vessels ruptured but did not explode. A number of petrol and crude oil tanks also caught fire. The conflagration took 48 hours to bring under control. This incident resulted in the deaths of 18 people, the injury of 81 and extensive damage to the site.
